Also , comment on 2012 Physics Waves question : There was one question where the answer is way off the actual answer .
which paper ?

should i stop my biology tuition ?
i dont like it plus it's quite far
in form 4 without tuition i can get good marks

it's all depended on what you gain from the tuition. if it is not worth it, better just study by yourself.

actually students no need teachers. as long as they have books, they could study the books and score straight A+ in SPM. Simple smile.gif

But if there's a good teacher , the process will be much smoother and pleasant . smile.gif Some students require teachers to teach concepts they cannot comprehend , like Physics , Maths . Especially Maths , you cannot just read the book and score . There are also things to consider like answering techniques , experiments conducted in lab , etc .

well said smile.gif

seriously ... many students still believe to get 'something special' from the public seminar.

all i want to say, the seminars should be free if it is done for public.

if you have a good teacher/ tutor, you will know the right techniques to answer the questions. there is not need to attend such seminars anymore.

of course, is up to students. if you have time and money, why not ?

no input, no output. below than 10 marks is really a TERRIBLE result, you should be serious to your study.

concentrate to your study. be more serious in study, you will definitely get a pass.

QUOTE(maximR @ Mar 23 2013, 10:06 PM)
Guys , why does a high resistance nichrome wire supply more heat and brightness ?

From which equation does this concept come from ?
*
High resistance nichrome in fact produces less heat and brightness because the higher the resistance, the less the electrical current could flow through. However, nichrome is chosen because of its high melting point.

When referring to heat/ brightness, we will check its power but not resistance. The greater the power, the more heat is released.

QUOTE(maximR @ Mar 25 2013, 12:47 PM)
Yes , that's the 2012 Physics question . My tutor reiterated the same thing , nichrome wire has higher melting point so it will not melt easily . But in the past year book , it's stated that it has high resistance without talking about anything else . Now I doubt the reliability of the answers in the Physics past year book . It is of the same league with the Chemistry book , both have terrible answers . Others are really good .

Then why do you need a smaller diameter of wire ? If resistance increases , less heat is produced . So what's up here ?

2009 question . Tungsten lamp . Care to share the full answers here ?

Higher resistance , higher power . Does this come from P = (I^2)® ?  but P = V^2/R contradicts this . Higher resistance , lower power .
*
i get your meaning. will get back to you tonight with better explanation.

for physics, there are more than one possible answers and it all depends on how you explain it.

Heating element must have high resistance, both Nichrome and Tungsten are metals with high resistance, therefore there are used as heating elements in blow dryer, filament light bulb and even toaster.

Both of course have higher melting point compared to other metals, making them better metals to be used as heating elements.

As to why we choose higher resistance metal, the concept is Electrical Energy is converted to Heat Energy when current flows through a wire as power/ energy loss. Recall the formula P = I^2R, so the higher the resistance the more power/energy loss to become heat.   cool2.gif

well explanation.

before going to sleep ... this is some additions from me to make the whole explanation complete.

like what mentioned by maximR, P is directly proportional to R and also inversely proportional to R, this cause confusion.

there are series and parallel circuits.

In series circuit, current is constant, thus P is directly proportional to R. P=(I^2)R

In parallel circuit, voltage is constant, thus P is inversely proportional to R. P=(V^2)/R

Most ratings for electrical appliances are in power and voltage because they are connected in parallel (constant voltage)

From the formula, P=(V^2)/R , we get R=(V^2)/P which means the higher the power the lower the resistance.

Conclusion is, to get greater power (more heat/ light), resistance must be low. tongue.gif

Polysaccharides is the polymer formed by condensation of glucose monomer.
Actually I still don't understand why they need to separate disaccharides and polysaccharides. Does it mean polysaccharides is a complex form of disaccharides?
*
di means two.

poly is more than two .. usually more than 10 or ever 100 of monomers , link together.

all polymers are non-reducing sugars , same as sucrose

I wonder how many times can an enzyme be reused because it won't be destroy after forming substrate complex.
For Phys:
I still cannot differentiate between real image and virtual image. Can someone explain?
*
I think, the lifespan of an enzyme depends on its type and function. Different enzyme will have different lifespan.

===

Just look at the position of the image to justify real or virtual.

For mirror, real image is outside the mirror while virtual image is inside the mirror.

For lens, real image is opposite side to the object while virtual image is same side to the object.
