Hi all, I've been lurking in this thread for a little while. I'm pondering to get this as an entry level phone for my kid, and I think spec-wise this beats any Samsung at this price point.

I am quite impressed by the user experiences you guys have written. Will seriously contemplate this.

Just want to share some insight since I'm a technophile in general. The headset problem reported a few pages back is due to the fact that there is only a standard for,uh, "standard" stereo ie 2 conductor (the metal separated by the black strips) 3.5mm connectors. Beyond that, it's up to the manufacturer to do whatever they want to define control signals on the 3rd strip.

I have a Huawei Mediapad and the Huawei 8660 headset does not work on it, but my Samsung headset does.

On custom roms, if CSL has released the Kernel and ROM sources, then modding can begin. Of course, this phone also has to get into the hands of developers. So far there are a couple of Malaysians who develop custom roms for the phones they have. There's a capable fellow by the handle of monx who has a rom for the Galaxy Note 2, and I have seen some of CSL's earlier phones having custom roms on XDA. Those phones were OEM Foxconn.

I read that this is a "non oem" CSL. What does that mean?

BTW:
http://www.s-csl.my/index.php/csl-phones/s...h-mercury-mi501

It does not show GPS/AGPS in the spec sheet. Is GPS confirmed as a feature? You know, the standard mfg disclaimer that specs/price/availability can change anytime....

Thanks all.

Sadly, please remove me from Owner list, due to full refund has been made from the shop.
Alright, just to share some experience through out my Mercury life.

At first, i have doubt buying CSL Brand phone also, but after using it for one week. I totally changed my view. It's a great phone , but due to some technical problems and also family objection, i need to change my phone.

It's the smoothest android phone i'd had been using since Mercury is my 3rd Android phone. At first, i started off With Xperia X8 and follow by Galaxy Ace. While using Mercury, It's very good, no complain but due to the batch of Mercury , i got mine faulty one. The shop willing to give me full refund due to phone faulty. All i can say it's really a good phone if it doesn't have any issues.

I am a happy ex-owner of this phone. I really recommend those who are in tight budget nor non budget user. This phone really delivers great user experience , although it's 512MB. Don't doubt it's capbilities. I don't see any lag while using it after my first master reset. It's only RM650-RM700. With this price range what phone can you get in term of good spec and price? Even RM1K can u get a phone with such great spec, you may could but the "Brand" trademark already eat up 10%-30% of the price.

I never regret buying this phone although it cause me some problems. Quarrel with my family to get this phone in the first place. Although i just used it for 1weeks+ but it's deliver rich and good performance. I would never look at CSL Brand phone because i thought it's a "Cap Ayam brand" but after using Mercury Mi501, i changed my view. Hopefully the up-coming quad core version will be a big successor. One day i'll still go back with this brand.
Good luck and best wishes to all Mercury User and Forumer. Will always be in this thread. Cheers. nod.gif

Dude sorry to hear your story. Appreciate the feedback. If you don't mind, I would like to say why quarrel over an RM700 phone? Unless there's a serious case of brand-consciousness afflicting someone significant...

Hi  Cranky, u know whats the difference between Snapdragon MSM8625 and MSM8225? Both have the same clock speed range. The mercury is using msm8225. Whats the difference in performance in both snapdragons?
