well, i'm really confused now. i'm currently waiting for my spm results and is wondering about how matriculation works.

you see, i applied for the government matriculation last year... and my counsellor told us that we can go overseas after completing both matriculation and a degree in any malaysian universities but she didn't elaborate much about it.

however, when i consult my friends from other school, they told me that their counsellors said that malaysian government matriculation is only recognised in malaysia. and after the degree, our chances to be accepted in foreign universities are very slim... and that we might only be accepted in indonesia. is this accurate?

marticulation is like speedboat to and island compared using the normal way either using diploma or STPM ticket. matriculation is something like A-level or Pre-U level where you gain faster access to a degree in local Uni compared to STPM where you need to have a good result to enter your preferable course. You need to get certain cgpa in matriculation to entitled to enter it.

as for the recognition of matriculation, I'm not so sure bout it. Maybe feynman could elobrate more. It is better still if you insist wanted to go foreign Uni, an A-Level or which ever is required is much better because they have set a standard requirement in this exam.

matriculation, highly unlikely that you can use it to enter a foreign university. The reason is because of the method of assessment. Unlike A-levels, STPM, Australian and canadian grade 12, matriculation isn't really moderated by a examining body, too many things related to matriculation is in the dark, things like who sets the standards? Who marks the papers? Are there any external observers to ensure that standards are maintained? Matriculation is simply not transparent, if something is not transparent, there sure are some hanky-panky things going on. However, I believe that it can be used as a proof of secondary education for American Universities. Don't take my word for it, call up the university concerned to find out whether they are aware of something called malaysian matriculation and if they do, ask them whether they accept it or not.

Our degrees are recognised, you can use them to pursue masters or doctoral studies at foreign universities.

Matriculation, A-levels, STPM are all pre-u courses.

Hi, i'm a SPM graduate too, just want to ask how much it cost(foundation at UTAR)? Is it 3 years and after that u get a diploma?
*
No, UTAR foundation takes you only one year to complete. Upon completion and if the necessary grades, you will be guaranteed a place at UTAR.

well i'm planning to take up pharmacy. by the way, what's the difference of matriculation in universities like UM and the matriculations in each state? you know, like kolej matrikulasi melaka, kolej matrikulasi negeri sembilan...etc.

and if i plan to do my masters overseas, will take look at my matriculation certificate as well eventhough i've got a degree from a malaysian university?
i've heard many people saying that they might pick a stpm or A levels holder rather than an unknown ( maybe to them) matriculation holder.

Matriculation is useless at that point, what matters most is your bachelors.

Just like admission into your first degreem while your SPM shows that you are a consistent worker, it is not referred to for offers to be made.

Matriculation doesn't guarantee you a place in local university. It's a just speedboat pass.

Speaking about recognition, how about a marticulation from Singaporean polytechnic?

Locally or globally (Malaysia, Australia)? Admission to colleges ...

That is subjective.
It may be possible for IPTS but not for IPTA.

You need to contact the relevant universities for clarifications. Polytechnic diplomas are usually for those intending to enter NUS or NTU.

Sorry but...

Matriculation (KPM) does guarantee you a place in local university as long as you pass the minimum CGPA (2.0 only). But it does not guarantee you to get your highest choice in your UPU application if you have a so-so result.

We're talking about KPM matriculation here... not specific Pre-U matrics like UIA matrics or such.

And it is true that matriculation is only for local universities. But so far, with matriculation result you can also apply for degree courses from other local private/franchise university. But it is also possible for international universities to accept KPM matriculation result.

I know coz I've been there.

Mind to elaborate?

Did you correspond directly with Curtin Perth regarding the recognition of matriculation?

never bothered to.... wasting time  tongue.gif

curtin sarawak and curtin perth... both are just the same because curtin sarawak is also an international campus, not just normal franchise.

you should, they did not indicate any thing about Malaysian matriculation. So it i very likely that it is not recognised.

You should not assume that what applies in Sarawak applies to Perth too, you should be aware of that. Monash Melbourne and Monash Malaysia are different.

my friend did it this way....

he was from matriculation. the 1st semester of 1st year he studied locally.... then the 2nd semester he applied for a transfer to perth....

walla.....

It doesn't mean that they accept matriculation either.

your friend went to Perth with his 1st semester credits, not with his matriculation.

If he went there straight after matricalation, then there is something to talk about.

Whatever the case, it is very unlikely to use matriculation to enter a competitive foreign university.

just to be certain whether matriculation can be used to enroll one into a course in a foreign university.

The findings is that it's possible to use it so long as the institutions are within Malaysia but the same cannot be said for institutions outside Malaysia.
