Hello guys...I have several questions here that I hope you could help me clarify.

I got my SC card from the Groupon offer, the RM300 cash back.

1) From my understanding, cash back means they practically just give that RM300 to you to spend. Is it that straightforward?
2) Do we get RM50 government tax deducted immediately? If yes, that means the actual value we're getting is RM250, yes?
3) After getting the RM300 cash back (I heard it'll be fully given after 30 days), can we then cancel it the following month/whenever later without any charge?
4) Since I read that the benefits and privileges under SC cards have decreased, I might not want to keep it for that long. Out of curiosity, if I were to cancel it and when there's another cash back promotion later, will I be eligible to reapply?

But all in all, the burning question for me is...why is the bank being so generous to give this much of cash back? Not just SC, I see other banks are doing it too.
What's the catch? They just want people to sign up and hope that half of them have problems managing their spending and end up being tied to them forever or? unsure.gif

Thanks ahead for your help!

Btw, it seems like SC Visa Platinum doesn't have any rebates on those dining, bills, etc. unlike other banks. Am I right?
If yes, I guess not much reason to keep it after the RM300 cash backs are fully given.

SCB has a different type of offer for dinings. Refer here:

Yeah, I went there tadi. But too many places are not within Penang...so, not much point. And I don't eat out at restaurants much too =)

Btw, Human Nature and all...do you know if banks will kinda blacklist you if you cancel your credit cards after a few months' time or is it better to keep it eventhough you won't be using it? A friend of mine said that canceling within months will make my 'history' bad over time and suggested that I just keep it for a year or so before doing so (and since I'm not using it, just let it be an emergency card, etc.)
The only trouble is having too many cards at a later time when I apply from other banks. Sorry for asking related questions cuz this didn't cross my mind earlier.

Appreciate your inputs.

Let me reply by an example. I cancelled several SCB cards after holding them for several months and I am not worried about being blacklisted by SCB because there are many other banks. It doesn't affect my application for a new card from another bank (and I believe others too) either. As long as I settle all outstanding balance before due date, then I got nothing to worry about.

Thanks, this gives me some confidence in canceling the card, lol..

To be fair, I've called the CS once in consecutive days. First one was rude as hell, the other is as polite and pleasant as other CS.

Nevertheless, agree that scb shud really have stringent quality control of their CS

Made few calls before, so far all the CS officers I got were pretty polite and patient. Maybe it depends on luck biggrin.gif

I saw on their website that they have this offer for supplementary card for existing card holder where you'll get up to RM300 cashbacks.
Initially I was thinking of canceling my card (mine was also signed up during the other cashback promo), but I thought maybe I can sign up for this supplementary card offer and bear with it for another 60 days (that's how long they'll take to credit RM300 to you) before canceling it eventually.

What do you guys think? And has anyone signed up for this?

I applied a supplementary card and I see in the statement that I'm already given RM30 cash back, but after minusing the service tax RM25, the new balance is RM5. So I assume this supp card will have RM5 credit while the balance of the RM270 will be given to the principal after 60 days.

My question is, does all supplementary cards get charged RM25 service tax the first time? That's quite a lot to take away from us, isn't it? And how about the RM50 GST, will they charge us at a later time?

50 on each principal card, 25 on each sup card. Both is charged annually. If you upgrade, it will be charged instantly on your new card.

Ah, so the RM25 is the GST for supp. Okay, I get it now, thanks!

Btw, does anyone know if I actually need to get the supp swiped or is it okay to leave it idle after activation (for the purpose of getting RM270 cashback)?

So I put in a request to terminate my last CC last week and this morning, a staff from PS called me. Her offer, RM50 cashback but need to retain for at least 6 months. I said I am not comfortable with the 6 months term, and she added another 10000 points to sweeten the deal noting that my card anniversary is near. Not really interested with the points, so we settled at RM50 + RM50. Actually I don't know why they still want to retain customers like me who hardly use the card since they screw-up the points system last year, i am not complaining though.
*
Yeah, their points are not worth it, if I'm not mistaken. How did you get RM50+50? RM50 is the cashback and RM50 is the waiver?

The 1st RM50 cashback is their direct offer, came very early in our conversation. The second RM50 came when she offered 10k CP and I pointed out that I am not interested with the points due to the new catalogue. I was ready to cancel and forfeit several thousands CP. She said I can use it to pay the GST or normal transactions.
*
So you end up keeping it for extra RM100? How long are you extending this time before you going to cancel it later?

Saw this new promo: http://www.standardchartered.com.my/promo/...0301-I:10000105

It says apply for both principal and supplementary cards and get up to RM450.
Meaning...it's a lot less now since the cash back is for two cards instead of one each. Anyone going for this? Not applicable to existing card holders though, so I guess since I have one, I can't apply anymore.

Another thing, the RM300 supp card promo is still on. I've applied one supp for my mum earlier, can I get another supp for my dad and will it be approved?

maybe you can apply for different card type like roonie laugh.gif

I don't dare to ask how he does it cuz I think he has explained before but I can't find the info even after browsing so many pages in this thread.
But my guess is, they might just give RM300 cashback for max one supp card only under my principal card.
Anyone has any ideas on how to maximise the RM300 supp card promo, appreciate your response, lol, thanks.

Lol, simple. Just let the PS agent call you and show interest on other cards. Then tell them you want to apply all the 7 cards too
*
Oh no...I just got a random call from PS yesterday, the agent's offering the Translucent card, which of course I said no and hung up. If I had read this earlier, I would have tried it out, lol...

QUOTE(guy3288 @ Jul 13 2013, 04:49 PM)
If i remember correctly during that promorion, the SC website says only one CB given to one new member, doesn t matter how many cards you apply.

So it is a pleasant surprise when i read people got so many CB for upto 7 cards! Std Chartered is really kaya distributing cash out like that.

I tried my luck applying for 2 cards, MC PLat and Visa Plat. Then the CS called and asked if i wanted WMC also got CB - i told him yes, why not. Had i known this i would have told him i wanted all the cards Std Chartered can offer..ha ha.....

Imagine getting RM300 for every card you take, and the card is FOC!!

The funny thing about it is, after you spent off the  RM300, next month you see another  CB RM100 in that account!!

Std Chartered really can surprise you till you get a heart attack!!
Keep it up SC!!

Now go apply for supp cards - every card gives ypu RM100!
*
But you got your CB on principal cards application, yes? This promo is no longer available, only supp card is still on till end of this month.

I have only one type of principal card, so that means I can apply only the same type of supp from what I've read in the forum. And I have already gotten one for my mum, so I don't know what else I can try/do except maybe get extra supp for my other family members (but don't know if they will still give CB somemore or not).
