Anyone with connections should make another fishing workshop at cyberjaya lake. Its off limits for fishing, but they do held fishing competition there.

The pacu there is 5 - 10 kg easily. The pacu there eat bread like nobody's business. drool.gif

Other fishes like patin, haruan and toman also is released there. rclxms.gif

The further the fishing location, doesn't mean the fish gets bigger and more bite rates. *true story* tongue.gif laugh.gif

Batang berjuntai I'll park my car by the main road or the fruit valley place and cycle in man! The holes are huge!

Queenfish about 800grams to 1.5kg quite good eating leh. Do it YAU ZHANG style. Nice smile.gif

For me its a no no to bring back any queenfish, you can fill up your ice box with better quality eating fish for the money you pay on the boat.

but if its fresh, still better than most fish you can find at the supermarket lah laugh.gif

Hi Everyone,
Im new here and im not really familiar with all fishing thingy. So I hope that i am in the right thread, and hopefully you all can guide me  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif .

I want to learn casting fishing (like fishing a snake-head or toman?)

So here are the things that i want your expertise

1) Reel
Thinking to buy Abu Garcia Pro Max (Low Profile Reels). Only can afford to have this, others look very expensive in Abu Garcia line.
It has 7 ball bearings which i think good enough maybe.
Any advice please let me know.

More Info on Pro Max

2) Rod
Thinking to buy 5 - 6 feet Rod casting, donno which brand (you may advice). Since is is for casting, soft bending (dunno what is the correct term) would be better right?
Advise me please..

3) Braided line
Please advise how much pound for the main line. Which brand (Not too expensive, average range is better  nod.gif ). The main criteria is i can throw the bait farther, so would thing small mm is better imho.

4) Bait
This is less a concern. but if you have thought feel free to share. Thanks!

Maybe with your guidance i will catch my 1st ever toman.  flex.gif

1) Pro max/black max should be a good beginner bc reel

2) Rod for casting you cannot use the soft type, there would be no power to flick the lure. Typically fast action rod will work best, 5-6 feet is good for small 100 size reels biggrin.gif

3) braided i think go for 12-15lb if you are a beginner(you dont want to loose your first big fish biggrin.gif more pro then can go as low as 6lb

4) bait depends totally on what and where you fish

Dont need to be a pro to use 6lbs la... anyone can use, just need to reel and pump the fish in slowly. Let your drag do its job to tired the fish down.

Welcome Bro Xenon,

First set a budget,.. then easier to work from there. You DONT wanna start with those really low end casters like relix & awashima.

Pro-Max is a good start, for the similar price Shimano Caenan is another good choice.
Rod - get a 6ft at least, for toman and haruna hunting,.. safe to stay in the M - ML any where starting from 8lbs - 20lbs or anything in bwtn. 8-16lbs would be good. Majorcraft Basspara RM220 6'3"
Else hunt for the Okuma Nemesis II 6-12lbs or the new Shimano Vengeance.

Line - If you are just going to pay pond,.. 10lbs line is good enough. If wild hunting go for 15lbs min all the way to 30lbs, dont buy cheap lines,... lines determine and decides your fate on landing the fish or losing an expensive lure.

Lure - so many options from replicas to the real deals,... i generally stick to those within 10-30buckaroos,.. well i have some MB and jackalls but never really use em.

Haha, just to be on the safe side slightly thicker. Gan jeong first time get bish fish can really impair judgement. I still remember when i was a kid, get big fish then start to panic laugh.gif

1) Thanks for recommendation. I only know this brand. You may advise other brand if it is good and affordable (Seem like you all not talking about Abu Garcia Brand in last few pages  tongue.gif )

2) So medium would be good right?

3) How about 20lbs? Is it too big? afraid of main line snapped.

4) Noted smile.gif
*
1) Abu reels tend to corrode in saltwater, if you are using it for mostly freshwater then its fine. Like 1$ mention, set a budget first. Its easier for us to recommend you something that suits your budget.

2) medium, im using 10-20lb st croix for my general purpose use, so far havent let me down. From open ocean to longkang fishing whistling.gif

3) 20 would be an overkill for pond fishing(although im using 20lb now tongue.gif ) try 12-15 first, too big you will kill the fun, too small then high chance of losing the fish.
