To me, it's not iPhone 5 vs GN2. It's just iOS vs Android. No point paying too much attention to the specs as you won't get GN2 with iOS or iPhone 5 with Android.
Besides, you can't say GN2's 1.6Ghz Quad Core is 3.2x faster than iPhone 5's 1.0Ghz Dual Core, because it doesn't work in that way. Same goes to 2GB ram vs 1GB ram; 3100mAh vs 1418 mAh. We have to know that GN2 has 27% higher resolution as compared to iPhone 5, so speaking in a dumb manner, got more things to calculate. So if you wanna compare in respect of specs, please do flex it first. But AFAIK, you can't just flex it like you're doing mathematics. Hey! It's iOS and Android, they can have different way of processing, coding and whatnot.
Notice that there's a topic bout resale value going on. Again, it's unfair to compare the resale value of both directly as they have different starting RRP.
===For Reference Purpose ===
Samsung Galaxy Note N7000
Release Date: Late October 2011 (First)
RRP during launch: RM2299
2nd hand value: RM1200 in average (Just did a rough check in garage sales)
Depreciation per year: RM1099 / 47.80%
iPhone 4S 32GB
Release Date: October 2011 (First, not in Malaysia)
RRP during launch: RM2499
2nd hand value: RM1450 in average
Depreciation per year: RM1049 / 41.98%
Of course there are much more factors that would affect the 2nd hand value, i.e. age of item, condition etc. But based on that 3 y.o. kid calculation I got there, unless RM50 is material for you, else no point talking about resale value.
Moreover, iPhone 5 and GN2, although both are smartphones, have different target audience. Just like MINI Cooper and Camry, both can get you from point A to B, but you just can't say which is better or what, because they are not meant to be for the same target market.
In a nutshell, it's just iOS vs Android. Pick what you like. End of story.
*Not trying to say which is better, just want to say that both are different and you can't compare it.
