Seriously, this is what I don't understand. And for some reason, even in the US, you can only get it from Google Play. No third party retail shops are selling (officially, at least). The only reason I can think of is maybe they may be planning a sort of exclusivity period for AT&T and T-Mobile to sell without contract as well later. So, at first, Google Play only. Then Google Play, AT&T and T-Mob only. Then everyone else.

QUOTE(n8210 @ Nov 21 2012, 08:43 PM)
My kid has his year end concert and there was a professional camera fixed at the center. Despite the MC keep giving warning that everyone should be seated or if you take pictures, make sure don't disturb other people, nobody cared.

On both sides of the stage, there are big screen projector playbacks.... yet ppl still go to the center, in front of the paid pro camera, and block the view. At the end, the final piece is a group singing with the teachers, etc...both the projector screens showed only a pitch black blank screen. Bravo msia... this is the kind of inconsiderate ppl whom I label rude, completely rude.
*
Fuyoh... why does this sound so familiar wan...? Was the concert in Kajang by any chance? Would be nice to know a fellow N7 user in Kajang! LOL!

So far I know of only one retailer , Hotspot at Lowyat Plaza ( ground floor) that sells Nexus 7 sets as authorised reseller
Dont worry many users here in this thread has got their so called AP/foreign purchased sets and ASUS KL has honor the warranty. There was another user who also got a free replacement set. Most other users sent in to replace their speakers and repair screen display issues
*
Yup... I got a free replacement unit.

i tried reflashing the rom ady but the problem still exists..
i really can wait for 2 weeks cuz i need it for my studies =(
hopefully they'll pity me and replace my unit..lol..
Dude, the Service Centre is not gonna replace a new unit for you on the spot. The most is that they will tell you that they will replace the LCD part. If you are lucky, they have the part in stock. Otherwise, they will tell you they need to order the part from Taiwan. Total turn around time will be about 2 to 2.5 weeks in that case. What you can do is that you can request, after they have evaluated your unit, that you take it back with you instead of it sitting there as you need to use it. Then when the part arrives, tell them that they should call you to let you know and to send your unit in. Thereafter, part replacement may still need a few days as they are supposed to test it before handing it back to you.

They will only replace a 1-1 for you if they have tried to repair it unsuccessfully 2 to 3 times (usually 3, as what they told me).

From your description, it looks like you have a hardware problem - defective screen. But try what Benny suggested, flash back to stock ROM, unroot it and lock it back. This is just to see whether rooting was the cause of your problems. Highly unlikely, but better to try than having to deal with warranty claims. If problem persists, then you will have no other choice but to send it in (other than living with the defect).

Great stuff! Do let us know whether you have any problems with our Malaysian SIM cards and what telco are you using. Oh, and I believe it uses the micro SIM format, right?

Omg. After reading the postings here about the warranty coverage, I think better summarise the situation as observed.

1. IMHO, all Nexus 7s should be covered by Asus International Warranty for all models in Malaysia. There does not seem to be any exception mentioned. See http://www.service.asus.com/#!Tablet%20Warranty/ctzm (especially for units brought in from US).

2. All parts are covered by the warranty, including the screen. As for the screen, if it cracks, then it becomes a question of did it just break by itself suddenly? Or was it user-caused (dropped, knocked, putting undue pressure on screen, etc etc)? This question is hard to determine and may be difficult to prove either way. But the problem is, most screen cracks in most devices are usually user-caused (I am not pointing my finger at anyone in particular here, mind you). So, Asus is not saying screen cracks are not covered per se, but they are indirectly saying chances are the crack was caused by the user. It wouldn't/shouldn't have cracked under "normal usage", which would be logical. Can't really blame that logic. So, unless you can prove otherwise (which would be extremely difficult), the warranty wouldn't cover user-caused damage or what the SC assesses to be so, obviously.

As for other screen defects like backlight problems, being washed out, not sensitive to touch, or detecting touches wrongly, these would definitely be covered by the warranty. I could even claim warranty for the infamous screen lifting problem with a previous unit I had, as obviously it was a manufacturing defect.

3. As for what Newegg MY is saying about having to send it back to US for warranty claims, I think they are either mis-informed or they have not expressed themselves properly. They could be talking about doing a RMA (Return Merchandise Authorisation) with Newegg US or Google, whereby you actually get a straight 1 to 1 replacement without them trying to repair it first (they won't know how to, of course). But only if you send it back within a certain period of time. If you send it to an Asus Service Centre, they won't do a straight 1 to 1 replacement for you the first time. They would try to repair it first. After having failed to repair it for like 2-3 times or like in Benny's case, they screwed up the unit further while trying to repair it, only then would they replace a new unit for you.

Hi there Nexus Lovers,

I'm planning to move from iOS to Nexus, because of the cheaper price. Would it be a good idea?

I'll mostly use it for going online, checking my gmail, store and read my important documents/notes, creating new documents. I'm a university student btw.

The only downside i feel is that it's inability to be hooked up to an external display for presentation purposes and how is the play store when it comes to apps for medical professionals/students?

So help me out here and tell me what amazing stuff that the Nexus can do that the iOS cant (that is inline with my uni life).
*
I would say a Nexus 7 should be great for a med pro/student. The size and portability means you can carry it around with you almost everywhere. Good for quick reference to notes and the internet on the go. Creating new documents is not too shabby either. Also good for quick reference to appointments and schedules/class times.

As for medical apps, better to have a browse of the Play Store to see what you need is there. If what you need is only available on iOS, the iPad mini is another good option. The thing is, a 10.1 inch tablet is just not as portable.

Guys I have a little dilemma here. My laptop battery just died and I am thinking of getting a new toy to replace my laptop. Now, I am deciding to get a tablet instead for easier portability.

However, what do you think in terms of usage for Google nexus 7? I mean of course it is not a laptop p but could it perform tasks close to what laptop can do? hmm.gif
*
Depends what tasks you talking about.

Yeah I know what you mean. Haha tried that last time and damn it is possible but susah giler...
Well said here. Well I only got 1laptop so... smile.gif

Hmm..I usually use laptop for easy and light browsing. No games on laptop. And not to forget, my course work assignments.

Also sorry I didn't want to reply everyone cos it will make the reply freaking long doh.gif
*
I dunno what your assignments/course work involves, but if there is loads of typing to be done, or tables/graphs/spreadsheets to be generated, then nothing beats a laptop/desktop. The word or spreadsheet apps on tablets are quite competent nowadays, but doing proper formatting on a long document could still be a pain. They are more suited for creating short documents or light editing of long documents.

Plus typing long documents on a touchscreen will still not be as good as doing it on a proper laptop/desktop keyboard. Of course, you could invest in a portable keyboard for your tablet, but bear in mind, portable keyboards are of course smaller, have shorter key travel, and will not be as comfortable as laptop/desktop keyboards. And it will eat into your tablet battery.

The smaller screen of the tablet will also not make it as ideal to type or edit long documents. Can you imagine the scrolling back and forth that you have to do?!

I use my tablet for work as well, but mainly to quickly refer to documents that I have transferred over, to check documents for errors and to do light editing. I also create new documents for work, but only for documents 2 to 3 pages long, max. Formatting docs like borders, justification, para spacing, tab spacing, etc are more limited on tablet apps compared to full blown PC programs. So I do what I can on the tablet and thereafter I transfer the doc back to a PC and fine tune the formatting. So, I still can't fully get rid of my laptop/desktop. And have you thought about what if you need to print something?

On top of all that, I use my tablet to keep track of my to-do lists and my appointments and make lots of notes. A lot like how you would use a paper diary.

So to answer your question, no you shouldn't entirely replace your laptop with a tablet if you want to get "real" or heavy work done. The tablet should be more of a companion to your laptop. A tablet's advantages for work would be its portability and the fact it is "instant -on". If you want to have quick access to your work to refer some stuff or to do light work/editing, then you just whip out your tablet. For heavier work, you would then whip out your laptop. If there are budget constraints, and you can't afford both, stick to the laptop. Can't go wrong. A tablet is not a "must have", but a laptop is. Sorry for my long winded reply.
