Udinese are out regardless, probably won't field a strong team. A win or draw with YB needed to draw or lose and we are through.

Yup. And he was trying to confuse Udinese with 2 Reinas. tongue.gif
He should have put in 2 Joes as well. The Italians would have a hard time recognising the name. LOL biggrin.gif

By the time they prepare the strategy to tackle Joe Cole, they will realise that it is Joe Allen that is playing.
They would probably have a hard time trying to google who the other Reina is? LOL biggrin.gif

Who says Udinese are out? If we lose we are out. Europa League counts head-to-head, not goal difference. If we draw we need YB to draw/lose.

Edited: I stand corrected. Uninese are out...but they still can spoil our chances, nevertheless.

Looks increasingly likely that Pepe will leave, and we'll sign Butland of Zieler. Also, Sturridge and Ince looks like they're heading to Anfield. The Daily Mail is a pretty credible source.

In before "English players again???" whines. laugh.gif

Regarding Reina, while he has yet to rediscover the form he had 2 seasons ago, I still think he's a class goalkeeper - decent shotstopper. good reactions and most of all, excellent footwork & distribution. Brad Jones has held his own when he came on but he's not going to replace Reina any time soon. Personally, I would prefer if we got a new reserve goalkeeper and give Reina another season to prove himself. Not sure anybody wants to be a 'reserve goalkeeper' though.

rodgers' has gone mad.
according to that article, he seems to intend to play both ince and sturridge on either side of suarez...
and reina? if that article is anything to go by...then we'll be doing a part trade of reina for walcott...imo better sterling than reina.
and all that still wont solve our defensive issues of lack of cover for both CBs and LB.

For the past 2 seasons, Reina was not performing like he used to. Maybe this because lack of challenge for his place. For me, he still got a couple of good years ahead of him. Jones still shaky and still not convince that he could be better than Reina. I wish BR could get a decent no 2 keeper rotate them like what whiskey nose did with De Gea and Lidergaard. Though, I really think we should sort the more important problem that is the goal scoring issues first rather that the goalie situation.

And for Ince, we release him for free and want to sign him up for 6 million. What a great deal of business that is..

Looks very likely that Sterling will leave now, especially since he's been reported to have fallen out with Rodger's in the Daily Mail.

In terms of defenders, we currently have the following players who are able to play in the designated positions :-

Martin Skrtel - CB
Sebastian Coates - CB
Jamie Carragher - CB/RB
Daniel Agger - CB/LB
Martin Kelly - CB/RB
Glen Johnson - RB/LB
Andre Wisdom - RB
Jose Enrique - LB/LW
Jon Flanagan - RB
Jack Robinson - LB
Danny Wilson - CB/LB (on loan at Bristol City)

If we do sign anyone, it will be to replace any one of these players. Carra's best days are behind him to perhaps we are looking at a CB but given that Agger and Skrtel are first team regulars with Coates waiting in the wings, we're possibly looking at a young lad for the future.

I do think we need an established LB with Enrique looking fragile defensively. Jack Robinson still has time to develop and Danny Wilson hasn't impressed. Glen Johnson has done a pretty decent job there though.

Our RB is pretty much sorted.

but of cos when injury happens...its usually Agger, and theres no one really dependable to cover him...while Skrtel can sometimes look lost playing the LCB with Carra on the other side...or would you rather see a Coates / Skrtel partnership happen? tongue.gif

I thought we had signed a pretty decent no.2 in Doni but after having taking a hiatus from the game due to "personal reasons", he hasn't even been able to trump Brad Jones.

I agree that Reina has looked shaky and worse still, he doesn't look happy. He is now into his 30's and I reckon he's looking to win some trophies and it doesn't look like we'll be doing that anytime soon.

Can't let sentiment get in the way of making a smart decision here. Arsenal offered $10 million a couple of years back and rebuffed the offer is memory serves me. Let's just see what kind of offer is laid on the table should the Walcott deal progress. I'm not adversed to signing a good young keeper with games under his belt like Butland or Zieler. Both have been capped internationally.

True but we do need to get rid of a defender to get a defender so we don't go over the squad size limit. Question is, who goes?

trophies, reina to arsenal, trophies? of late...arsenal..

sorry, i think the die hard gunners fans too are smashing their heads why ferbegas, VP & several others jumped in favour (and won) trophies.

i know reina is not in his 20s, sometimes goal keeper get better in age.

the awful truth we lfc fans need to realise we ain't gonna win things (so soon), for whatever reasons we just havent a squad or have huge gaps in the striking department.

in a way torres, raul meireles, benayoun were our fabregas, robin van persie sad.gif

thats reality. we are pining for the future, long term with all the likes of younger squad. in that we hope for the future

Uh? We are still the undisputed Champion of Carling Cup. tongue.gif

Nearing to the transfer window, it is normal for newspaper to create sensational stories.

Daily Mail is also not all the time accurate. If I am not mistaken, they were the one that said Torres went to Chelsea with a pay cut. doh.gif

Far as I know, Arsenal were the only ones who put in a bid for him the last time round. If he subnits a transfer request, I'm pretty sure they'll be other takers.

Here is an interesting article with some stats (http://www.talksport.co.uk/magazine/features/121205/why-pepe-reinas-decline-may-be-liverpools-fault-and-arsenals-gain-186869).

It suggests that Pepe's decline in form has to do with us not having solid defensive players in front of him. Is this indicative of the fact that the Agger-Skrtel partnership isn't as solid as some may think? Do we really miss Lucas that much? Is it because Rodgers and Kenny before him are more adventurous and attack minded?

Pepe made the most number of saves in the 09/10 season which was Rafa's last season in charge. This was also the season we sold Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid and brough in Lucas Leiva who had to fill the gap left behind by the Spaniard.
