Is it possible to get a PhD in less than 3 years? As far as I know this Head of School of KDU has a Master degree in Fine Arts without doing a Bachelor degree. Maybe he's a genius for such achievement. I'm interested to go have a look although I'm staying quite far in Nilai. Anyone know how long (min years) would it take to do a PhD in a local institution?

But don't you think everyone has an expertise in something? Besides the economy is built up by various kind of jobs - an overflow of doctors will cause many of them to be jobless for example.

I just want to know what are the average years people take to complete a doctorate programme (full research that is). It doesn't matter the discipline. And is 2-3 years considered impossible?

what about stone masons? do you think they will grant them Phd's??what about carpenters?
the literal term for 'doctor' is overused around the world.

like this joker...Dr Benny Lim. just because he studied a Phd in drama, does that give you the right to put Dr in front of your name?i have a friend who is a dentist, finished his Phd 2 years back...even on his business card he doesn't put Dr. in front of his name. why? his reason is that he is a dentist, a person who fixes teeth; not someone who cures lives...

i can see it now...' Is there a Doctor in the house'?my son has gone into an anaphylactic shock'

yes mdm, i am a doctor...but im a doctor of drama...i cant help u here...

doctorate programmes differ from country to country...and from course to course...

2-3 years is plausible depends on what u are taking and where...

Sometimes, a Master of Arts also includes the degree. Usually it is a four-year course. So it is not a direct jump to master.

The normal duration for a phd is 3 years. That's for full time.

Yes, there are cases of students completing their PhDs less than three years. This is nothing new.

The norm is that students take between three to four years to finish it.

If it is a legitimate doctorate then it's his choice to use Dr. After all that's more fair than those real jokers who use fake titles or honorary doctorates from dodgy schools.

If I were a dentist I would probably use Dr if only to let others know I am a dentist (in the right context, like a dental practice) - it's just a practical way to indicate you are a qualified practitioner of dentistry, a professional. When the context is right then dentists won't be confused with physicians. Since he has a PhD but is also a dentist, then maybe Dr won't be needed as he puts his qualifications after his name. However it is his choice, like it is Benny Lim's.

How does the feedback you received from this forum, has something to do with your interest in pursuing a postgraduate degree?

If I completed my EngD studies in 2 years & 180 days, would it have a significant impact on your interest?

Now, if If I had told you that it's a conversion from Master to EngD, are you thinking too big, or are you thinking too fast?

How will you feel until you take that first step in pursuing a postgraduate degree?

It is possible, and I am live example (don't mean to brag) laugh.gif

Doing phD on Seaweed Biotechnology.
Although a lot of factors affect the possibility of finishing phD in 3 years, particularly the choice of supervisors, the field and also one's character, determination and abilities; it is still possible to achieve.

Yes it is not fair actually if make comparison between courses. Example my Master thesis in computer science is so hard compared to my friend that take master in mass comm, saw their thesis is so easy as 1 2 3. But they also proud graduated with master even though with easy courses

True, but as long as the time taken to graduate is fast within that particular course, then it is considered as very impressive already nod.gif
I guess sometimes luck also have a role to play in this kind of stuffs~

I went to the talk.

In the end he didn't mention about how he completed his PhD in the shortest time. He said he chose to send his proposal to the least well known university which was not strong in research so that his chance for getting selected as a PhD candidate was higher. He even short listed Unimas as his choice. There you go... wasted my time there...

depends on your supervisor and the project budget.

if your supervisor very pro, have deep knowledge about the project, can guide you to the right direction
half effort, twice the results.
compared to blur supervisor duno anything, you have to trial and error for everything,
twice the effort, half the results, in d end more time wasted

depends on project budget,
got money, can buy more better equipment, no need go here and there to borrow, or build your own one.
got money can buy good software, get job done faster.

so ya, possible to finish in 2-3 years if got knowledgeable & rich (as in project funds) supervisor that is willing to guide you

Do doctorate students in strategic management study the problems and issues facing general managers who must formulate and implement strategies for organizations in uncertain and ambiguous environments?

What do you do after completing your PhD in the National University of Singapore?
