Actual dyslexia is much wider than basically complicated or transposing characters, for example mistaking ”b” and “d".
In common, signs of DRD may include:
Difficulty identifying the meaning (idea content) of a easy sentence
Difficulty learning to identify written words
Difficulty rhyming
DRD may happen along with writing or mathematical studying issues.

My dyslexia mostly effects reading and math. For reading, sometimes i transpose words and letters. For math, I copy numbers wrongly.. I did pretty badly in SPM (Only 5 A's) because my dyslexia was pretty much disturbing me. As an adult, it gets more managable. Because you can do thing by your own, in university I can learn the way I want.. No need to copy word by word what my lecturer says, unlike school. I still have issues with money though. Because I can't count well, (C+ for math in SPM), I tend to overspend and lose money (also very careless). No mater how hard i try to budget, it'll end up sort of cash at the end of the month. This even happened while I was on a scholarship in uni for my diploma. Thats a few issues i faced

Hi guys, Im suspecting my niece to be dyslexic. I want to bring her to Dyslexic Centre in Shah Alam and arranged an appointment with coordinator. However on that date I was running late as I need to prepare 3 children, and we miss our appointment. The coordinator seems not helpful enough to arrange second appointment.
Is there any Doctor, hospital or clinic I can refer to for dyslexia assessment?

Hi abubin, Eventually we managed to get an appointment with Dyslexia Malaysia (shah alam). Done with the assessment and yes, my niece have dyslexia. Now the whole family know that the kid has dyslexia. My priority now is to understand this kid's perspective and think of interactive and interesting way to teach her. We'll enroll her in dyslexia programmed run by the Org. So we'll see how it goes from there.

Hi all, You can get in touch with Dyslexia Malaysia. Please add them and I'm sure they can help with any form of info regarding dyslexia. They have classes for kids who may have the learning difficulty. https://www.facebook.com/dyslexia.malaysia?fref=tsRecently one of their supporters is embarking on a Guinness world record to fly solo around the world. James Anthony Tan and he's a dyslexic. http://rage.com.my/content/stories/soaring-solo/https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=101...&type=1&theater

Hi, I have a 7 year old daughter who is dyslexic. Recently we enrolled her into the kidsgrow fastforward program. It was intensive 3 month program. She showed some improvement, but not remarkable. Now she with seed in setia alam for the reading program. I find her reading seems to have improved, from the combination of constant coaching from my wife, fastforward and seed. Her primary Chinese school had also identified her for linus. but somehow, she does not like reading. It's a struggle for her. We hope overtime she can over come this.

QUOTE(Mr_47 @ Sep 18 2013, 03:21 PM) can share some of your niece dyslexia problem. thx. With numbers upside down, more like mirror image. When asked why, she said the teacher write it on the blackboard. We all know that no teacher would never do that. She even sit at the front row (due to her parent's request). One more, she has difficulty arranging days in a week. ex: What comes after Friday, she will answer Monday. When asked why, her answer is : teacher says "See you on Monday!". Dyslexic children tends to think and process the information much more different than normal ppl. However they are much more smarter than you could think. QUOTE(abubin @ Sep 19 2013, 10:31 AM) how about sharing some tips on what they teach the dyslexic student or any tips that can be used at home? I suggest you to get help from dyslexic centre. One tip tho, don't see the world as we used to see it. See it from dyslexic point of view. Sometimes their way of thinking is correct but we see it as weird because its out of norm. Don't get easily tired to explain to them how the world works, lead them to a normal social interaction. Watching TV will never be a quite one, you'll bombarded with so much questions.

Just to update. My daughter now is capable to read and even spell correctly in English. But being in Chinese school - I am beginning to give up. Chinese school is not the right environment for dyslexia. My wife is right. As math, science is taught in Chinese, and she refuse to learn/communicate in Chinese, she has missed out a lot. We are thinking of sending her to international school now. Why not private? Her BM is also a struggle. As for memory - she could memorize Chinese characters very well for her Chinese dictation. She used to get zero for dictation, but now, she succeeded in getting a few 100%. The technique I used was with a mini whiteboard, tablet and Hanping Pro (Google play store). Hanping Pro is a good Chinese learning tool, where she can write the words with her finger, learn how it is spoken and read its translation. Its quite strange that she sometimes cannot understand the Chinese dictation, and asked for the English translation of it - she could just translate the English word back to Chinese.

There are lenses to help improve dyslexia, if anyone is interested to try, i can help arrange with my hospital friends. Consultation is free but need to make appointment to check and test with the lens.
