What are the "conditions" for opening joint account? Every bank's website I search did not explicitly tell what specific relationship the joint account applicants have to be in order to be able to proceed opening joint account. Is having legal or blood relationship a hidden pre-requisite to open joint account? Today I went to CIMB KLCC to open joint account with my partner (unmarried) and that bugger tell me only married couples, and siblings can open joint account. Didn't know CIMB so righteous in discriminating against money.

That is just CIMB teller trying to impose their own religious / personal beliefs onto you. Challenge them by asking which line in the Terms and Conditions specifically requires joint account holders to be either spouse or siblings only.

In fact, joint account holders may be your parents, colleagues, friends or even neighbours.

Alternatively, just bring your money to a different bank / different branch.

not really, that's the only bank who asked for it. i have affin, ambank, bank islam, hong leong, kfh, maybank, ocbc, public, rhb, uob and sc savings account. none of which asked for it. so ..... it is not really a norm nor requirement by bnm.

Here's the kicker: I didn't even reach the teller, just the fella who asks what you wanna do and issues you a ticket number. Definitely confirms my little Napoleon theory. Knew there was no good reason to decline my business. Maybe it was the holiday that made them extra alim all of a sudden...

Just pissed at my time being wasted, not easy to find time go KLCC on weekends, considering me and my partner are working adults.

I just got an Alliance bank credit card and noticed that their e-FD rates are not too bad. Therefore i am looking to open a savings account but i want something simple, without any debit card. There are 2 in their website, basic account and esaving account.

Is this similar to M2U and Cimb basic account?
