The rules of higher SNR and lower attenuation is the key here, if they are installing 4mbps for you I am afraid the speed performance will be below satisfaction.

Yes, you can always ask them to change the cabling from pole to your house, they'll send over the contractor to do the job but with some charges. For a beginning you can replace the splitter and try different modem/router, some ppl find their line quality much improved.

The good technician will advice you the true situation either you are good to proceed or not. Some will just set up for you without really care the overall quality. Laying out new cables will be done by different contractor and not by the the technician. If you are thinking to change the new cable you have to go to TM Point and ask them, they'll assign a new wiring contractor to do the job. Please be remember streamyx technician/installer and wiring contractor are not the same.

the wireless modem will be given during the installation by the technician and yes, the dect phone to be collected from any nearby TM Point to your place.

Put your streamyx login @ customer login.
Look at "J" column, if the result is F, means its fibre infrastructure, if result is "ticked" means its copper infrastructure.

Mine is F all the while since 2010, from what I've been told by someone that the interstate fibre network by TM available in my kampung area, but the purpose is not to serve the local and yes the nearest TM cabinet I can see the printed code started with V (VDSL?). I assumed I am getting good speed with my previous 1mbps, 4mbps and current 8mbps are due to this, copper line from house to cabinet and tumpang fibre to the rest.

I am still using the old TM's D-Link DSL2640B, which is still good till today. I wish they are giving me free new modem instead of the cordless phone as I never used it at all.

Normal if they open the port 4mbps, if they open at 5mbps usually we'll get more than 4mbps.

Anyone has any idea where the problem lies? Is it the port outside or is it TM not resetting my account?

I would say the tech already done his work, check the modem setting, internet, gather the statistic and report back to TM. Installer doesn't have any authority to open the port as it is TM's job resetting it.

Have you signed the blue form yet? it you haven't, do call the assigned tech to your place. They'll contact TM and TM will open the port according to your subscription, if possible ask the tech to open at 5mbps.
