Sme warranty is for what we call prevention or precaution and not to define how careless you are. Its your property not ours.agreed. these warranty from SME is to give you peace of mind. it is like life insurance. some ppl believe in it. some ppl dun. ultimately, it is the person's own decision based on the risks he or she is willing to take (or not).
for me... my experience with SME has been somewhat disappointing.
just to share... my Note 1 charger had this hissing sound since day 1. when i first brought it to the SC next to highway (that was before 6 months warranty), i was told by the 'nice' people there that it is normal. i had also complained of screen not being sensitive when charging. 5 mins later, i was told that the screen is normal and hissing sound is normal. no service report was given to me. next number called -- btw, this SC is horrible. the wait time can be easily a few hours because the accept complaints for ALL samsung products -- TV, etc... so, if you need to go to SC, try the lowyat one instead.
anyway, my note had 2 years warranty (extra 12 months). i had assumed that batteries and chargers would have at least the 12 months warranty following the handset's original warranty (before the extended 12 months). after all, most electrical products like notebook is also like that. my bad for not checking warranty details...
the thing is... i decided to make a trip again to SC. this time lowyat plaza. it was still within 12 months. again... same complain... screen not sensitive and charger making hissing sound. i also added a new complain -- battery was not stable. when i power down and power up the phone again, battery meter can sometimes show a drop by 20-30%!
2-3 working days later, i called up to check on my case and was informed my case closed. problem fixed.
so went to SC and collect the phone... but just to me told... charger already out of warranty. so nothing fixed. i explained that my first trip to SC, i was mislead into thinking it is normal (but i have no report to prove this). the 'nice' lady told me to just buy another charger la... if i cannot tahan the hissing sound.
i think the same for battery -- out of warranty (or was it that firmware fixed the issue -- see below).
as for the screen issue, i was told they have upgraded the firmware. this one, very sure is BS coz...
#1. i always make sure i have updated software/ firmware
#2. i had made a few screenshots of the battery level to be shown to the service ppl
when i got my phone back, the screenshots were still there. phone was not wiped. firmware also the same...
i believe the screen sensitivity thingy is related to the 'faulty' charger...
so, if i had changed it earlier, i guess no issue and probably will not have any issues after 24 months.
but since i had issues and i got such reply from SME... it makes me think... worth it or not to get SME set?
when you drop the phone and break the screen, SME is not going to replace the parts FOC anyway. i believe that with AP set, i can still walk into SC and say i wanna pay for repair. it should be the same cost...
so... in such case... if i can get AP set for rm300 less... that's money saved and can be used for the note 2's smart dock.
