mechanical engineer. I wanted to go into OnG industry so much. But some of the company like GPS and tedbaker did not recruit any internship student when I called them. Companies like Exxon never answer my phone while I was calling them continuously for 2 months through their main line, but I was too late for their intake after I got them.Companies like VME process, scomi and technip never even bother to reply me after i sent them my application. They only reply me with the engineering department haven reply the hr when i check with them. Aih. I applied since dec and my list of companies is increasing but not even one reply me

For me, I think you should try to apply from service company rather than ONG company. Reason being most ONG will ask 3rd party company to help them in engineering work (piping, platform, turbine, etc). I dont remember any ONG company doing their engineering work themselves.
Try engineering company like sapura, RNZ, mmc or ranhill.
Also, make sure your result is good enough for them to consider.

some OnG HR always advertise and wanting fresh grads as their employers.. easier to mould i think..

i'm not so sure of how ppl first get into OnG but sure a lot of them enter bcoz of cable ...  shocking.gif

Neither me nor my fellow friends get into ONG bcoz of cable.
I got a job with three different company (even my first job) without any advertisement/cable from them.

OK so many pages came and went i'll try to remember to reply what i can. SOmeone asked about Talisman? if got offer, then GO grab it. It's one of the main contractors around that actually pays well. However, it also depends on which line u're getting in.

*
Just to clarify, Talisman is an operator, not contractor. smile.gif

Well, there are so many O&G co. around, so many fields, some work offshore, some work in the office. Some work in remote places while others enjoy the buzz of city life. So, in a way, you choose to become what you are... Got to lie on the bed that you've made, right?
*
Agree with depster. There are so many ONG company that give you high paid, with normal working hours (most of the time that is). When you factor the working condition, facilities, location, you can see some line of work is not as bad as what you said that also give you big bucks.
Also, dont compare freshies salary, of course it will be different. Try to compare people with experiance of 5,10,20 years experiance. It might not be too different.

Hi bro,
care to share what is your previous job with scumberger and what are you planning to be after you complete your Msc? You mentioned that you interested with reservoir e.g subsurface, perhaps you want to venture in reservoir engineer? Or maybe you can be petroleum technologist? both job is office based, but pay wise is still consider very good.
Although three years doesnt seem long, but it will give you a advantage when you going for interview later since you have a basic knowledge in ONG.
Anyway, good luck in your study.

It seem everyone interested join this field. If looking for high paid. yes it is because of the risk and nature of business. However bear in mind its depend on field ages which till now everyone will expected there are no more oil to be drilling.

Currently the one who can beat this oil and gas salary is TELCO field. Engineer telco can get easier 6k above now. hehehe....

Dont think you are right on the bolded part. There are plenty of areas that haven't been explored yet. Further more there a alot of small field that currently waiting to be develop. So i think ONG activity in Malaysia will continue for quite sometime.

hi all. I'm a master student, currently doing full time research in petrophysics and rock physics field. i would like to know my chances in oil and gas industry after my graduation. i've heard before that if O&G companies want to hire people with master qualification, they will put us (master holder) in research only. Meaning that, we will mostly spend our time in lab. Not sure whether this is true or not..  rclxub.gif  Since this is O&G forum full with O&G experienced people, so i'm asking this question. Can i apply for positions other than lab-based like exploration or field engineering, etc2...?

Since youre taking petrophysics, than its very likely you will work in office (although you can always try a diff position). Petrophysicist is quite in demand in Malaysia, since its quite hard to find locally breed petrophisicist (mostly regional or expat). In oil companies or consultants, you'll work in the office (not lab). Your job will be assessing well log data to determine reservoir quality, fluid, pressure, etc. You will be busiest during drilling season. Other than that, its just a normal office hour.
