Terrapin Conservation Project

Now till March 31 here's a chance to contribute towards saving endangered freshwater turtles. Volunteers are needed to monitor nesting turtles and oversee incubated eggs at the Pasir Kumpal river bank. The public is invited to participate in this five-day volunteer programme. The charge is Rm15 per day and covers meals.

This place is so isolated even there's no handphone signals and need to use satelite phone as they said. Sure interesting if we go n camp beside the turtle nest. laugh.gif

I've noticed this too, but not free these few months...

However, i've registered myself for the sea turtle conservation plan which start from May 2006 somewhere in redang for 7 days each session, RM 300 ++, its the same project held by kustem and same professor as the river terrapin conservation plan. do surf through the website here:

Nah, im in the middle of the semester and i dont think i can squeeze in this program tho im so interested of going. Even they are nesting the Keeled Box Turtle. drool.gif One of my collection. hehe. I prefer freshwater turtle than seawater turtle coz its not that expensive to join. laugh.gif rm15 per day vs rm300 for 7 days programme. Eventough its a nice one but i dont have that much of money now. cry.gif I'm just posting this so that other ppl can go if they can. wink.gif

I've seen terrapins in a river near my place (Sungai Kayu Ara) but that was when i am still young. now they are all gone, it's a sad thing to see their habitat being destroyed. Hopefully it wont happen anywhere else.

They do include age as one of the criteria eh ? Well, maybe its not your time this time. Maybe few years later u can join it.

p/s: Anybody know how to get local freshwater turtle ? I got 1 female here and i need a male turtle so that i can start the breeding process.
