QUOTE(yinchet @ Apr 15 2013, 10:14 PM) Tactnition Anti-Drone Shotgun Rounds Depleted Uranium (DU) would make for an great shotgun load. DU is not terribly toxic (to handle) and it has a very long half life that is at least hundreds of millions of years (the longer the half life, the lower the rate of dangerous ionizing radiation released) and the alpha particles it emits would not be able to penetrate the plastic shell of a shotgun round. DU is 68% denser than lead. A #1-sized shot would be roughly the same weight as a 000-sized lead shot. This would give super penetration, increased range and increased hit rate because many more shot could be squeezed into the shell. It would cut through heavy clothing and maybe even body amour like a hot knife through butter. The downside of DU is that eating or inhaling it can have nasty effects. The same alpha particles that cannot even penetrate your clothing wreck havoc on your DNA when inside your body. This combined with the over penetration of soft-skinned animals mean it would make a poor hunting round. Its application would be limited to self-defense and military applications. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2013/04...shotgun-rounds/summon empire23 what do you think of these anti-air shotgun rounds? I think LAMS - Laser Anti-Missile System - will be the next gen using a Small Pulse Laser, instead of ammunition dependent standard system. As its heat build-up is high, the platform vehicle must carry enough heat sinks or cooling system to counter the higher output the LAMS produces

Artificial intelligence to develop semi-autonomous or even fully autonomous drones for certain mission will be the next thing in UAV development. In other words drones will become droids.

Now the Israeli is pretty much ahead in the drone game. They already have a drone the size of a Boeing 737 and can fly as far as Iran. It is called the Heron TP or the IAI Eitan a medium altitude long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle. It has a wingspan of 86 feet and could carry 2,200lb (1,000kg) in payloads. This is the fella

QUOTE(yinchet @ Apr 15 2013, 11:14 PM) small platform for Laser system still have long road to go. UAV certainly on MAF maps to develops. Currently we need to upgrade our datalink systems in order to have full capability of the UAV. X-band sat is currently on priority list. x-band sat very expensive one

QUOTE(yinchet @ Apr 16 2013, 12:12 AM) definitely they need UAV to communicate with the base, sending those data, controlling the UAV and sending the command. which is y I said we need to upgrade our datalink network before having such level of UAV. when talking about data link issue...what u r referring is to develop our own UAV and not off the shelf procurement ?

AgustaWestland Unveils the AW169 AAS AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, has officially unveiled the latest generation AW169 AAS military helicopter during a dedicated ceremony held at the Army Aviation Association of America Annual Professional Forum and Exposition in Fort Worth, Texas (April 10th-13th). You can read the rest of the story at AgustaWestland website herehttp://www.agustawestland.com/news/agustaw...veils-aw169-aasNow…this thing is developed in order to compete in the Armed Aerial Scout program which is the planned replacement for the OH-58 Kiowa for Armed Reconnaissance missions…so it is the AAS variant of the commercial AW169. This is not a reworked super-Lynx (that's the AW159) but a new bird Other contenders are: Boeing AH-6 EADS AAS-72X Bell OH-58 Block II Sikorsky S-97 Raider MD Helicopters MD 540F But now there is this sequestration and budget cutting thing…so the program faces uncertainty or they will have to trim down to fit within the Army's affordability band.

QUOTE(yinchet @ Apr 16 2013, 12:31 AM) datalink is 1 issue that need to be solves. both are separate thing but highly correlated either of the shelf or in house. we need to have good datalink capacity in order to support higher tier UAV tech development. I copy u there.....UAVs subsystem can be very roughly divided into four obvious pieces: the aircraft avionics, mission payload, the ground station and data link.

QUOTE(Dreamhunter @ Apr 16 2013, 09:33 AM) Our Nyamuk is already well in flight, isn't it? Up, up and away. I have confidence with our boyz...I think they r into this Future Soldier scene...cuma...don't be so in a hurry like one of our neighbour...want 2 do everything fast n commit expensive failures...the thing with drone is to develop it into at least a semi-autonomous system....it is like the radio control thing la...like yinchet mention...the data link....so must make it more intelligent.....instead of hands-on remote control drones it will have to become more automated and eventually becoming semi-autonomous...and be able to identify enemy targets of opportunity and make tactical decisions through artificial intelligence...so drones will become airdroids....Drones will also get bigger – large winged drones or airships could fly around militarily contested zone for days at a time performing wide area airborne surveillance (WAAS). QUOTE(cks2k2 @ Apr 16 2013, 10:06 AM) the israelis are pioneers in UAV and they are struggling to get automated drones running reliably. ya...they crash the Heron TP once...they need long distance drones...their theatre can be like in Iran...remember last time when they bomb Iraqi nuclear facilty...it was a Mossad project...they manage to recruit Iraqi asset in France...so was able to identify target...their jet first have to fly behind a commercial aircraft...so enemy radar couldn't detect their approach...mid air refuel because they went back the long way...thru Syria I think....not really sure

Android phones helping the NYPD fight crime
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has secretly equipped its officers with a new weapon to help them fight crime. Roughly 400 Android smartphones have been distributed to officers since last summer as part of a pilot program taking place in New York City, The New York Times reported. The phones are unable to make or receive calls and instead use a data connection to gain access to an individual’s arrest files. An application on the device can look up a person’s criminal history, verify his or her identity with a police photograph and even display information from the Department of Motor Vehicles. And, by typing in an address into the application, an officer will be able to see the names of every person residing at that address.
