New Apples only in 2013
Cupertino firm’s focus on Xmas deliveries, hit by touchscreen supply shortage

STILL WAITING: The iPhone 5 launch in Malaysia hs yet to be confirmed — GETTYpic

MALAYSIANS will have a wait a little longer to get their hands on the latest products from Apple — with the iPhone 5, iPad 4 and iPad Mini due to be launched here only next year.

While Apple had earlier announced its latest three products would be available in in over 100 countries with 240 carriers by December, there has been no follow-up dates provided.

Even as speculation was rife in several online Apple consumer sites hopeful of earlier delivery dates, several Apple authorised dealers confided in The Malay Mail that any launch date here is very likely to be after Jan 2 at the
earliest.

One source said this is likely due to Apple, based in Cupertino in California, giving focus to meeting orders for Christmas deliveries in its key markets — given that such revenue is a staple among retailers in the US.

Several news reports also suggest Apple may be facing constraints in the supply of its retina display touchscreens — which was contracted to LG Display, Japan Display and Sharp amid the ongoing patent dispute with its former supplier Samsung of South Korea.

All three companies are responsible for the first-of-its-kind retina display, where engineers integrated the touch feature into the display screen, instead of constructing it layer by layer.

In contrast, while the Samsung Galaxy S II had taken more than four months to reach Malaysia, the electronics firm had shortened the local availability date to as short as 27 days for the Malaysian launch of the Galaxy S III.
