Calling for defender owner..

Planning to buy used defender 110 wagon 300tdi engine but i'm in dilemma now whether to buy or not. I'm worry if I cant afford for the maintenance and repairing cost if got any part problem.. since you have owned the defender, can u share your experience using the landy (cost of repairing/change part/timing belt/engine problem and etc)..

btw,
how do I check the undercarriage from rust? from down side or from the interior.. and how do I know if the diff lock is still working without jack the rear wheel..
