so my 11 month old RMBP has finally developed ghosting problems. it occurs when i leave safari on the screen for as short as 5 minutes. do you guys think this qualifies for a replacement?

EDIT : just saw the previous few replies. mine's an LG display so ill take it in soon!

do i need to clean out my RMBP before i send it in? or it's completely fine to leave my files with the service centre?
*
Yes, it should qualify as a replacement. But remember to ask for a Samsung display as a replacement.

Then, I would even advise that you ask the service centre to double / triple check for dead pixels prior to returning it to you. biggrin.gif

haha same case.

maybe u you just call machines first and ask them about the replacement and if they say they can change it for you without a fee then it would be advisable to save your files first especially you dont wanna be the next "Edison Chen" haha kidding  tongue.gif

I would call them first thing in the morning tomorrow.

Hopefully all is okay for us.  rclxms.gif

Yes, better remove all personal files prior to sending to them. You will never know what kind of staff they have behind their closed doors. brows.gif

thanks, ill be sending mine in for service at mac city one utama since i've had better experience with them. sent my apple tv in for replacement and they told me to collect within a week. sent me texts every 2 days to remind me to collect when i delayed as well, haha.
*
Agreed, Mac City is great. I personally have dealt with them before and they actually called me to remind of the repair status every few days like after diagnosis, after ordering of parts, after parts have arrived, etc which I felt is truly excellent SOP. And also, their staff is very humble with great customer-centric attitude. thumbup.gif

is it possible to specifically request for a Samsung display for replacement?
*
To be on the safer side, yes. Can ask them to log the request into your warranty / repair claim details. Like 'Image Retention / Ghosting Defect, Request Samsung Display as replacement'.

As Apple is normally a 'smart' company, I'm pretty sure they would have also cleared all the defected LG displays in their inventory now, and replacing them with Samsung.

However, I did read recently that Samsung would stop their contracts with Apple in 2013. Not sure how true, but if it is, it's really bad news as LG screens normally have poorer colours / brightness / IR defects / etc.

Hi there,

I want to find out (esp photographers). How is the processing performance of Ps and Lr in the 13'' MCB Air compared to the 13'' MCBP? I wanna get a new Mac as my first laptop mainly for mobility as I'm a photographer would wanna edit my pictures when i'm on the go.

Is there a huge difference? Whom should I go for since both Mac's are the same price.
*
Definitely go for MacBook Air 13". It has an SSD which will help tremendously and since your main reason is mobility, it will be perfect.

But how is the processing speed compared to the 13'' mbp? If difference like below 5 sec then no use for me getting the pro over the air.
*
Processing speed won't help much for image editing. Things like SSD, dedicated graphics, screen resolution, and additional cores - are the ones that will really help. biggrin.gif

Same here, a 1st time user. Not used to it at first, but once u get used to it, its a beauty!!!

I m still exploring my macbook, but have definitely learnt some short cuts along the way to make my iOS experience better..
*
OS X experience you mean. nod.gif

Also, if you are in sales line, using a Mac is very impressive and helps to convince potential clients. thumbup.gif

I think should wait a couple months. Haswell just released with better specs, Apple is sure to refresh their macbook lineup.

The Haswell range of MacBooks are expected to be announced in Apple WWDC this month. Just about another week or so to go! Stay tuned! biggrin.gif

just sent it in today. they say they'll need to allow the service centre to run some tests but will get back to me asap. also put in a request for a samsung display and triple checks for dead pixels.
*
Do kindly update us on the status of your claims, like how many days and the condition of the screen you got back. Thanks bro. biggrin.gif

okay...i wish to claim mine too...abit of yellowish compare with samsung screen  sad.gif

Normally, Samsung screens are the ones with the warmer (yellowish) colours. If your LG screen has yellowish colours, then it should be abnormal. hmm.gif

MBP is definitely better without a doubt especially you can do so much more, but for the price you're paying, for the look, the weight, the aesthetic, MBA is a better choice. and for people who already have PC/laptop, MBA will suit them even more
*
To be frank, the MBA 13" can be your one and only main laptop. Used it before and it is powerful as heck due to the SSD. For the MBA 11", you can still use it as your main laptop, but just buy an external monitor to connect to when you are at home. biggrin.gif

My 13" rMBP only shows 3 hours of battery life. Normal ?
*
Try reducing brightness down to a few bars. Totally turn off keyboard backlight or leave it at lowest (one-bar) setting.

Check your CPU usage to see any apps that are heavily using CPU.

Last but not least, I an achieve more than 7 hours usage time on my rMBP 15" with the above settings on Wifi surfing with Google Chrome with multiple tabs (excluding heavy CPU sites like Flash-loaded ones).

But then again, rMBP 13" has lower battery capacity than rMBP 15" so the scenario might not be the same for you.
