I have Singapore credit card and I use it in Brunei to pay for my meal. I thought no currency conversion since BND is peg with SGD. Turns out I was charge this cross border transaction fee for every transaction

0.8% border fees still lower than the currency exchange right?
normally i saw currency exchange admin fees is about 1.x%.

am I wrong?

sorry, abit confuse. Do you mean:
if buy in RM - got charge cross border fees 0.8%
if buy in other currency - got charge cross border fees 0.8%+ 2.5% currency exchange?

For other currency there's no cross border fees. It only apply when the gateway is in a foreign country while the transaction is in RM.

I wonder if banks only charge 0.8% to selected website only? It shouldn't be that case right? But I'm been using HLB Wise to purchase from 2 Korean website, non of them charging extra than initial conversion amount. I can see the different (additional charges) when using CIMB card.

Reporting no cross border fee when purchase Xiaomi using HLB Wise...i can safely assume HLB Wise won't charge cross border fee. But I would prefer to find cards that give some reward like cashback or points yet not charging cross border fee, any idea?

i am concern about the currency exchange rate now. which bank has the lowest rate, anyone? most of my online purchase are in foreign currencies.  and to clarify, if i am buying something from Amazon.com, the bank only charge me currency exchange right? since i pay USD.

last time i tired, paying using paypal and direct using credit card seems to be at the same rate, which is paypal's rate (much higher)

Is buying air tickets thru Expedia in RM considered local purchase or foreign? If in local RM does it attract "cross border fee"?

paypay usd rate is around 0.25 to RM1 the few other times i paid using paypaly that is linked to my HLB card
the other day tried paying direct using ambank credit card, same rate

both are on ebay items

any difference if i pay an ebay item using paypal (that is linked to my CC) or directly checkout using CC?

so far i tried both methods, i paid the same rate on both occasions

am i doing this right? could i have saved more using a method that you guys know and i dont? biggrin.gif
