Can i ask a couple of questions that has been bugging me?

If i use titanium backup to backup my apps when i am on ics, when upgrade to jb (whenever samsung releases it), can i still restore? Wont the installation be a little bit different due to upgrade from ics to jb? Unless the backbone is so minor that it makes no difference?

Also, if i use recovery to do a nandroid backup, is it specific to only my s3 when i choose to restore? Will it work if i do it on another s3? Something like ghosting to another device? I.e. (i hope i dont get into this quandary) if i need to replce my s3 with another s3, will i get an exact clone or will restore fail because its a different device?

1st question is yes , u can restore using TB . Some of my apps are from froyo days but of course it got updated along the way . However , RESTORE ONLY APPS + DATA , not system data .

2nd question , tried it before on SGS2 . Didnt work . Stop trying so I'm not sure if it works or not but it should work as long as its the same device .

Noobi3: Thanks for the explaination and advice. At least now i am a bit clearer on the issue. biggrin.gif

Wow. Bad day today. I must take really good care of my s3 for the next few days. Bad luck week?

I heard MYR599 to replace the screen. There are videos on the internet if you are gung ho about changing it yourself....

My bad. I thought yours was the whole screen and full casing front and back so more expensive than just glass and front of phone only.

seems just a sp, i hope the screen have another layer of plastic (thicker than a normal sp that can protect from scratch / damage if drop screen first..
*
Not sure about kraken's sp. The sp that came with my trident aegis was normal sp. I felt kraken to bulky, so i got aegis. Sturdy enough for normal use, not too flimsy that you worry about its protective capabilities and not so bulky that it becomes an inconvenience in my pants pocket.

FELLOW LOWYAT android users.

Here is your chance for a FREE paid version of MyBackUp pro. This is not pirated warez so don't worry nod.gif

So hurry now and claim your Pro version for this app before the 500 keys get used up  icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm testing it and seems pretty good  nod.gif  apparently the beta version has a root mode now  cool.gif

Thanks a lot for the link. Managed to download install and verify. So far still within 500. Haha.
Havent tested the backup function yet. thought will install first, get the free version. Will test the backup later when free.

Redistribute the activation code without the maker/owner/developer permission still considered act of piracy doh.gif

Even though if we quote a legal internet public access article? Wow. I didnt know that. I thought that if it was a publicity drive by the company then it should be free access? Still noob at this.

Hm my review of it so far.

i think still prefer titanium backup pro because....

1. you can use dropbox to 1 way sync backup to. mybackup is limited to online syncing to their own cloud, which is capped at 1gb unless you want to pay for more space
2. it doesn't re-do the entire backup unnecessarily. it will skip stuff that hasn't changed, and only update backup for modified data only. mybackup pro can't do this from what i've seen.
3. i prefer the gui interface of titanium backup
with that said, the mybackup app here is a beta app. so the final may look different. also at the end of beta, the 500 users who activated with the promo key get the pro version for free including that 1 gb storage. free for a normally paid app is good... also who knows in the future they may get as good as titanium backup.

*
Thanks for the summary. Was wondering whether it is any better than TB. having said that, its always good to have a backup of a backup. Even though TB sounds better, another backup cant possibly hurt. Right? tongue.gif

i m trying to backup my data now. it says "local backup has been disabled for now" anyone knows why?
*
This is beta, only allows online. To test their server. So we are guinea pigs. hehe. Apparently after beta version, we will get full version with sd card capabilities.

Anyone knows when does beta become pro version?

yeh, also like i said, who knows, in the future maybe mybackup will one day be just as good as titanium backup. it's already half way there so it's not that impossible  nod.gif
I didn't know this, because i didn't use it to backup locally, seeing as titanium backup already did that so i didn't want to create duplicate files on my limited storage space on my phone. good info anyway  nod.gif

Agreed. I believe in the saying that "Good things for cheap is excellent but good things for free is even better" Hahaha. rclxms.gif

i noticed one thing about the beta mybackup pro that annoyed the hell out of me....

example.... when i perform a backup to online storage, i cannot minimize the screen and do something else.... or else it will cancel the backup/upload process..... which is retarded because titanium backup doesn't have this issue  hmm.gif

*
I did not know that. I just backed up one app just to make sure it was working so it was pretty fast. Didnt want to burn my data allocation doing backup on mobile so can only do a proper backup with home wifi.

u only can backup the installed programs. but not the data. so no saved games.
I was surfing the FAQ earlier today and they had this statement

- Can MyBackup backup the data specific to my other applications?

We can not get the applications data because of security built into Android. But we have provided developers the ability to integrate with us and some are beginning to do this. If you would like any application to have the ability to be backed up by MyBackup Pro, you may want to contact the developers of such applications and have them contact us for instructions on how to integrate with us.

Or, if you root your device, you will be able to backup all applications data\settings.

Not sure how to interpret it? hmm.gif
Does it mean rooted phones can save data? I havent tried to restore so I dont really know.

250mb a month enough? you muct be control the usage vy well then...
*
Its not too bad. I was on it (the maxis $30 250MB package) for quite awhile. As long as you dont utube and google play download, you are fairly ok. Used it mainly for email and whatsapp.

But now am on a higher allocation because bought my s3 with their 24 month contract so less worryand less looking over my shoulders at my data usage so my quality of life much much improved. Hahaha.

I totally agree with you. My Nokia has been abused so much that it's incredible that only the battery gave up. otherwise can bring to jungle n will come out in a great shape. Haha.
