I can't decide on whether to sell my 7.7 and keep my N7 or vice versa.  I don't need the back camera.. Just the 3G factor
*
How important is having 3G on the go to you? If it is very important, just keep the 7.7. There was a rumour that a 3G N7 version may be coming out, but that that rumour seems to have died for now. BUT, if it's true, then you can get that. Wait a month or so more before you decide. The 7.7 is a very good tablet as it is. Wait a month more, and if you decide to sell the 7.7 then, I think you can still sell the 7.7 for enough money to cover the cost of a new N7. So don't rush.

Yes, I have a iPhone but only 250MB data per month and for some reason the 4S uses LARGE amounts of data. I currently am using the RM18 for 1GB plan for my Tab.

I like the fact that the N7 is lighter and it runs on JB. Also, the N7 would be the first to get any new updates. Back camera (since I never use the back camera on my Tab) and no expandable memory is not an issue for me. Don't even need super amoled. Just sharpish screen would do. It's just the 3G that's bothering me!

I don't really play games. I generally use my Tab to read ebooks, check emails and surf the net.

I ordered 2 units from US. My initial plan was to give one to my hubby and decide on the second unit later but I think I need to make a decision soon before the price drops further tongue.gif

Sell the Nexus 7s. Enjoy your 7.7. Wait a month or so and see whether the Nexus 7 3G version will come. If not, just buy back another Nexus 7 luuu.. now they are readily available in Malaysia, so no prbs getting one again.

Anyone know where to get 7 inch tablet sling bag in lowyat. Hate carrying a messenger bag just for my nexus 7
*
A sling bag specifically for 7" tablets will be hard to find, if not impossible. In any event, IMHO, such a bag may look like a woman's handbag or purse leh! Maybe you could just go for a sling bag specifically made for 10" tablets. Then won't look so bad... hehehe. Easier to find also and you will have a little bit of extra space for cables and USB drives. But this is just my personal opinion lah... no hard feelings, ok?

Wah seh... had to send my N7 back to the SC for the THIRD time yesterday. Was experiencing random touch screen unresponsiveness. This is the 2nd replacement LCD.

1st time, send in on 23rd Aug for screen lifting and screen flickering issues.
They replaced the LCD and I collected it on 19th Sept. On the spot/same day sent it back in for the 2nd time as the touchscreen was totally screwy. Unresponsive and registering touches wrongly.
They replaced the LCD again and I collected it on 4th Oct. From 6th Oct onwards, I started experiencing sporadic/random screen unresponsiveness. Sent it back yesterday, 8th Oct.

This time I requested for a whole new unit replacement. But they told me, usually, only after failure to repair for a 3rd time will they replace new unit. Damn sianz already. Made some noise, grumbled and complained. The girl (quite SYT oso biggrin.gif) checked with the Manager. Manager agreed to replace. He said "should be" able to give new replacement but will contact me in two days time. In any event, even if replace new unit, they will need 1 week plus to 2 weeks as they themselves have to get it from distributor(???). I said, fine, ok, acceptable. But told him MUST contact me in 2 days as promised. Don't leave me hanging by my balls for 2 weeks.

I really do hope they give me a new replacement unit and not disappoint me further. Otherwise, there will be hell to pay.

All these might not happen if u did not cancel your pre-order from asus mid valley and get a local set.
*
Hahaha... perhaps perhaps. But what makes you think I may not experience the same shit with a local set? They all come from the same factory whaaat. In fact, even if I get a new replacement unit, I may STILL experience some shit or another. Who knows? Maybe the Nexus 7 is jinxed for me leh....?

By the way, did you get yours?

your story is scary to me as i am still waiting Asus to repair my unit.
i sent to Asus because my device is unable to boot up, it will keep restart at google word when i trying to turn on when power plug in. sent asus on 24 sept.
Asus say they already replace new motherboard for me but they say got problem with the LCD as well, need to replace.
HOWEVER, during my usage, i did not experience any screen problem or the flickering issue , i wondering how come problem happen on my LCD. they say need wait for 3 weeks from now for the LCD part arrive because they using ship cargo.

i have a doubt, is it possible they took my LCD to replace on your unit?
your unit is LCD failure only or motherboard as well? they did change motherboard for you?
*
Bro, don't think so much la... haha. But it's strange that they are replacing the LCD too. Did you ask them exactly what is wrong with the LCD?

But I doubt they need 3 weeks for the LCD part to arrive... trying calling again after a week and see what they say then. Play stupid.

And no, I don't think they used your LCD as a replacement for mine. No reason to do that.

Mine was a LCD problem (at least that was what they told me), not motherboard. But your problem seems likely to be a motherboard problem.

can change back to stock recovery flash the update and flash back cwm?

will changing back to stock recovery wipe my device?
*
If you are using mskip's Google Nexus 7 ToolKit v2.0.0, it has an option for you to flash back stock recovery. Then later flash back CWM or TWRP. Option 6 in the interface.

Anyway, this is some info I got from a quick googling:-

1. I think OTA update will wipe out your root. If you want to TEMPORARILY unroot and then restore root later, apparently should use an app called OTA Rootkeeper (it doesn't really unroots, just hides the root in the system). Available free on Play Store. But may not work all the time or may not work on certain devices. Worst case scenario is you lose root after OTA update.
2. If you are on stock recovery, OTA flashing should proceed as normal. If you are on CWM or other custom recovery, apparently you need to turn off something called signature verification.

Anyway, read more here:

i turned off the signature verification already.
but still get the same error.

i could do the whole return to stock, try ota, or folo steps use adb update
but i feel the trouble is not worth.
my stock is running smooth without any problem.
landscape homescreen is pointless since i use nova.
not worth the trouble. i'll pass this update.

Try flashing stock recovery first. If you are using mskip's Google Nexus 7 ToolKit v2.0.0, it has an option for you to flash back stock recovery. Then later flash back CWM or TWRP. Option 6 in the interface. Easy peaasy...

As for turning off signature verification, apparently sometimes it may appear to be off by default. Some users were advised to click on it anyway. If it turns on, turn it back off.

I see. No wonder just now I can't find any display unit. Any shop has display unit?

Guaranteed got display unit will be at Low Yat. Rather far from 1U I know. But if you go to Low Yat, go to this shop called "Hotspot". Ground floor. It's at a corner. Heaps of display units there.

I also looked for display set. None of them available.

Went to Senq and asked why don't have display unit, they said because they don't have many. but the staff there was so nice, he went inside and brought one unit.  rclxms.gif  biggrin.gif Played with it for a while. Now waiting for my next pay check to buy it rclxm9.gif
*
Ya, I suspected that was the reason for there not being any display units too.

hi do you guys think it is worth to wait for the 32gb version? read from news that 16gb is eol and will be replaced by the 32gb version with the same price.
*
It won't be the end-of-line for the 16GB. More like it may be end-of-line for the 8GB. It's more likely the 16GB will be sold at the original 8GB price and the 32GB sold at the original 16GB price. So, if you want to wait, you can wait... either buy the 16GB at cheaper price or the 32GB at the original 16GB pricing.

But dunno wait until when ler....

QUOTE(supernothing @ Oct 12 2012, 10:38 AM)
guys,

anyone been to asus service center and send their device for deadpixel and loose screen? did they take it as faulty and RMA the device?

i have dead pixel and loose screen. just want to ask before i send it to them.
*
They won't RMA outright if what you mean by "RMA" is "Return Merchandise Authorisation" i.e one to one replacement. If you send to Asus SC, they will try repairing it first, which would include replacement of parts, where necessary. AFAIK, if the problem persists after 3 times sending in for repairs, only then will they replace your tablet with a new unit for you.

HOWEVER, if you purchased it from an authorised retailer/reseller here in Malaysia and you discovered the problem within the first 7 days of purchase, Asus authorises an automatic one to one replacement for you. Bring your receipt and defective unit to Asus SC to double confirm this (within 7 days). If ok, they will tell you to go back to the retailer/reseller you bought from, and ask for one to one exchange (also within the 7-day period, I think). But check with the Asus SC on one very important thing: "If the shop refuse, how???". Ask them what is the procedure or who you or the shop should contact at the Asus SC (ask what number to call) if that happens.

One more thing, if you looking for one to one replacement, bring the box and everything else that came with it with you (documentation, charger, cable, etc).

Still within 7 days for you? Time to move your ass... LOL

I found 1 dead spot on my screen after 2 days of purchase.
I went back to the shop and they change me a new unit rclxms.gif

I would say just go back to the shop and ask for 1 to 1 exchange cool.gif
*
Yes, perhaps just head straight back to the shop first and ask. If they refuse, then you should go to the SC and find out what's happening. Bring the shop's and/or the shop's staff name and contact number with you to the SC in that situation. Just in case SC wants to call up that shop and speak to the person who attended to you or the shop's boss.

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Oct 12 2012, 03:16 PM)
Bear in mind, christmas or holiday sales/price drop will only happen in US. It won't happen in Malaysia even if it does and drop to a very low price.
*
This is not about sales price drop *just* for the holiday season. It is not a "sales". We are talking about the actual RRP of the current model dropping because of a new model. For now, 16GB in US is selling for USD249 and over here, it is RM999. If the 16GB RRP becomes USD199 and the new 32GB sells for USD249, don't you think the RRP here in Malaysia would follow the switch in prices? The references to the holiday season in that article merely talks about people buying the N7 for Xmas and that one should wait because there are strong rumours about a new 32GB model which may go for the same price as the 16GB model now, and Google is highly likely to launch the 32GB within this month to take advantage of people shopping for Xmas.

At the very least, the 16GB price would drop here in Malaysia. It is one thing to sell at RM999 when the directly converted RRP is RM760, but it is quite another if the Malaysian price remains at RM999 when the directly converted RRP later becomes RM608. The following notion is possible: New 32GB will sell for RM999 here in Malaysia and the 16GB price would then drop to RM849 or RM799 or something.
