anyone know whether using intel 975xbx motherboard you can overclock the Pentium D 920 to that of D930. I used to see one article in tomshardware that can do it. Anyone can give a fool proof way to overclock ? biggrin.gif

Yeah, I'm eager to upgrade my rig to the 920 / 930 too. I called Cycom today and confirm that the 920 is RM 990, which is VERY CLOSE to U.S. Prices. However, Intel announced that they'll reduce their prices on 23rd April making the 920 (2.8GHz Dual core) US$207 and the 930 (3.0GHz) at US$241. Some sites even publish that the 3.0 price will be the same as the 2.8 in April (i.e. US$207 = RM 800!!!) It is certainly worth a wait. Maybe if you all are interested, I can organise a bulk. I got contact in U.S. who can ship the procs over. smile.gif

Intel's 975 Mobo will have to option to OC. This is the 1st time I have seen an Intel board with OC-ing features.

Best way is to ask Intel. Anyone know the telephone number of intel penang's office technical engineer for motherboard enquiries ? I would like to get them to answer some question. Please help.
By the way, I read another article in Star saying that PC motherboard like 975XBX is actually designed in Penang by one Penang Chap. Anyone happen to know him ?
Any Penang folk from intel here ?

Anyone with this baby pls post your oc result. notworthy.gif
I'm considering buying D920/D930 or Opty165/A64 x2 3800+. Need to see the oc result first. Opty 165 can easily go over 2.5GHz which is more than 25% oc. If this baby can give 30% oc, sure I'll go for it.

Actually I want to ask for the tel number and contact person for Intel Malaysia that can answer question on motherboard like 975XBX.
Questions can be asked in many way but not all are related to Overclocked. Any help appreciated rolleyes.gif

Anyhow, I managed to find out that someone has tried and successfully overclocked their 975XBX motherboard but while I am using pentium D920 (2.8Mhz) the report is based on Pentium 840EE (3.2GHz, 800FSB, Dual-Core, 2x1MB L2, HT).
I would be using Pentium D 920 and ddr2 557Mhz and I wish to increase the processor from 2.8Mhz to say 3.4Mhz (like Pentium 950). and FSB to 800Mhz.
cool.gif

Oh I am a newbie in oveclocking so if anyone can give me a foolproof step by step guide I would most probably buy you a SPA treat. drool.gif

alritie. got confirmation from anandtech that the mobo is from INTEL and it's one of the first intel mobo that allows o/c

so, now u r asking how to o/c?

read the pin-ups thread in the o/c forum. period.

dun expect to be spoonfed.

and we expect those who purchase high end procs should at least know the basics of o/cing

I've seen this board in the labs with Crossfire as well. It allows overclocking either from bios or from IDCC (Intel's own software). There's a burn-in option in the software to allow OC on the fly. Be wary though, warranty due to burnt CPUs/boards might not be entertained.

I'm thinking of buying D920 or x2 3800. x2 3800 is known to be able to oc beyond 2.5GHz. So need feedback on D920 before I make the final decision.

As far as i know, D9xx series run much cooler than D8xx series since it's 65nm and using lower vcore. If it can go beyond 4.2GHz (50% oc) with high end air, I will go for it. drool.gif

if your X2 can do 2.7ghz, are u really gonna run that as your everyday setting? sweat.gif
even the 4.4ghz on the Pentium, i'm pretty sure that's only for benching

so if you're comparing performance, compare on stock, or on slightly overclocked settings instead
IMO of course biggrin.gif

For me if at 4.4Ghz is stable enough for daily use. I'd let run full load 24/7 with folding.. wink.gif

And my P4 3.8Ghz able to do 4.3Ghz on air, 24/7 folding. Now waiting for bwan to return it. smile.gif

for non-folders, it wouldnt make a difference, other than taking more energy
guess its also a matter of preference

Yes, I fold. So stable oc does mean a lot to me. Dual core is really great for folders as we can do other stuff on one core and fold on the other core.

On stock, x2 3800+ sure win over D920. My concern is whether a D920@4.2GHz can beat 3800+@2.7GHz or not.

the X2 would have been overclocked by 900mhz, that's 50% over its stock speed
the 920 would have been overclocked by 1.4ghz, that's also 50%

since the X2 wins on stock, i'm guessing it'll win on those settings too?
just my guess la tongue.gif

btw, dont u guys take in power consumption when choosing procs? sweat.gif

Overclocking Pentium D!!???!!?!?

OMG, it is a toaster. I guess ur mobo cant stand with the heat and the
high power consumption at peak over a long period.

Ur mobo is the 1st thing to die.

most of the Pentium processor start throtling at 65C. Just keep under the temperature will be fine. Good Luck.

I guess not, especially when you are buying a desktop chip. If you are getting a chip for your laptop then you have to take into account for battery life and heat.

But for a desktop, no! Free flowing from the wall socket and my PC isn't going anywhere - my PC + Mach 2 GT weighs a TON! ehhehehe

After some survey through google, I believe this is a great oc chip. Can easily go beyond 4GHz with air cooled. Somemore it is RM300 cheaper than x2 3800

OMG, it is a toaster. I guess ur mobo cant stand with the heat and the
high power consumption at peak over a long period.

Ur mobo is the 1st thing to die.

most of the Pentium processor start throtling at 65C. Just keep under the temperature will be fine. Good Luck.

8pin 12V for this motherboard is really required to fully utilize it..

compared to previous P4 530(that procs kong edi sweat.gif) and A64 3000+ venice..
P4 530 vs Pentium D 805 not much diff.. just with 805 multitasking is really3x syiok.. much better.. lag free in every task in OS.. biggrin.gif and much more overclockable.. venice in multitasking is quite bad i can say..
but gaming, 3dmark, superPI, both intel lose to simple 3000+ venice.. believe me..

No one own a Pentium D 920 yet ? I want to know how much OC room this CPU line has. If can OC pass 4GHz, it would be a great bargain.

davidhomestudio, time for you to get a new board if u want to oc.
AFAIK, intel 945 board doesn't have OC option.
