Finally got my bike assembled and cleaned up again after not living in condos any more after 2 years and staying in a more cycle friendly neighbourhood (Subang before , now Desa Park) , looking forward to getting out on it soon again ! Need some exercise again after so long blush.gif

Just got back in from doing some rounds around DPC, 26km in an hour or so. Looking to make this a daily thing (ideally, twice a day!) been too long without exercise.

I'm a T1 diabetic , interesting to see how this will affect insulin need - should reduce it quite a lot!

i've heard some guys apparently no longer diabetic after consistently working out on their bikes!
*
Type 2 possibly, Type 1 doesn't disappear - it's not caused by unhealthy lifestyle, just bad luck and need to inject (or pump) insulin forever blush.gif

When I was diagnosed 4-5 years ago I was cycling every single day to and from work (around 15km per day) !

actually for diabetic people in sports... they just have to know how to handle their own conditions... like when to call it stops and when to continue...

the only real danger is hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia when you engage in sporting activities... which is why it is important to try and measure you blood sugar level before and after each session in the begining to know how your body reacts to sporting activities...

once you sense any signs that you want to faint, cold sweats, palpitations... it's time to stop and take a rest as you might be suffering from low blood sugar...

there might be quite a lot of diabetic riders out there.. but you won't know until they tell you about it...
isn't the slr a pure carbon shell only??? no comfort on that rite??? i haven't seen a 00 before... what difference is that compared to the carbon railed antares?

QUOTE(butthead @ Dec 17 2012, 09:29 AM)
if you are on diabetic medications.. it might still be possible... but once you are on insulin injections... i believe you are on for life...it's too late

*
Just need to measure sugar levels regularly - exercise increases insulin sensitivity and reduces blood sugar, always have some sweets on hand to top up in case it's going a bit too low / dropping too fast.

FYI, Type 1 diabetics need to start on insulin injections straight away .. and there's no going back after that.

Some Type 2 diabetics that started insulin treatment already and drastically change their lifestyle can reverse their condition as long as they get enough movement and eat healthy.

Just did some more rounds of DPC, around 21km in just under an hour (55 minutes), fair bit slower than last night but the heat / sunshine makes it more difficult blush.gif top speed only 35 vs 39 yesterday rolleyes.gif
Just hope I don't get sunburn icon_question.gif

QUOTE(butthead @ Dec 17 2012, 11:53 AM)

you better try and see pre and post insulin injections on your sessions... so you get a gauge on how your body reacts... but then, i think you are pretty much on a schedule with your injections which should not cause much problems...

you don't need to be riding fast and killing yourself... just enjoy the surroundings... faster means more accident prone and i guess injuries like road rash is not what you diabetics like since blood is harder to clot for you guys and the wound healing takes longer...

not to scare you lar... but better be safe than sorry...

21K under an hour in DPC where there is turns and roundabouts with cars zipping along is pretty much as fast as you can go i guess...
*
I'm quite used to cycling as a diabetic just had a 2 year "break" after moving to Malaysia (was living in UK before, cycled everywhere!) . Less insulin requirement is good too , need to buy less insulin rclxms.gif

Last night was closer to 26km in about an hour - but of course at night there is no heat, and less cars.

Just need to get some padded shorts again, my bum is pretty sore yawn.gif

unless you can teleport to a country near to wiggle offices... don't they charge you the same rate for sending it to here as they will vin_ann?

*
I ordered them to UK and picked them up when I was there biggrin.gif But if you order from Malaysia there shouldn't be any VAT .. that makes 20% difference so shouldn't work out much more at all ...

divide it with roughly the amount of time it took... like 1.5 hours and your average would be around 28kph...

how did you pull 42k out of DPC.. just riding the loop??? not exactly a lot of roads there unless you ventured out into kepong...
*
Yep - just riding the loop smile.gif

I know how to work it out, but I don't remember exact time of the ride before. blush.gif
