QUOTE hi, I know that you have posted a lot of stuff regarding basic steps of rooting the phone. But with so many links around, I'm not sure where to start. I'm a newbie here. I know totally nothing about flashing phones. The last time I tried to flash my friend's S1 to gingerbread, I totally bricked it. Now I'm quite paranoid about it. Where do I get clear background reading about rooting? After upgrading to JB malaysia version from Stock ICS, my phone started to be a little sluggish. Battery life is normal so far. Only prob is sometimes using Stock browser, it is not responding and I need to kill it in task manager and restart it to make it work again. If you can help me, I really appreciate it. Thanks. take your time read the 1st page, just search root |

QUOTE(firefoxian @ Nov 17 2012, 11:06 AM) was just about to post again in this thread. Well, I did some background reading already. The first thing I need to do is backup everything. But with all the Titanium Backup and Nandroid (Titanium Backup requires rooting if i'm not mistaken), which should I start with first? read thisI read about Rooting. And TS there talk about CF, which is the basic root for beginners? Which instructions should I follow? » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « please advice. Thanks in advance. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 and this http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/06/09/how-to-...-cf-root-video/ *everything is in 1st page, take your time and read if you lazy and don't know what ti means then better don't root |

QUOTE(Kevin_Low @ Nov 17 2012, 11:15 AM) That isn't easy to teach all of it. It doesn't require a great knowledge of it but it require a great understanding on it. I for myself has failed 30+ during recompiling at first but slowly understand how the Android system works. I'm just a newbie though. One thing I'm proud of myself. AOSP ROM project butter never fully working but I fixed the hwcomposer myself. Animation isn't laggy anymore, smooth as nexus. May be world first get aosp project butter working on i9300? o.O, at least you roughly know how to do marme totally don't know at all yet, what job ? me still studying in college, still got a long way to go |

QUOTE(firefoxian @ Nov 17 2012, 11:17 AM) willing to learn and not lazy. just that the content of this thread can be confusing. I did search and read carefully. this thread mixed up with so many other general questions. can't really seem to find the 'flow' of the steps. maybe I'm a slow learner. Sorry for being a noob. from the 1st linkyou see the post 2, which is below link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...363&postcount=2 and read the long instruction at that post that all you want to do is very simple only, don't worry yet, go download samsung kies 1st because you need the usb driver, if not won't working |

btw titanium backup update again
here the new feature What's in this version: • Added the ability to batch restore system apps (not just data). See the new "Exclude system APKs" option. • Added support for Android 4.2 (no multi-user support at the moment). • [PRO] Added new "Exclude system APKs" option to the "app+data update.zip" creation job (enabled by default for safety). • [PRO] Improved "app+data update.zip" creation job to support filtering by platform. • Improved root acquisition for "app+data update.zip" restoration. • Minor improvements. • Updated translations *but me didn't use all of them, same to previous update can make a zip file as making zip file very slow, so decided use back old school method to backup and restore |

QUOTE(firefoxian @ Nov 17 2012, 11:38 AM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « well, not that I want to be spoon-fed. I actually followed this thread for some time already. I only did not ask questions up to now because was busy with exams when I just got my phone. Now that I'm already done with exams, I'm basically free!!! Got one month left of freedom before going to Germany to study engineering. So now I just want to use this opportunity to fully maximise my phone. Thanks for helping. And I know this is a question repeated 9999 times already, but I still need to install KIES and backup anything from my phone? Rooting won't do any harm to my data right? anyway, not really recommend use KIES to backup, last time I also didn't backup straight root away *just learn from each other, all of us also noob before |
