They had to release the iPad4. Considering that they have shifted to a new lightning connector, selling the old connector during the holidays does not make any sense. Plus the competition with the other tablets such as the Surface has really spark up. They need to beef up the processor so they could maintain their market share. Why let Surface gain all the spotlight?

which means the processor of iPad 3 still is the best processor even compare with the latest iPad aka iPad mini right/.

The new ipad aka ipad 3 = A5X

it has become the old ipad since the launch of 4th gen ipad yesterday = A6X

The new Ipad (3rd Gen ) use A5X , Facetime VGA , old connector
The 4th Gen Ipad ( announced several hrs ago ) use A6X , Facetime 720P ,new Lightning connector

Dont be sad...

A5X is no slouch, just that A6X is better. If you dont need the extra speed for gaming etc, it does not matter except lower resale value.

VGA or 720P is just the resolution. You need to see how many MP first. If not by much, I doubt will be much different. Afterall, my Galaxy Note and S3 720P front camera still look like shit if you asked me.

maybe the revised version might solved the heat/warm issue which happened in 3rd generation.

as current owner of ipad 2 since 2011, this is what i have been waiting for...ipad 4...definitely going for it..i guess for current ipad 3 owner, worries not as its still retina display right...facetime rarely use what...

I won't change it for the time being. Not much improvement to yank about.

time to change from iPad1->iPad4

If u are planning to upgrade from either iPad 1 or iPad 2, this refresh is totally a good update

For iPad 3 owner who bought this new ipad this year or recently, i don't think it is a good time to upgrade it as you can see, there's no much major upgrade other than the Processor. I personally would wait for next year iPad 5 for new design

Yea i am sad because my iPad 3 is outdated and being completely removed from Apple store. But if you think wisely, the iPad 3 specs are very good as well, despite maybe slightly slower than the new iPad 4 in term of Processing power. And i don't think the different will be that big.

If you have extra cash and always a loyal Apple Fans just like Steve Wozniak, then you may go ahead to get the better, upgraded iPad 4

p/s i really wonder have Apple solved the "warm" issue of New iPad after some time of intense gaming

The way i see it, ipad3 to ipad4 is like iphone4 to iphone4s
Not much changes except for specs and so on, nothing that the previous one couldnt do.
Now for ipad mini, that's new. I'm interested

To remove the then New iPad … or iPad 3, for a lack of better name and yet, maintaining the iPad 2 in the sales line is just pure screwed up.

I would suggest one to purchase the latest release ONLY if the unit at hand is unable to perform the essentials. If it is the 1st unit, then going for the latest release would be a much better or wiser option regardless of the price slashed on the previous model.

Maintaining ipad2 in store is just to make the ipad mini sales boom because ipad mini is cheaper, better camera, better chip and so on. Maintaining ipad 3 in store is just stupid when the ipad 4 with same price but better specs available

if they sell ipad3 cheaper, people will still buy it.. especially those looking for bargains.. furthermore, having the old charging connecter is more convenient if u have other old apple products

then its difficult for ipad mini, which have same chip with ipad 3.
they really want the ipad mini to have very good sales to really swing over android small tab user or future buyer

i don't think nexus 7 is a threat la.. even in malaysia google nexus is not taking off.. and even got people in lyn selling after just bought it for a few days... coz nexus 7 is crap

5 reasons not to buy ipad mini
1) Low resolution, only same as ipad 2 which launch about 2 years ago.
2) Higher price if comapare to other 7 ince tablet.
3) Ipad mini 2 might come as fast as ipad 4
4) A5 processor which is again same as ipad 2 which launch about 2 years ago.
5) Window 8 RT is coming strong.

5 reasons to consider buying:
1) it's not the same visually
2) people already know apple price is higher, because of the built quality
3) have to wait for months or years, u might die before that

that exchange is only apply to few apple shop in US, it might come from shop owner themselves (maybe that apple shop is franchise or authorized dealer?)

Im very dissapointed with this.. i bought it from our malaysia authorise apple dealer with receipt, suppose can exchange..if i bought it from individual seller then i have nothing to comment since there's no proven receipt of purchase..

Ipad 4 is not targeting ipad 3 users. But what sucks is malaysians can't do the exchange program. And what sucks too is I bought my ipad 3 month ago thinking that I have 9 months before they announce the next upgrade. but i actually have only have 3 months. I could have waited if i knew. Feel a bit cheated in that sense.

same feeling here..i bought my ipad 3 arounf the end july..now feeling conned by Apple..anyway, ipad 4 doesn't reli differ much compared to ipad 3..so i'm not planning to upgrade it anyway..perhaps wait till ipad 5 (maybe 3 months later this time?)

Why no the exchange program at here. I feel bad that I helped my oversea brought the Ipad 3 some more is from Sg as I couldnt wait for the Ipad 3 launch at Msia.... And now it launch the Ipad 4....

Overall, I don't see the different between IPAD 3rd & 4th generation except processor. Nothing new to the display but still Retina screen Display . And I am in love with the retina screen to display my lovely albums and photo, watching HD movie.

Charging adaptor is using 30 pin and I can continue use my messive 30 pin cables anywhere...

Just that feel like being con of unexpected announced of new gen IPAD cusz I just bought this new IPAD last week. Think we have too much focus on mini ipad. I think new IPAD generation should come out something new technology not just a minor upgrade. Sadly mini ipad just came out with A5 processor, guess this is thier marketing strategy of launch new gen mini IPAD in another 6 months ( or probabaly 3 months ) of processor upgrade...

Probably to cater different needs. The iPad Mini is more of a portable one hander tablet, good for reading etc, less games or performance apps while the iPad is for more productive tasks. Seems like Apple is following Samsung's trend of launching new products every half-yearly now.

Perhap apple figure out losing market in 7inch that's come out with 7.9 ,
Thou A5 chip is still perform well for most of the games,won't feels lag,just slightly faster in ipad3
