Use the right hand grip rule to determine the polarity of the solenoid . Current points downwards , so your fingers must point downwards . Your thumb faces the right hand side , so P is north . Due to Lenz's Law , X should also be north , since the direction of induced current is always such that its magnetic field opposes the original change of magnetic flux .

Recall that e.m.f and subsequently , induced current is generated in the soft iron core when a changing magnetic flux is applied when the solenoid is switched on .

I think I didn't mention about soft iron core inducing a current in the solenoid .

Wow, your essays, especially the Bahagian B was amazing.   I would post mine, but my handwriting is urgh   Well, I'm sure we all suffer from spelling errors. Heck, I always repeat a sentence at least once in my exams it seems. I mentioned "jika masalah ini dibiarkan berterusan" twice in succession. I guess I'll have to write faster and do a quick run through my essay before the time is up.

Anyways, this question came up during my trials in Sejarah P1 :

Pretty well , perhaps ? Constant preparation for Sejarah though . Nearly done with Biology, which is a relief , now all I have to do for the science subjects are the experiments . Need to practice more for A.M P2 , and get my butt off to read E.A as time will be running out . We'll have Negeri Sembilan Gerak Gempur next week . Ughhh . Not sure what to feel . On one hand I feel that it'll be a good practice , on another , I want to spend these weeks with my friends --- it'll be the last with them , in school .

By the way , sorry for not replying to your queries ; do you mind posting them here if you could ? After the trials results were announced , I thought I would be free for a while , but no , I had to print trial papers , share mine with friends from other schools and deal with teachers about a few things .

I see . Don't you check your answers , especially for Add Maths 2 ? I find myself making errors under exam conditions , so it's very important that I carefully check each question after answering .
