thinking it might be interesting to get a list of forummers here who have successfully reached the 1000lb total for their barbell back squat, barbell bench press and barbell deadlift. doesn't matter what sort of training you're into, if you've got those numbers, post them!

it's always fun to look at numbers if you want to get inspired, stroke your ego, etc. so post your totals!

Good job guys. Good to see your maxes being posted for the benefit of all.

Mike, I have to admit I did not put much thought into my post but when I get home, I shall make some amendments. I suggest you and future posts include a note at the side of the lift or somewhere in your post stating if any equipment was used to aide in your PR for the required lifts.

Keep it up guys and gals.

For dealift, for my PR is naked + normal sports attire..no straps, belts, all RAW!

So ur deadlift should be around 170-180kg one rep max deadlift..

Added on November 3, 2012, 10:51 am

All one rep max for each exercise.. smile.gif not so great la still need improvement..

Added on November 3, 2012, 10:54 am

Wow gratz man..almost 1000lb..ur bench need some work compared to other lifts..but anyways, gud job! smile.gif
*
Thanks seasick, but even then I'm still not welcome into the club just yet.

Believe it or not I'm still looking for that sweet spot with my grip hence the low numbers. My peers in the same category are however easily surpassing my bench numbers

As they say, WIP.

Total - 357.45kg (788lb)

as per today (3th November 2012).. smile.gif

chasing numbers i see. hehehe. keep up the enthusiasm man. your first 2 milestones would be to break the 300lb barrier on your deadlift and squat.

I think my bench can't go that much so i target around 250lb for my bench.. which is not much far..i just did 242.5lb yesterday..

300lb for deadlift sounds not much..i target at double my bodyweight first, around 341.7lb..

As for squat, 300lb sounds good enough..the more the better.. smile.gif

Do you increase your muscle mass during upping your max?
*
250lb for the bench would be a nice milestone to reach and then slowly work up to 300lb which is not going to be easy because it will take a lot of time.

it's always a numbers game but you should always train to have a rep or two left in you or you might find yourself cutting weight back often.

tbh, i feel that i've only increased strength and size takes a back seat in my endevours. i don't feel like i look big if that makes sense.

Not pushing to limit? I thought for max strength, you need to give it all? Covered by longer rest periods?
*
when you test for your 1RM yes but if you're going through your training cycle, you should not be going balls to the wall every week in order to keep making progress week to week. don't forget to deload too.

longer rest periods when going at 90-95% of your 1RM is the way to go.

Yeap, actually i kinda like get the feeling of deload where you gather and rest your strength nerves during heavy singles to triples. It helps me just that i kinda feel like dunno when to start deload..

My deload training style consist of doing fitness style reps (12-15 reps) at 60-70% for 4 sets..at the end of set of last rep is up to failure..

Is it good to be training this way or just follow the 5x5 but just deloading the weights?
*
personally, if i'm on a deload week i keep my main lifts at around my warm up weights which is around 60% and halve my accessory work. i would not recommend increasing the reps or going to failure at all because the point of having a deload week is to give you an easy week to keep the blood flowing to the muscles and to rest.

however, i have seen guys/gals go on a 3 week cycle which goes something like 75%/85%/95%-1RM and skipping the usual 4th week deload like what i do. their logic is that the 75% is considered an easy week for them after going through a week at 95% or higher.

Ok. Some people think of that way. Its personal preference. smile.gif

Added on November 5, 2012, 12:23 pm

I see.. so the trends follows like increasing intensity for few weeks and deload for 1 week, and next cycle is same pattern except that the intensity is bigger compared to previous cycle? eg 75/85/95% - 1rm, deload, let's say the max is increased by 5%, so 75/85/95% - 1.05rm, deload and so on..

Is this right? smile.gif Is it good to always stay at 75/85/95% or change frequently?
*
your understanding is correct on the training cycle.

there is no issue with staying at the 75/85/95% as long as you are loading up more plates so that you know you are making progress. you don't always have to test your max but if you do find the weights you're using now become less challenging, you might consider testing your max and tweaking the weights you use for your lifts accordingly.

regarding your bench technique and your rotator cuff problem, i would suggest a few things to look out for next time you bench:
- is the bar sitting on your wrist? not behind it.
- are your elbows below your wrist throughout the movement? not in front of it.
- are you lowering the bar to the point on your chest between your pecs and sternum? this would very likely be the shortest bar path.
- are you flaring or keeping your elbows towards your side? the former tends to cause shoulder problems when heavier weights are being moved.
- shoulder blades should be digging into the bench and remain there from the moment you remove the bar from the hooks.

the above are just some of the things that make up the checklist in my head before performing the press so, hopefully this helps you too.

For what? Building muscles? Sure. But now, in this very thread, they are discussing about how much is your 1RM lift for bench, squats and deads. They are not discussing about what is the best reps for building muscles.

hehe, no one cares tbh. youre missing the point of the thread

thanks for steering the thread back to the original point guys.

i'm giving up squats though..i have a wrist problem so i can bend it 180 to support the bar on my back....have started hack squats though..and loving it smile.gif
*
i wouldn't give up the back squat and replace them with hack squats (barbell or machine variant) as the latter is targeted at your quads. i would however recommend both back and hack squat as part of your routine .

with regards to your wrist problem, you're most likely resting the bar closer to the underside of your knuckles and not on your wrist. this causes your wrist to hyperextend further irritating your wrist problems while you squat. i would suggest that you do a reasonable amount of wrist stretches prior to any workout requiring your wrists to flex and to use wrist wraps for added support.

2 things I want to mention on this video. 1st one is look how Stan Efferding holds the barbell during squat. It might fix the problem on your squats. 2nd, this is the current world record =)

*
good stuff.

for those who are lazy to watch the video, 864lb raw squat is the squat to beat. note that raw lifts still allow 13mm thick belts, wrist wraps and neoprene knee sleeves.

before thinking about entering the 2000lb club, let's focus on entering the 1000lb club first, heh.

Just tested my max for squat for the first time on last Monday. It was 271lbs 1RM and it is easy (no grinding). I'll test it on next Monday together with deadlift. This Friday I'll test the bench press.

My estimation, I would be around 650 lbs totalĀ   sad.gif
*
you probably have another 30-40lbs more in your squat smile.gif you've also got the weight to push/pull huge weights, so i think if you did focus on strength, you might very well reach that 1000lb goal sooner.

Bench = 154 lbs
Squats = 242 lbs
Deadlift = 264 lbs

Total is 660 lbs. Far from 1000 lbs. =/

good. one of your resolutions for 2013 would be to bring your total up to 800lbs or more. smile.gif

My stats are

bench press - 125kg (275lbs) x 5 reps
squats - 160kg (352lbs) x 4 reps
deadlift - 200kg (440lbs) x 2 reps

so my total is 1067lbs. Yay! I'm in! smile.gif Bodyweight 83kg btw.
*
Congrats on being the first on the list! No prizes though. Heh. By the looks of it you should be able to max at 1100lbs if you did test your maxes on each lift. Looking forward to your actual max and I'll gladly update your total on the front page.

Will test max in about 4 weeks from now. Hopefully I can enter this group myself. Anyone else interested in testing too?

good job Iron_grizzly. only 25lb more to go.

how's everyone else doing these days?

was wondering if anyone would like to start a meetup to set verified PRs. think of it as a trial run powerlifting meet if you'd like? i'm back in sunny Malaysia now and wouldn't mind setting something up.

Goodstuff guys.

Any suggestions for a suitable gym to meetup to set some PRs? I'm thinking gym rakyat in tmn maluri because almost nobody uses the cage and it only costs rm5 with a locker.

Let's throw some ideas around.
