QUOTE(awansakti @ Jan 6 2013, 08:40 PM) We should have a lake like in thailand where they actually purposely keep all those foreign fishes till effing huge.for fishing sport.people come from all over the world to fish those giant rtc gars etc etc.also, can release all you guys' huge tiger goliath there later lol You referring to IT Monster Lake in Ratchaburi? I think the lake itself is many acres in size. But what's interesting is the attitude that the Thai people have towards fish. Watch National Geographic Monster Fish Thai Eden episode. It's cool that fishes facing extinction elsewhere can thrive in Thailand. Anyway, here's a video although a terrible one LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE2Z1-dZD_c |

I'm looking for monsters to stock a new pond but limiting my choice of fishes to those that feed on pellets only.
Size I prefer minimum 3ft length - any ideas? |

QUOTE(antzz @ Jan 17 2013, 08:37 AM) RTCs maybe? But they'll suck on almost everything. U knowlah rtc.. I don't mind a couple more but I'm worried if I get them small then the larger ones will have a nice dinner. QUOTE(LuQEE @ Jan 17 2013, 09:19 AM) im not sure or not, but i saw a big RTC(sorry im very new to monster fish species) in Nilufar. Size probably 2ft+/-. Yeah, saw that its been there ages cause its so expensive.I may be wrong though. He is currently comm within the Koi's tanks. You could get less 20% for discount probably due to its thursday. Mine's the more common RTC but larger than the one in Nilufar though. QUOTE(AiezentX @ Jan 17 2013, 11:36 AM) local fish monster???try get tapah fish (wallago fish)...it kinda cool...if import fish,i dun have idea coz from forum i read,i know u MFK last time...heheheh Ugly lah bro.Yeah used to frequent MFK but lately no time - getting married |

QUOTE(PhisherSam @ Mar 5 2013, 09:01 PM) I can't tell if it's a male or female but I've only had four in total with one surviving - one died due to infection while the other two died as babies. Supposedly those under 12" in length are more susceptible. That being said, Arapaimas under 5ft aren't quite sexually mature so does it matter if male or female? Now that I've gotten Stage 1 of my wedding settled last weekend can finally focus on hobbies as 'pokai' stage is almost over LOL. Hope to FINALLY start rebuilding collection but 5" Arapaimas a bit small and doubt they will go for pellets. Anyway will post pictures of new developments which should see new and improved pond along with other stuff. After honeymoon lah will share more. |

Fly River Turtles also called Pig Nose Turtles and are totally aquatic so very different from terrapins that's for sure.
Mine is quite manja. If I have the time will post a video during feeding. QUOTE(PhisherSam @ Mar 6 2013, 01:10 PM) Haaa? QUOTE(Matthewksexy @ Mar 9 2013, 08:26 PM) Recently gave away four Gars because my Dad happpened to watch them feeding and was horrified. Ranged from over 2ft to one just slightly smaller than my Arapaima.Sayang but he's against using live feeders hence my shift to fishes that go for pellets like the lazy Arapaima who won't take live food anymore when my worker's wife practically hand feeds him. |

QUOTE(Matthewksexy @ Mar 10 2013, 09:10 AM) So far none of the Gars have bitten me or even come close to showing any aggressive behaviour towards me from when they were in grow out tank and even in pond I used to get in with 3ft Gars circling but so long as they don't feel cornered no worries. Around 18" I moved them from tank to pond and during that time in the tank they used to give me room to do water change and cleaning etc. If I take longer than usual they'd come close to sort of reestablish their space (I'm speculating) so a tap on the head to show them who is boss settled that once and for all. |

QUOTE(kakarocht @ Mar 18 2013, 10:47 PM) you need to them when you're young if you buy from lfs then chances is very low from them to eat pellet unless your pellet is diy types which means also made from fish aka like keropok. but i too lazy to diy those pellet cos last time like to go fishing so know what to do actually. Not exactly accurate. I've had Gars from mere inches initially who were raised on feeders - RM10 worth day for a pair increasing as they grew. At the same time, adopted two other Gars one 2ft one over 3ft and all feed live fish. To convert them to pellet based diet it's simple - starve them and soon they will go for pellets but never starve juvenile Gars. As for keli feeders - stay away from them if possible. |
