boy oh boy, it is consider normal and everyday routine to work in that kind of environment. So what i would say to those interview is very very normal and it is the first door to the company, their ppl will ask you all kind of questions, judge you from all kind of angle, and evaluate you from tip to toe. My suggestion to this kind of interview, only talk when you are 200% confirm you know what are you talking, doing and who you talking to, or else better just shut up and sit down. Do not try to lie to them, that's the worst case of all.
*
yea, i agree, talk only tings that u know, not trying to be smart, but if u wan to win their good image on u, respect them, be polite and firm... no matter how they shoot u, just be confident wt ur point, but still, talk in the good manner.... at least, they are the ppl who have the experience and seniority...

i dont remember much but, they covers the insurance like wat other companies do, if a fresh wan to persue the master course while working wt them, the fees can be reimbursed as soon as the course is finished. The another benefits will be free membership for some clubs outside.... there's lots more than that, but i couldnt remember it cause i've turned down their offer...... i didnt see the whole package as well, but when im an intern last time in Shell, they said that the salary incrememnt is also very fast, etc etc... they have very good impression about BH..

oh ya... for those who're interested in Exxon Mobile, one of the Geoscientists manager from exxon told us that there is a new program now for fresh grad. It is a 3 years program, where in this 3 years, u'll be assigned a mentor to see ur progress, and u'll also be changed from one department to another in ur field, being sent off for trainings and study at houston school etc. the purpose is to help u realize and determine the department tat you really like and interested in. After the 3 years, u'll be able to choose the any department that u wan to join, provided that there is vacancy for you so that you could perform as good as u could, as it will be ur choice and preference. This is a very good program, i believe, based on the concept that one could perform best when one is doing things that he or she really interested in.

im not sure... cause i've just went through the first interview.... but the manager said that ur future is determined in the first 5 years, whether u stay as the staff there, or u could become the CEO after tat, based on ur performance.. i dunno whether its true or not, but that is what the geoscientist told us when he came to interview us..

Future depends on your first 5 years, which mean you have to work like dog and tomorrow never comes for the next 5 years just to see your capability and attitude towards the company, after promote you to something, you still need to work like superdog for day and night. I believe thats what he trying to tell you.  biggrin.gif
*
Not really, he is an ex-student of USM, been working for exxon mobile for 27 years.. i asked him, what makes him stay so long in exxon mobile... he said that he see the good sides of the company in long term. it is a company which value u a lot... he spends 27 years there working in different departments. he said he enjoy it, cause whenever he's bored of one job, he'll shift to another department, which means that he's a very experienced person in many different field in this industry. he said he saw twice downturn of oil and gas industry, but since exxon mobile is a huge company, at least it could still sustain the employees, instead of fired some of them to save cost... of course there are some other companies that offer him better pay, but still, he sticks wt Exxon, because the benefits offered by other companies is maybe attractive only in short term, but not really beneficial when looking into it in long term. One more thing is that the program that i mention just now is good enough to show that they value the working interest of the employee, instead of paying u high salary and do anything as they say(which as u said, working like a dog). At least u got the chance to choose... one more interesting thing about their interviewing style. the manager brought us to the equitorial hotel to have buffet lunch for free, just to talk with us and shared his experience he gained in the industry. It's so relax and makes us feel really free to ask anything we like. about the interview session, its a normal chatting, with some technical things, if u have had an internship before, and guess wat, again, the process is not tense at all. If feels like your're talking to a friend, and again, u could ask for his opinion on ur future career. His answer is not biased at all. From his attitude and all the things i've seen from him, i guess that he really enjoy what he is doing and the best thing is that he is not cocky at all... i dunno whether its the same for other employees in Exxon mobile or not, but frankly, i've gone through 5 times of interview for oil and gas company, but this one is the best. I'm not judging based on the free buffet of course smile.gif , but the good attitude of a manager, successful, yet humble and friendly. smile.gif

KEVINLING, service company is a place for you to gain as much training as you could, specialised in your own study scope. its not necessary that u have to work in service company for your whole life. when you got enough experience, u can either persue your dream or move to oil company for better prospect/benefits and long term career if you like. We work to live, not live to work.. We need to find a place which u really feel comfortable with, which you feel worth it for you to stay long and which value you. But during the process, there's no harm to try out something beyond your imagination and experience it before leaving any comment or decision on it. The worse thing in life is to give up before you even try to feel it. Who knows, the working place might be sucks but the environment, teamwork, relationship between coworkers and benefits are really good and u really like it? smile.gif sometimes dont look at one factor only before deciding on what to choose, but look at it as a whole picture, because its always hard to get everthing all at once. There's one saying " if u couldnt do what u like, like what u do''. without job satisfaction, its quite hard for one to perform.. just be optimistic a bit... smile.gif and tomorrow will be better wink.gif

O&G industry is very tough industry, not because of the physical environment, but the working environment. You always be at situation where you need to constantly improve yourself, perform, and get better result. It means that, today you can run 1km, but tomorrow you need to run 2km, and everyday keep increase and increase. This is the kind of environment that you need to face and prepare yourself with. This kind of environment will only make you tougher and faster.

yes... smile.gif i agree with you... O&G is an industry that is keep on improving. we need to keep in pace with it by advancing ourselves as well..

[size=7]yea... another thing is that they seems to be more interested in the students recruited through the career fair etc... fast respond and reply from them. Last time i sent an online appication form to SLB but there's no respond at all.. it is after around 2 months later they came to our uni, and i just tried out their screening process at their booth before i got the chance for the next interviews. We also got the result on whether make it or not in quite a short time, around 1 weeks.. So,for the fresh grads, i reckon, its better to show up at their booth during career fair ... smile.gif

Not all students would prefer to have interview during career fair as there are many other potential companies as well.
I have seniors who decided not to go SLB interview coz it took long time and missed out other good companies where their interview shorter in duration.

Somehow, it should be a good experience as said to be among the tedious interview tongue.gif

And kevin1mil, how you get the chance to interview b4 the career fair? just by sending form online? share with us.
*
True, it consumes quite a lot of times for the total 4 sessions of interview, and yea, it also depends on the companies that show up during the career fair. During our career fair, only 3 O&G companies showed up, which are, Petronas, Dugeo and SLB. For petronas, they're only keen to interview those who didnt pass the interview during our second year, as a second chance for them. And the good thing is that their interviewing time is adjustable, so, still ok for those who wan to try out both Petronas and SLB.. For Dugeo, we're only required to summit our resume and any interview will only be carried out after we all grad. Other companies such as Exxon, PGS, Shell came during our career talk, organised by geophysics student of AAPG in USM. smile.gif

biggrin.gif haha... i think setting the target will be a very important thing to do instead of randomly pick several companies for interview during the career fair. But i think apply for every company through internet first, few months prior to the career fair. Only if the companies you've targeted do not give any respond or reject your application before even giving you any chances for interview, go and look for them during career fair.. let them see that you're capable with their own eyes laugh.gif
