In fact, the whole design looks nothing like the lineart (original lineart, not the 1/100 model lineart) suggested.

And for 2700+ yen?

I have 2 batches of questions:

First, to StormV: About your Crossbone Gundam X-2 model. What's the model brand and was it 1/100? And most importantly, is there an X-1 version?

Second, I just got myself a new model kit that has soft vinyl parts with it. This is officially my first time with this material, so can anyone with experience on models of this material care to elaborate? And here's a pic of the manual, can anyone help clarify what's mentioned in the part 1 and 2?

preliminary finish of dodaiII 1/100 scale model...

was initially planning Bandai's 1/144 scale EX Dodai II in 1/100 scale but along the way I decided to make it more realistic(?) look than the stubby anime look in OVA. Also I extended the middle section bit too much to accommodate most of MG Zeon MS models - so far only tested with Zaku II, Zaku II F2 and Gouf Custom and don't think Dom will fit. tongue.gif
*
Wow yeah, your Gouf is looking real happy with the new toy you made for it tongue.gif . Realistic redesign, close to a real-life version. But I don't think Doms are ever meant to use such flight assistance... uber hovercraft feet, see? Skating's much cooler... laugh.gif

I've only one word for BANDAI.... Cheapskate.
Why spoil an otherwise beautiful model with the horrible old fashioned elbow joints? Those puny polycaps are never going to last, and it'd probably slide out when posing with weapons, esp those heavy rifles...
*
Not only cheapskate, but UGH... what the hell is wrong with the proportions of Bandai models these days? shakehead.gif Is there something wrong with their CAD programs, or do we really need corrective eye surgeries? My older 1/100 F91 looks much more gorgeous than this version. And the face?! Phail. Hope MG fine-tunes this 'masterpiece' before putting it through the production process... dry.gif

And I definitely agree about the inflated cost of the Amatu model, better buy an MG instead; moar satisfaction...

However i think the new MG F91's head is better looking, although it doesn't resemble the original lineart. In fact it looks more like something from CE tongue.gif

Can you post a pic of your 1/100 F91? I've never seen one before, only a 1/144
*
Mmm, about the helmet, I like it too, but I still favour the previous 1/100 F91's face, which accurately follows the anime lineart designs. The one shown in the prototype MG model from the pic you posted makes it look like the Gundam is holding it's breath or something, LOL; what the hell is with the bloated facemask? doh.gif And the MG openface mode reveals even moar yuck redesign. The original face shows a somewhat 'grim expression', whereas the MG prototype version shows a 'smug expression'. Ack! shocking.gif

See the pics of the original lineart of F91 below to see what I mean - the original designs had the nice vertical length of the face, and not the horizontal stretch of the MG prototype face.
user posted imageuser posted image

O'rly? A 1/144 F91? I never knew such model exists, unless it's B-Club's garage kit, ant that was just the F77 G-Cannon. Maybe you'd mistaken the 1/100 for a 1/144; they are small, y'know: post-UC 0093 all MSs are scaled down from the standard 18m head height to the new 15m dimensions, so no surprise there.

It's a wonder Bandai took this long to finally venture into the 15m-tall MS domain. Maybe MG boxes can finally get smaller? (hence cheaper?) tongue.gif

So here's pics of my older 1/100 Gundam F91 as you requested (sorry if some of them are below average quality, my current camera can't take nice macro shots tongue.gif )

I suppose it's a 1/100 then, coz of the small size I thought it was an 1/144 tongue.gif Nice F91, but for 15m MSes I think V2 looks nicer... biggrin.gif Small and sleek with only the beam wings, although the assault buster makes it look bulky.
*
Yep, can't wait for MG to make the awesome V2 Gundam; if they do, hope they can replicate the transformation functions and still manage to maintain good proportions...

Anyway, Oy Yay!! My 3 recently-purchased model kits has finally marks the acquisition of the 180th model kit for my PlaMo collection. These 3 kits are also special because all of them are WAVE kits, and each kit is truly valuable to me, especially the rare 179th and the Uber-Rare 180th. rclxm9.gif thumbup.gif

May I present to all my fellow modellers, the 178th, 179th and the best of the 3, the 180th:-

(dj898 and Guyver, I know the two of you are probably the only ones here who're familiar with FSS, so I bet you guys know what model 179th and 180th really is... tongue.gif brows.gif nod.gif )

Of course, upon reaching the 180th mark, I believe I'll have to take a breather and stop making model purchases for the rest of the year, and concentrate on the kits and projects I'm currently working on. Not to mention after spending around RM600 on these latest 3, I'm pretty much moneyflies.gif , ha ha sweat.gif . So for the next half of 2006, I'm going to concentrate on restocking my savings, and aim for the one purchase I've promised myself upon achieving the 180th model mark: a complete airbrush set ph34r.gif . It's about time to get real serious, I say... biggrin.gif . Soon I can begin learning the art of airbrushing and be as good as dj898 cool.gif . Wish me luck.

Well, kct-86, if this is your first major GunPla, then you should choose the right one, so that it'll be really something memorable. Everyone here still remember their very first GunPla?

If you liked the Zeta series (although the ZetaPlus C1 is actually from Gundam Sentinel, but it's still pretty close) or you have a thing for older, stonger stories with a touch of Macross/TransFormers feature, then the MG ZetaPlus C1 is the one for you. But if you like the stylistic manner of the GS series, and like models with really good articulation and posability, then get the MG Aile Strike Gundam then. It's all up to your major preferences. biggrin.gif

Then, when you feel like getting another one, then why not get the other model of your choice then? tongue.gif

QUOTE(Dark Lynx @ May 28 2006, 09:14 PM)
well let me ask, have you watched zeta gundam or gundam seed?
i think if you have seen the series, the impact of love for the model would be deeper
am i right veterans?  rclxms.gif
*
Right on. Thus I don't buy any GunPla from the GSD series at all. whistling.gif

To sorcecold: We demand that you assemble that MG Wing Zero of yours... laugh.gif

To Dark Lynx: I myself do like the HCM Pro series, they're cute little buggers, definitely more fun than the MSiA series. smile.gif But how are they priced? I kinda forgot how much one roughly costs...

T eyerule: What do you mean by landing stick? Are you refering to the model stand or the landing gear pieces?

What, this one, you mean?

I got this one back in 1999 when Bandai first released it for the Macross 15th Anniversary. But to find this nowdays...... I have to say nigh-impossible, AFAIK. The only one I've seen is the dark blue version of the VF-19. Get that one and do conversion on it, that's the best option now... tongue.gif Or maybe there's the Special Coating version (a.k.a Metallic colours) somewhere in the Klang Valley/country. Your best bet is to do some hunting for it.

Can someone post the link to the page that contains the list of hobby shops in KL? I remember seeing that somewhere, now it seems I'm unable to find it, LOL... sweat.gif. medicontherun should try those locations.

Yeah, and can anyone answer kamel's question, cause I'm been thinking about the same thing: where to find a shop that sells a proficient amount of hobby tools. To kamel, holding back on assembling your PG Wing Zero until you get the right tools is a very considerate move, don't wanna screw up your expensive model... rclxms.gif

Well, both were G Gundam 1/60scale HG-EX PlaMo released back in 1994 (the God Gundam released in October 1994, and the Shining Gundam in June 1994), so yeah, they're pretty old, but the boxes looks like both are well kept all this time. I always fancied the 1/60 God Gundam long time ago, back when I began this hobby. tongue.gif

I believe I got this one for RM100. Now I remember, the dark blue VF-19 was the Emerald Force version. Bandai also made a 1/144 scale PlaMo of the Fire Valkyrie, FYI. I assume you like collecting Macross stuff? rclxms.gif If there's anything else relevant to this, feel free to PM me biggrin.gif .

I think kamel is actually refering to the hobby knife, and not the actual scalp blade that surgeons use to.... blade a scalp? LOL sweat.gif .

I bet kamel is real impatient to fix up his PG Wing Zero, so I think I'll give some info on the tools he might need. So far my most basic tools for GunPla building are these modest three:

from top to bottom: Gundam Marker [GM01-200], side cutters, hobby knife.

For the side cutters, usually any shop that sells hobby products should have some. And about the hobby knife you can get them at any major hardware store (and they might even have suitable side cutters too).

Umm, buy one each and compare it yourself? tongue.gif Maybe not.

From what I know, the MSiA (Mobile Suit in Action) is a line of action figure-like Gundam collectibles made to specifically cater the Western taste (seems they're not the modeller type... whistling.gif ).

But the HCM Pro and the GFF figures, I'm not too sure how to explain them... sweat.gif

to Dark Lynx:

yes i have noted those baddies quite popular among modellers too
would actually wanna see a series where the baddies actually triumph hehe
gundam seed destiny is the only series with no actual non-gundam unit! zaku till the end lol.  come on, bring out sazabi vII bandai biggrin.gif
*
Yes, popular baddie MSs are indeed one of the unique traits of the Gundam models industry. Back when super robot anime was prevalent, the only figures made was the hero robots, since the baddies weren't as significant, being a monster-of-the-week one-time appearance only. But when Mobile Suit Gundam premiered into the mass media, bringing in the 'Realistic Robot' concept along its wake, it revolutionized the toy industry in Japan. With the scale clearly marked, these models can be put together with other similarly scaled military models to create realistic dioramas. This was a very attractive feature to many military model fans. The GunPla MSs demonstrated the imaginative adaptation of development and usage in different combat environments. It also further emphasized the role of MS as weapons (rather than heroes) and encouraged modelers to freely exercise their creativity, thus the realistic mecha concept of GunPla gradually shifted the models away from toys to become display items. Even the baddie robots, which rarely gets released as toys or models, are becoming merchandise, proof that the Gundam anime showcased a sense of equal footing between two opposing sides, sometimes the 'evil' Zeon side actually getting more support than the 'good' Earth Federation, something not usually seen in previous one-sided mecha anime. And this effect is clearly seen in the selection of GunPla as well.

You want to see series' where the bad guys actually make a difference? Welcome to the Universal Century timeline. Want some real iconic baddies? Let's see; Zaku II, Dom, Zugock, Acguy, Gouf, Gelgoog, Zeong, Kaempfer, Gundam Physalis, Gerbera Tetra, Psyco Gundam, Palace Athene, The O, Quebeley, Zaku III, Jagd Doga, Sazabi, Berga Giros, Vigna Ghina, Zollidea, Shokew, Contio, La la la... Come to think of it, almost every single baddie (non-Gundam and otherwise) in the UC timeline can kick arse, and actually have a unique character attributed to it, hence making them real memorable; unlike the usual non-Gundam baddies in SEED, who are more relegated to background fillers and sometimes just as cannon fodder, being usually impersonalized, thus insignificant. And that's my 2 cents. smile.gif

to kct-86:
QUOTE(kct-86 @ Jun 2 2006, 01:53 AM)
OK, after reading through dalong and all that now I get it, why MGs are worth it.
*
Yup, the MG line is the cream of affordable GunPla, so aim for your favourite first and work for it! rclxms.gif

Now, back to the hobby. My topmost post that has the pic of my model standing on its box cover raised a fact in my head. Now I ask the question: Do all of you fellow modelers collect/keep/treasure/horde/whatever their PlaMo boxcover/boxart as well? I do. biggrin.gif

Ah, back from short holiday; all refreshed and recharged for another day at LYN forums. cool.gif

QUOTE(kamel @ Jun 2 2006, 02:54 PM)
yup i really really starting to felt impatient now..but i went to many shops to find those things..especially the marker..all sold out..too bad for me...
or maybe u know anyone that can sell one to me..or you yourself..hehe
*
Oh, most of the shops don't have those kind of tools already? Hmm... anyway, this week I think I'll do another modelhunting excursion to the BB area, and maybe look out for availability of those tools. If I find any, I'll post the info here, 'kay? wink.gif

And there's one thing I'd like to say about my Gundam Marker: Wow. Why? Because this marker performance is just outstanding. I got this one back in early 1998, and after all the panel-lining done on my multiple PlaMos since I got it (not to mention other uses too: CD labeling, book marking and just some plain scribbling, heh) the ink is still going strong. Man, talk about quality durability. You dont' see this kind of product reliability these days, that I'm sure of. I'm loving teh Gundam Marker! thumbup.gif . I always wonder when the ink will finally run out... when it does, I think I'll keep it and won't throw it away, as a sign of respect to its long and faithful service... biggrin.gif

About the lining work, kamel; like kingkong81 said, just don't rush and practice doing the panel-linings. When I did it the first time, I too got messy results; especially on those small, 1/144 Gundam heads, felt like eating those heads in frustration when I didn't get it right, LOL. But soon you'll be able to master your hand movements. Just remember: don't do rush jobs. After all, this hobby teaches us the value of concentration and patience in doing our work. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(Dark Lynx @ Jun 4 2006, 12:26 PM)
perhaps its a bad thing about cosmic era, they wanted to potray mobile suits that is so tough to withstand beams (not without an I-field those days  tongue.gif )  . Also whats more important is the fight battles, in UC battles are more exciting, one false move and we asked "he's dead?" , character utilizing space environments and surroundings as tactical advantage , also ,not so kiddies trash talk ( example ideology talk between amuro and char ) and best of all, protoganist mobile suits that can actually blow up
er is Gerbera Tetra GP04? which episode that appear one?

yea my gundam is outside, what worries me is the boxes, i kept them in cupboard , i don't wanna make them flat
another question (hardcore) , do u all keep the left over runners ? lol

erm one more thing, in gundam seed, i find it too colourful for my eyes. Some say its new anime quality,  i mean, you don't need to blast a rainbow coloured beam from freedom  icon_question.gif

juz noticed this is the 1000th reply  rclxm9.gif
*
Yep, in the UC universe, protagonists' MSs actually get damaged! icon_idea.gif Unlike the always-pristine, stainless steel-grade aimbot that are SEED Gundams. All that laser spam battles, and not a single dent acquired! Unbelievable... whistling.gif . In the UC universe, you can actually see battered, clunky and semi-functioning realisticly-damaged MSs, as seen in 08th MS Team and 0083. That what makes modeling UC MSs so much fun. All that battle damage and weathering. I don't think I've ever seen a weathered Gundam from SEED, it just won't seem right... tongue.gif that's why like whoami123 said, hope Bandai'll make more UC PlaMo as well. UC allows moar creative modeling 'freedom' (LOL at the irony...)

And are you refering to the GP04G Gundam Gerbera? That particular Gundam can be considered an MSV, cause the 0083 anime only showcased up to the GP03S Gundam Stamen. The Gerbera I meant is the red AGX-04 Gerbera Tetra piloted by the awesome Cima Garahau in the last episode of 0083. The Gerbera Tetra is actually the Zeon-styled rebuilt of the abandoned GP04G prototype. nod.gif

Well, I can't keep all my boxcovers as is; I have to open it flat, cause if I don't, my room might look like Litt Tak/DHL warehouse... ohmy.gif . But the plastic runners? Nah, I try to get rid of those (unless it can be used as extra material for some conversion/scratchbuild work), although if I could melt them all down into molds, I could definitely get a lot of extra GunPla, LOL...

And about the flashy rampant colours of SEED MSs? Well, that is pretty much expected for a popular GunPla product line. When the original Gundam first aired, the colouration of the MSs can already be considered a tad bit too colourful for the 'realistic robot' concept. After all, the MS designs have to complement the sales of Gundam models as well, thus the toy-like attractive colours. Not to mention it is also a homage to its predecessor superrobot-era styling of flashy colouration. If it wasn't for the toyline, Tomino-sama would probably use standard military camouflage colours for the MSs, but a range of dust-coloured Gundams models would be pretty boring-looking, right? None of that trademark white-blue-red-yellow.... tongue.gif

And finally we have entered the four-digit realm of posts for this thread! A 1000+ posts! That just shows how strong the presence of all mecha modelers here in LYN thumbup.gif . So keep it up, all!

To Duke Beard, thanks for the better explanation for Godevil's question about the MSiA, HCM Pro and GFF. We too learnt from it. biggrin.gif

To dj898, about the comparison between just assembling and panel-lining, and full airbrush finishing, no doubt the airbrushed treatment is superior. It just all depends on the amount of skills and tools one has at his/her disposal. If possible, go ahead and do the full finishing on the PlaMos; if not, I think properly-done assembly and then just careful panel-lining (and maybe some extra Gundam Markers for extra colours) will do just fine. biggrin.gif And your RX-78-2 seems like it's trying to aggravate your Zeong, LOL. Makes me wanna post funny pictures, too.

ph34r.gif W O W, this thread has grown so much, so fast. Unbelievable, yet reassuring. It's nice to see all of ye so active in the realm of PlaModelling. A lot more fellow modellers has entered this thread, I see. thumbup.gif Nice to meet you.

Ah, my free time is now lessened somewhat by the introduction of the concept of full-time work into my life. A job that makes me wanna whack my noggin' once in a while, LOL. But at least I get to earn the dough that'll enable me to buy all the extra 'junk' previously unattainable. Equivalent trade, they say in FullMetal Alchemist. Maybe true. But I still hunger for my once-bountiful precious free time, time to spend on my hobbies. Ah well, at this age, nothing comes without a price. rolleyes.gif

So far, these are my new additions to my PlaMoColle, the August-September purchase:

I already finished assembling the F91; it's a blast, finally having a legendary Gundam recreated in Master Grade form. For a first in the domain of 15m-class MSs, MG has done a damn impressive job, albeit some elements that can be rectified with some carefull, skillful modification. Just the concept of the polycap-less joint design nags me a little. But all in all, still a lovely MG. Worth all that wait. I promise to post some pictures of the F91 in my next post.

This is the kit to get next, it's a must! The awesome and stylish Crossbone X-1.

This Gundam also comes with it's trademark MS-class garment - the cloak. Whee! The aura of superiority is overwhelming.

Now I dream of the MG versions of the V2, Double X, F90II, Neo and even Xi and Turn A, if possible ph34r.gif . Since Bandai has managed to reclaim some respect from us UC-prone GunPla collectors, they'd better make at least some of these legendary Gundams, and not just concentrate on the redundancy-fest that is you-know-what. whistling.gif

To end this modest post, here's latest input from His Highness Gunota:
QUOTE
Upcoming Gundam merchandise news
From this month's hobby magazines:

MG GM Sniper - Nov, 3675 yen. Comes with MG original sniper pack, and coolant tank. It will be 08th MS version.
MG F91 ver Harrison (aka Crossbone Gundam series) - Nov, 3150 yen. Coloring will be based on the GFF version.
EX White Base - Will include Gunperry, Corebooster, G Fighter, Gundam, Guncannon, and Guntank.
MSiA RX-121-1 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel] - With removeable chobham armor & 3 shield boosters
I might not get the La Vie En Rose, but WHITE BASE? I bloody want, LOL.

Well, this thread will end soon. All great content, thanks to everyone. Meet ye all again in This Superior Thread - Version 3. thumbup.gif
