May I know what are the charges for upgrading Streamyx (512kbps to 4mbps)? Is it worth upgrading to 4mbps?

As I said, speedtest.net's ping is not reliable, open up command prompt and do simple ping to lowyat.net or google.com as example, and do use LAN cable, not wifi because it's unreliable.

For local connection, as in, only in Malaysia connection, there should be no difference between these packages using all kinds of IP address.

For international however, really depends on your IP ranges and the route it passes through. AFAIK, different IP ranges will go through different international gateway, as in the local's one, from the local's it will go through to the same international routes.
Right now I'm using 175.144.* IP to do this tracert, as you can see, latency to destination is 235ms on average

Now, if you ping to nimetsu.asia, you might get different latency if you're on different IP range such as 60.54.* and such.

Secondly, if your DSLAM is not using fibre infrastructure, you might have this kind of problem, I have no exact idea why but I used to have the same problem,
previously when I was on 1.5Mbps line, when I'm using 100% downstream bandwidth, my latency will shoot up to 500-600ms, and then I upgraded to 4Mbps, after I upgraded, I did the same thing, using 100% downstream bandwidth, my latency goes almost 1500ms, tripled. Recently TM upgraded DSLAM at my place, my latency no longer shoot up that high whenever I'm downloading.
I've really been enjoying my 4Mbps, things you should know before upgrading, torrent activities are heavy throttled, the rest are fine.

Do they throttle PPS or downloading apps from iTunes?

PPS is using peer-2-peer right? If so, yes.
I have no idea about iTunes, should be no problem as long they're direct download.

Ok thank you very much for the info!

Walked into TM Point to submit my upgrade application on last Friday. They promised to install 4MBPS Streamyx in my house today. Waited for half day still no call from TM contractor.

Decided to call up 100 and I was shocked to be informed that they haven't receive my application from TM Point. How could this happen? I was promised to install Streamyx today and now they say they will send a report and will take another 3 working days. That means I have to take another day off. sad.gif

I am now using 1mbps Streamyx. Should I call up again and ask them to activate immediately?

You can check your order status via 100

If your order is actually submitted, it will be quick

I just called up again. Now they are contacting the TM Point that I submitted my application to verify my application. Minimum 3 working days.

Or

I can cancel my application in TM Point and reapply via 100. Minimum 3 working days as well.

Installation only takes 2-3days, proceed to your nearest TMPoint and ask them about your order.
If they say it's not possible then it is not possible, can't do anything unless they decided to add another DSLAM that nearer to your house which is most likely not happening.

Yes I went to TM Point and a contractor just called me claiming that he had just upgraded the internet to 4mbps but till now the speed test only shows 1.3mbps max.

MonfereBlogspot Same case like me, account updated but port speed still didn't change on their side.

Phone and tell them to send a technician, tell the technician your ADSL speed just 1.5Mbit

Thank you blacktubi Will give them a call tomorrow morning.

I am using Innacomm modem provided by TM. My laptop keeps on getting disconnected but not on my other devices. I suspect the firmware is not up to date but I can't find any firmware of this modem online.

Guys I have a very pressing Issue,

I am currently subscribed to the 4Mbps line which come with free nationwide calls at Rm140/month.

I understand that if I terminate my line there will be a penalty of Rm350.

But When I called TM line at 100, the person tell me There is another charge of penalty of Rm25/mth for my Telephone, so for 8mths left in the contract, I have to pay Rm25x8=200.

Total Rm550, this is absurd, how do i solve this or have anyone ever faced this before?

Kindly advice as I have to settle this by tomorrow as I am moving by Friday.
*
Are you moving to anywhere around Malaysia? If yes what I will do is to request upgrade to UniFi and change the address to new address. Upgrade internet speed doesn't have any penalty charges.

Or what you can do is request TM to move your Streamyx line to new house, maybe there will be installation charges but I don't think there is any penalty for moving houses.

*
For my case I only can get 1.3mbps max. I called 100 but they don't understand what I was trying to tell them. Spent an hour talking to them on the phone in the end I gave up. I tried many ways including walking into TM Point and calling 100 twice a day.

In the end, I contacted the contractor personally. He asked me to wait for 3 days and my internet speed increased to 4mbps on the 3rd day.
