Hey guys,
Any feedback on Orient's 40N51 movement? Looking to purchase the classic orient star, just wanted to see if you guys have any experience with this movement. Thanks |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Jan 14 2013, 11:47 AM) the orient star movement is quite decent, almost on par with seiko 6R15. Got my local watch shop to preorder one for me.but the one in the international classic line is 40N52, and really go no idea what the difference is...dunno how to tell also cos there is no model stamp on the movement visible thru the caseback. But i'm not sure whether it's the intl model or the JDM. Are there any difference in price for JDM? Any idea of the retail price of the intl version of the classic orient? |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Jan 15 2013, 02:42 AM) AFAIK no diff, just that japan has some special models like the blue dial retrograde which I would like to get. The shop i went to had no stock, so i had to get him to order for me.Why preorder? Its available already around 1.7k before discount. I also noticed that the classic and the open heart seems to be priced the same here although the Japan website seems to show a 8-10k yen difference. Not sure whether they're selling the classic expensive or the open heart cheaper. |

QUOTE(fixgd @ Jan 15 2013, 12:24 PM) wow i compare ur orient and the one in the ebay link above. so much price diff. means the ebay is fake? QUOTE(Everdying @ Jan 15 2013, 05:01 PM) I would not know whether it's fake or not, but there seems to be positive comments earlier about their reliability. The one you see in the ebay link are Orient watches. The one Everdying and I were talking about is Orient Star. That's the reason of the price difference. QUOTE(Everdying @ Jan 15 2013, 07:01 PM) oh, looks like he thinks Orient are ultra-cheap watches. Love the blue dial anyway, i do have an orient star which i've posted before. ![]() i would assume the basic movement are all similar amongst all the orient stars. and the diff movement numbers come from the diff complications like in their retrograde or gmt or when power reserve dials are added in. |

QUOTE(Vryon @ Jan 18 2013, 12:21 PM) Hi Sifu, any idea where can i get leather watch band in Penang or Malaysia sites that i could buy online ? In Penang, go browse around at komtar's watch shops. Along Penang road as well. You'll need to ask them as most will not have them on display. Should be able to find plain looking straps easily. But if you're looking for those with specific brands, it'll be harder. Maybe they can order. Am not sure. Be prepared to sweat coz the weather in Penang now is terrible. |

QUOTE(Vryon @ Jan 18 2013, 08:48 PM) Hmm, roughly how much for a leather strap ? Well i think i should change to nato strap when cycling since leather got sweat will soak and stinks Not really sure, but the cheaper ones prolly 40+ i guess. For me, i would prefer rubber straps for sports. Or if you're afraid leather will stink, i believe they have those water resistant PU straps. Looks like leather |

QUOTE(theandy95 @ Feb 13 2013, 12:41 AM) Budget and good quality watch. What you pay is what you get la. Mostly quartz. Some solar, not auto. In my opinion, worth buying compared to other fashion brands that are priced almost the same or slightly higher. However, i would not spend anything more than 600 on one |

QUOTE(theandy95 @ Feb 13 2013, 10:38 PM) How does these fashion watches look like? Since Casio is quite cheap, I thought those brands u mentioned would have more respect instead I have no idea what respect you're referring to but let me ask you this question, which brand makes the most famous, reliable, value for money and toughest digital watch? or can you name me one that is better then them in those areas. It depends on your personal opinion bro, and what is important to you. the looks, the brand, the functions, the movement. If 300+ is your budget, Seiko and Orient has some in that bracket as well. |

QUOTE(theandy95 @ Feb 13 2013, 11:59 PM) Well just following what sniperontheroof said about Casio having more 'respect' than fashion watch. I interpreted it in the sense of branded or not...but I actually do not know what fashion watches are. When i mentioned fashion watches, we're talking abt those that sniperontheroof stated. Famous clothing brands that jump onto the watch bandwagons. You are talking about Casio G-shock watches? Anyway I hardly see anyone here talking about Edifice watches, guess it's too cheap for the guys here, or doesn't look nice, and besides, I saw a few ppl saying this line of watches are pretty shit in one of the sales thread...so I thought the general opinion of Edifice watches aren't fantastic. I'm talking about RM200 and below Edifice watches btw Esprit, Levis, Giordano, CK, Guess, PUMA, Nike etc. Casio has been producing watches for a long time, although the digital ones are more famous (yes, G-Shock). I myself started with a Casio Edifice as well. Bought it with my 1st salary, runs till now (6yrs), one battery change so far. With a budget of 200 and below there's actually not much choice for you. Even fashion watches are priced higher. My suggestion to you is save abit, raise your budget to 300+ and you'll have alot of choices to choose from. Auto, Quartz, Chrono. Seiko has it's own thread here If looks is what you're looking for, browse around local watch shops. Don't be afraid of the price. Retail price is always higher, sure got discount one. LOL |

QUOTE(-ck- @ Feb 14 2013, 03:35 PM) Hi all, after reading several posts here I'm keen to own a watch as well but definitely do not have sufficient knowledge for now. Classic/dress style watches for your budget, i believe Orient will have alot of choices for you to select from. http://nickhacko.blogspot.com/2012/08/watc...rsonaility.html According to this blog entry I believe my personality is more towards classic and subtle. I hope all the pros here can recommend me a watch for beginner. My budget is around RM 1K max and I prefer steel straps over leather. Seiko will have more sporty/diver looking ones. Their classic watches are usually above 850. you can have a look at Quartz Tissot too. This post has been edited by twho: Feb 14 2013, 04:46 PM |
