QUOTE(IluvProton @ Oct 2 2012, 11:48 AM) Century egg or pidan (Chinese: 皮蛋; pinyin: pídàn), also known as preserved egg, hundred-year egg, thousand-year egg, thousand-year-old egg, and millennium egg, is a Chinese cuisine ingredient made by preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months, depending on the method of processing. no dont then they will cacth you and say you menghina them Through the process, the yolk becomes a dark green to grey colour, with a creamy consistency and an odor of sulphur and ammonia, while the white becomes a dark brown, translucent jelly with little flavor. The transforming agent in the century egg is its alkaline material, which gradually raises the pH of the egg to around 9, 12, or more during the curing process.[1] This chemical process breaks down some of the complex, flavorless proteins and fats, which produces a variety of smaller flavorful compounds. Some eggs have patterns near the surface of the egg white that are likened to pine branches, and that gives rise to one of its Chinese names, the pine-patterned egg. ![]() I wan to bring my meleis frend go eat pei tan chikin bubur + salted vege but halal or not ? better dont you have been warned |

You have to wonder at the curiosity of ancient people finding the technique and the will to eat a black egg for the first time.

It all happened like this in long long ago times, chinese of the teochew clan used to rear ducks at their backyard which happens to be their open toilet too. them were amazed some eggs collected tasted somewhat different not good, but pungent and somewhat still edible. later they found out those eggs were accidentally soaked in their urine they eat those good eggs and sold those urine eggs to the market as medicine eggs. surprisingly, the marketing plan worked. thereafter they purposely soak those eggs in urine |
