Im looking for the "Recovery Disk" creation... ic ant find on my Y500 OKR...

Only got 2 options:
1) Recover to initial state
2) Recover from user defined backup

*sigh*

I want a recovery disk creation... coz plan to clean up my HDD and make my own partitions.

btw, recovery option i tried requires 165GB space... O.O

I think i should have do the recovery before using this laptop... now its so annoying...

btw, how to find my serial key? i already upgrade to Win8 Pro...

When i bought the Y480 (5934-7549) freedos version, i was told that it comes with 2 years warranty but when i check warranty lookup status at lenovo website, it only stated 1 year warranty.

Then i went to warranty extend at (http://support.lenovo.com/templatedata/Web%20Content/JSP/warrantyLookup.jsp#) but still only getting 1 year. Any1 with any idea how to extend it?

Contact LENOVO.

Check this post:
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=56812258

You need this:
1) Scan your receipt of purchase (must have your laptop Serial No in it)
2) If receipt doesnt include S/N, then take a snapshot of your laptop box with the info of the S/N and etc.
3) Attach both the above in an email and send to LENOVO (Check link post).

Hope it helps.

hmm not much info on the fhd screen. any comparison or opinion to your previous laptop or display?

tks

Are u referring to the yellowish in the FHD screen?

I have 2 more laptops and some very WHITE some a little YELLOWISH... even if its LED!

You can do the screen calibration yourself.
So far i found out LG parts for Laptop gives the little yellowish in white background.

Other brands give super WHITE background.

Yupe. But the UI changed, still trying to get used to it.
*
after a week... u gonna love it... coz when i switch back to 7 i found its slower.
boot time and responses in 8 is better.

Other than that, i think the apps screen aka start screen is helpful when u pin ur mostly used applications on it and customize the category. U can keep ur desktop clean from shorcuts and etc. rclxms.gif

Finally, got my SSD but cant install fresh new copy of Win 8 Pro... due to the "Smartness" of LENOVO deciding to embed the product key in BIOS.

Tried many ways and finally... i just installed Win 7 Pro 64Bit. Doing some updates and etc. Will post up some benchmarking scores and etc.

the Win 8 product key will only valid when a active Win 7 copy installed in ur SSD

Added on January 6, 2013, 1:13 amNot the Lenovo problem...lol
the Win 8 Pro pruduct key just like upgrade key with reformat enabled function
*
Yea, good for reformat, but must use Win8 SLV oni... else other Win8 cant install coz i get message: "This product key is not supported" and then the boot restarts... so cant enter the setup menu... Oni seven can install through boot by using "Legacy" settings in BIOS.

The embedded product key is annoying... at least they should allow other version of Win8 to be bootable.

Hmm, coz Y480 is cheaper... Initially I targeted Y500, I like the design too (especially the irresistible red backlit keyboard)... but then I realized that I actually don't need sli and also heard that sli support problem... Then I just choose 1k+ cheaper version, Y480, and then I can use the money to buy a tablet. (2 is better than 1~ rclxms.gif )

SLI dont have prob if u can set it properly (update drivers, create SLI profiles, edit PhysX settings).
No sluttering (occurs for less than 30fps with VSYNC turned on). If lazy to play with settings and etc, get single card version. Else, SLI is definetly better! flex.gif

does 1366x768 vs 1920x1080 bring much different?
*
I hve both standard HD and FULL HD version. The task bar n etc stil the same size, just that pixel density is higher in FULLHD, but for web browsing, definetly its smaller, coz web pages has fixed pixel size, so it wil be small in FullHD screen 15". Solution is simple, set 125% zoom as standard in browsers, It looks readable n nice.

I have dual monitor setup... left is Samsung XL2370 and right my Lappy screen. Honestly, after using 15" inch FullHD and seeing 23" FullHD... i think 15" nicer, and the 23" looks like 1024X768... LOL

the Y500 FullHD screen is nicer, color and etc is better. For movies, its definetly awesome. But i like my 23" for photo editing, coz color calibration is closest to real colors (prints). The glossy of the Y500 gives a deeper black n color contrast.

Hi anyone with a Y500 can you share your experience of gaming with it ? And your specs and price pls ? Thanks smile.gif
*
Gaming is awesome! No prob running at FullHD.
For FarCry3, need to do settings and wait for Nvidia SLI profile. Or can create own (refer google serch).
Price, its RM3799 (i bought). but can get cheaper in LowYat.
I spent up to RM4.3K in total to get the best performance.
I added 120GB SSD, changed to 8GB Corsair Vengeance (9.9.9.9.24) with 1600MHz. Upgraded cooling system.
Worth it.

Its fast and reliable.
The specs are as below:

i7 3630QM 3.2GHz (turbo boost).
8GB DDR3 High performance RAM.
120GB Intel 330SSD
2 X 2GB Nvidia GT650 DDR5 (SLI)
1920X1080 LED Screen.
Others are standard hardwares, 2 X USB 3.0 and 1 X USB 2.0 with (Always On feature).

Powered separately mean not from laptop but external power source?

And wanna ask if anyone did format their Y580 500GB HDD? Just realized that the drive got quite a number of small partition here and there, any reason for that and is it safe to clear all of the partition?

And Cobby, in case you missed out on this...
*
Awesome... rclxms.gif

But i wont run dual boot for now, my SSD is small and i dont have extra HDD slot. Since SLI using it.
Might wait for mSATA and change the SSD in future. Kinda need the storage on the go. *sigh*

QUOTE(maggot05 @ Jan 15 2013, 01:39 PM)
man now im so confused. y580 vs y500 vs y400

I guess the first main question would be GTX660M vs GT650M and I really dont understand all the jargon on the comparison sites. I guess in the real world, while actually playing games, does it make a somewhat significant difference?

thenext would definately be that I dont understand what this whole ultrabay thing does. from my understanding basically its a slot where you can replace the the DVD drive with a harddisk and case or another graphic card and case. I guess that would be useful if playing super high demanding games. but otherwise its useless. the reason this is confusing for me is that I dont play too many games. im not a gamer. but when I do play accidentally start of playing something, the whole world shuts down for like a week. last time I did that was 2 years ago. ive been on rehab ever since.

3rdly now a lot of sellers dont have the y580. and y500 is quite expensive i believe. does the price drop if I dont buy a nother graphics card and go for a simple DVD drive instead? the y480 is around the same price as the y580 non blu-ray. but some sellers say its 14 inch and some say its 15.6. im confused. also is it 1080p full HD? cuz im not sure.

other than these which is a better machine in terms of looks, build quality and structure and cooling etc ? I really have no idea about all this.

hoping to get some real world answers that a semi-nerd-semi-noob can understand
*
I would recommend Y500 if u game alot. and Y400 for casual gaming and portability.
