Question: i check my s3 memory storage, there's only stated "available memory": 11gb+, used memory: less than 1gb. Means total my phone memory only 12-13gb?

The digi fella told me it's 16gb one!

hi, newbie here in custom rom world, thinking of trying wanamlite custom rom in my s3, so before i makes any mistake, here i list down step by step in what i have read and understand from this forum and xda developer :
my phone condition : currently flash to samsung stock rom jelly bean xxdli8

1.goto here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238) download cf-root 6.4 & odin3-v1.85
2.unzip both files
3.start odin3
4click pda button, select cf-root-sgs3-vX.X.tar
5.put phone in download mode (vloumn down+home+power).
6.collect phone to pc
7.have to make sure repartition is not checked
8.click start
9.wait for phone to reboot
10.done and consider root successfully
11.so after above settle and phone can switch on, i need download wanamlite latest rom here (http://wanamlite.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=6868)
12.install cwm recovery (should already have when root just now?)
13.wipe data / factory reset ? do i need to do other wipe like ‘wipe cache’ / ‘wipe dalvik cache’, is it necessary ?
14.flash the wanamlite rom
15.reboot.
any step i miss out and wrong ?
*
Bro, do u mind that I pm u to ask to something regarding the custom rom?
I'm really new on this matter. Not yet try, so my s3 still a "virgin" (come with the original ICS). icon_question.gif

not insulting you or anything, but out of curiosity what hp phone was that  hmm.gif

personally if it was me i'd probably do the same. i'd have a place holder android 2012 phone (free) until 2013 or 2014 for the next phone which would last a good 5 years better compared to 2012 as good as it is :}

Does anyone ecounter this:

playing games for just >5mins. (hell gate - the zombie shooting one),
the device start feel heat (at the back [battery] and screen area).

note my s3 still haven't upgrade or flash any firmware.

And I played FM2012 handheld version for around 1hour, battery % from 100 ->70%...

Is it normal or?

and how to solve this prob (if possible), is it need to upgrade the stock filmware?

some games draw more processing power than others. esp if the game is not coded well. when processor is in load, of course it will produce heat. so it's normal.

i played a stupid board game can drain more battery than modern combat 3. poorly coded apps.

so, u play 1 hour.. u expect to only drop 1%?? 100% -> 99%??
30% for an hour of FIFA looks very normal to me.
*
it's not fifa, but football manager, with less graphic. just click click click. Anyway, the 2nd question I think still ok for me, i mean battery consumption matter, but the heat matter... well, mayb as what u say, the apps prob? haha

2. correct me if i'm wrong, AMOLED burn in issues are very normal for every amoled screens that are old. usually AMOLEDs will start to burn-in after 3-5 years.

Bro, batt life will be great only after flash the updated firmware(Either stock or custom)? Correct me if im wrong..

Nearly every one using it including me. Stock one is very good but I did customized it a little and it was great!
Battery life is great without much motivation. However there are many custom Rom that offer great battery life.

Finally I took 1st step to root my s3!!

was trying CF-Root method. every guideline was followed but whn switch on my phone, I didn't see CWM manager and SuperSU installed!!!

here the step I did:
1. Go to Settings. -done
2. Click on About device. -done
3. Find out your SGS3 Model number. Make sure that it’s GT-I9300 or GT-I9300T. -done
4. Then power off your phone. -done
5. Press and hold down Volume Down + Home + Power buttons at the same time. -done
6. Press Volume Up button when warning prompt. -done
7. Odin download mode will be loaded. >>is this means just open the Odin?<< -done
8. Connect USB cable to your phone. -done
9. At PC, extract CF-Root .tar file that you downloaded to CF-Root folder. -done
10. Then bring up Odin3. -what this mean?
11. Click on PDA. -done
12. Select the .tar at CF-Root folder. -done
13. Click Start then. -done
14. Remove USB cable from your phone when you see green PASS! at Odin3. -done
!!!!15. After Android loaded, you should see CWM Manager and SuperSU installed. -NO CWM AND SUPERSU INSTALLED!!

so do I consider rooted or?

Pls help... new to rooting and flash stuffs... =/

if there's no superSU installed = no root.

Last time when i first rooted my phone, it had superSU but no CWM. I didn't realise it until a few weeks later when i needed to use CWM.

What i did was i just re-root my phone using the same method, and my phone finally had CWM.

So what i'm trying to say is that i suggest you should try rooting again smile.gif
*
Okay!! gv me 10mins and i will come back.. god bless me. lol

Added on September 23, 2012, 3:14 amOkay finally I did it! Thanks God!

next, finding a good firmware (custom or stock) for my s3!!

Any suggestion? my main concern is improve life battery. haha!

First,  pressing power+home+volume down button brings up into.'download mode', where this is the first time u root, it's using stock recovery.  Odin is the windows program where u used to flash Odin recovery replacing the stock recovery

1. First open the Odin in windows
2. Go into download mode ''press the three button''
3. Once in the screen should write 'downloading' then connect the usb. Then Notice the windows Odin, there will be a box that turns green, hence connected.
4. Then choose CF-root in pda then start.

Something like that. The Odin windows must turn green only successful connected.  smile.gif

If cannot try to root again

Ok, now my serious question.

I was rooted my s3 and still stick with stock ICS (nvr flash any custom/stock firmware just because waiting for official JB! and thanks God, finally it released).

So should I un-root it and flash the official JB by using Odin (PC) or just flash it with rooted s3?

(*according to conversation at page 40 among the sifus and drumhitz bro:
drumhitz bro s3 was rooted and using siyah kernel on stock ICS. and the sifuss here suggest just flash the official JB without un-root)

So my case stil the same or?

Thanks in advance.

Rick (25-9-2012 1:20am) icon_question.gif

just flash it, it doesnt care if you root or not, after your flash it using Odin, you will loose root,

p/s: NEVER go and wipe you data directly after flashing using odin, install CF -root first then do the wipe if you want,

direct wipe after flashing odin will wipe your internal SD card files too
*
Ok thank you silentser bro.

B4 flash it, I should backup my data with titanium backup (free) right?

then start flash. I will try to use this method: thanks to Jayce Ooi sifu

after I flash, what should i do?

Can you roughly tell me what should I do b4 and after I flash the official JB?

Sorry for questioning much. =/

before flash, backup, with titanium or nandroid or both, make sure your ALL contacts are all sync to google, and your sms have been backup using sms backup and restore app, and your whatsapp chats are backup.

get your cf-root ready (the one that need to flash using odin, not the CWM type),get your firmware ready.

there are 2 way to do here,

1. no wipe (im assuming this firmware would not auto wipe, and the firmware could boot without wipe).

open odin , open up the firmware into PDA slot-> phone boot download mode -> stick in the usb ->flash -> wait phone to boot**** -> flash cfroot -> done

***if after like 10 minutes your phone still stuck at the samsung logo follow number 2
2. wipe. (recommended by people alwiz)

open odin , open up the firmware into PDA slot-> phone boot download mode -> stick in the usb ->flash -> wait phone to boot then shutdown/if stuck at logo pull battery out -> flash cf-root ->boot recovery -> wipe data ->reboot ->restore your data using titanium/nandroid

Actually depends on the consultant that day one la. Like me, last time my BB keypad cannot function, went to celcom center (I signed celcom plan), they 1-1 exchange.

And my maxis line, I was terminated the line but they still bill me, I went to Pyramid branch, the ret*rded consultant said they can't do anything, must pay full amount (400+!!). Lukcily I didn't pay and go to Klang branch, this time is a pretty lady serve me, and I explain the same thing like what I told to pyramid one, and the pretty lady immediately help me to appeal for waive the amount. ends up I just need to pay 1month (RM50).

What I'm trying to say is, malaysia customer service line most are same one, have to depends on ur luck, see whether can meet a REAL CS or those malas malas nowan work one. and one more thing, be GARANG, this could help u in advance, but of course if pretty lady no nid so garang la.. brows.gif
