Yupz carlos is right about the progression. Operator is for those who dun have degree.

Rough guide: Imagine in civil line, where you progress up from the laborer ranks (wireline assistant) to foreman(operator) and maybe then have chance to become engineer.

Btw, gun man have the risk of handling explosives so remember money should not really be your be all end all. The work done at the field can be risky. People have lost fingers or their lives etc...

Well Testing

As a career path, anyone can offer advice on this? Currently made available to me to partake. wink.gif The thing is once I specialize in this, its no way back for the next good 5 years. I was told by an experienced Scot (ex-well test guy) that exploration is where the $$$ is. I'm in upstream atm but not that UP of the stream haha. blush.gif

Np with me if you have no experience on this but do know someone in this line. Just PM me their contacts. Thanks guys.

Dear all sifus and friends,

I have a friend who specializes in telecommunication and works as a planning engineer in DiGi. He has a double degree in Computer and Science engineering in the local and Germany universities.

I wonder whether he can get involve in this oil n gas industry?  icon_question.gif

I really appreciate if you could inform me any job vacancies that suit with his qualification.  notworthy.gif

Thank you in advance. =)

Why does he want to join OnG? If I tell you that telecoms industry can get more than OnG industry, does he still want to join? Better consider if he likes the work or he likes the money. Check some of the threads in Lowyat, get into the right telecom company and you be soaring. smile.gif

Well, if youre based in the right location (aka countries where oilfield services is expensive and numerous) you can own a nice yacht as a sales engineer. Nuff said.

You are a real newbie, they will call your previous company and ask about your situation, performance, duration etc. The most important thing in Oil and Gas is your reputation, if it's ruined then you can say bye bye to O&G. Trust me those reputable companies check every of their employees, unless you plan to enter those chinaman companies then I know nothing about it.

Preferably Degree, most of the operators (Exxon, Shell... etc) won't even take Bachelor's holder anymore, unless you are super brilliant in your studies and extra-curriculum. Why don't you study more when you are still young?
*
You sure about that? I'm just curious since I have friends in local operators (Exxon, Shell, Petronas... etc). No point having payscale for degree holders then.

@TT: Erms, many other jobs also important ma. See teaching/education, see transportation- lorry driver, bus driver etc, see *you get my point*

Maybe can just admit- ITS FOR THE MONEY!!!! *and nuthin else* wink.gif

I know people will quit their jobs in OnG if they get offer of same pay elsewhere. Sometimes not so worth it... the working lifestyle.

Petronas platforms are more strict I believe. I was once at the Asian Supply Base in Labuan when I saw this scene.

One contractor guy tried to hide his HP inside his safety boots and when they check (before taking the boat to Semarang) they found it. He tried to feign ignorance but it was obvious he was trying to hide it (no sane man keeps their HP inside their boots). Be careful .... that fella was left on shore even after confiscating his HP. Boat left without him, poor man.

I dont think they throw them back in. I don't know but people have been eating really fresh fish during night shifts out here, if you get my drift. Fish that came out from the water just after excess brine has been dumped into the sea for example. Dunno if you guys have offshore exp here in Bolehland. tongue.gif

That's what I heard from guys who actually witness this illegal fishing. They use fishing lines and tied them to their legs (or is it the railing) so that it is not visible. Once caught, they release the fish, cause no way u can get away with dead fish without people smelling something fishy.

Some do it discreetly but not as bad as you say. They share the spoils with the company men etc. Same like govt kua. Want to open big biz must give cut to little naps then they will approve your permits. Taste fresh tho btw. Cos immediately catch and cook is quite nice, especially if make into soup. Hahahahaha! blush.gif

Looking for contractors or oil services company where involve more offshore / hands on technical stuff...any idea bout this??
*
Well from your post I guess you just want the money right? Then you should aim for contractors. High pay, lots of offshore time.

I'm sitting right beside an SLB specialist now. He says that the hiring has slowed down much but still can apply. Two ways: Career fair ( mad.gif if your uni is sucks and they dun want to come) or hand directly to HR or online application (careers @ SLB). Try others like Halliburton and Baker. Which pays solidly well for jobs like logging, directional drilling stuff. Just keep in mind corporate progression may not be there with contractors if you fancy yourself earning huge bucks later in life wearing a tailored suit. Anyways for OnG, you have to prepare yourself to relocate to ulu places such as Kemaman or Labuan. Or if overseas then desert etc.

Nope, some people trade smaller paycheck for better life balance. Which type you like?

On your question, this means you know a HR person working at the company.
