Yea have to figure out that part.Hmm basically from what I heard is that the speaker need to connect to the audio out or audion in? port of the monitor. Then HDMI to PS3 and DVI to desktop.Have to get more information on that sweat.gif

And also need to check what kind of port does edifier R501 has sweat.gif

EDIT:Should be something like PS3 HDMI Output > Monitor HDMI Input > Audio output port > Speaker
*
are you using a television as your monitor?

if so then it should be easier as most flatscreens can channel 5.1 analog out

the R501 features standard aux cables for connection as it is meant to be for speakers so if you are plugging to tv you might need 3.5mm to RCA cables

Thanks.Btw I heard that it wont be 5.1 sound from R501 using TV, PS3 or macbookpro.Or u need HDMI to produce 5.1 surround sound?

QUOTE
you can't get 5.1 sound from your R501 using TV, PS3 or macbookpro. the R501 is designed to be a PC speaker, it uses 5.1 analog connection. while your TV, PS3 or macbook only supports digital 5.1 connection (optical spdif)

so best bet is you can only get stereo sound from 3 devices simultaneously.

EDIT:Found something interesting but not sure it's the correct solution.I will need an optical to 3.5mm cable

Optical to 3.5mm cable

Optical goes to the PS3 and 3.5mm goes to the audio line in port of the edifier R501 hmm.gif

And then the 3 x 5.1 line in cables from the Edifier R501 goes into the sound card of the gaming rig hmm.gif

You can use 5.1 'stereo' if you extend everything with a splitter or go with 2.1 via pc line in

HDMI is usually for TV visual purposes (and I was thinking of using your tv as a 5.1 DAC decoder)
but since you don't have a TV to do so you will need a DAC (or a soundcard I guess) that can convert optical audio into 5.1 analog audio

Edifier R501 doesn't support optical lol that is the main problem

so you would just be shining funny red light into R501 doing nothing if you are using that cable... whistling.gif

Oh I didnt know that! tongue.gif Thanks for informing laugh.gif

Hmmm but then I would need to connect the ps3 optical to the sound card which means I need to switch on both PS3 and gaming rig at the same time eventhough I dont need the gaming rig just for the sound card hmm.gif

EDIT:Not sure whether this works but how about like this? (refer to the image below)

Using PS3 AV cable, connect the red and white audio cable to the Y splitter and then connect the male end of the Y splitter to the R501 speaker. Will it produce 5.1 surround sound?

EDIT 2:Read around and as power911 it's the analog and digital connection thingy ~_~ Looks like R501 doesnt suit my needs.Perhaps other speaker recommendation? sweat.gif

by doing that you would just create 5.1 Stereo
not genuine 5.1 surround sound

so if you are playing games and someone were to rape you from behind you wouldn't hear anything because you are channeling sounds from front speakers to the back only

the only method that I can think of is to get Edifier C6XD or some other equivalent mini home theater systems for TV to support your PS3 optical if you really wanted 5.1 surround

Hmm u got a point there.I guess it's either use LED TV instead of PC monitor OR choose other non-pc kind of speaker hmm.gif

EDIT:Urghh...home theatre 5.1 system are quite pricy rclxub.gif

Last option is to connect optical to 3.5mm to the sound card sad.gif

OR get Edifier C6XD.The price is almost same as DA5000 Pro.Not sure how good it will sound.Any one from here use that speaker before?

Cant even find review about C6XD sweat.gif

use LED tv... it's the best option in my opinion... or survive with stereo lol

C6XD is ridiculously new lol
It's not gonna sound as good as DA5000PRO but C6XD supports optical audio wink.gif

Well...LED TV is quite big since I'll be sitting quite near plus it's over my budget sweat.gif Awww...dilemma dilemma rclxub.gif

I guess I just have to plug the optical cable connecting PS3 and the sound card. Now just need somebody to recommend me a good sound card tongue.gif

Came across Asus Xonar DX and Creative Sound Blaster X-fi Titanium that fits my budget.Feels that Asus Xonar DX is better laugh.gif

EDIT:Btw,how long is the length of the cable of Edifier DA5000 Pro?Will I be able to put all the speakers at 4 corners of my room (a small apartment room)?

Hohoho glad to hear that tongue.gif

EDIT:Previously I mentioned that I am more lean towards Asus Xonar DX but then someone told me it doesnt has optical in so it's out of the option...last choice would be X-fi Titanium or wait for Sound Blaster Z which I heard will be coming this month? hmm.gif

no choice
a 5.1 soundcard is the only way to deliver true 5.1 sound

Best things don't come in RM100

for the best out of every best speaker you need to go up to at least RM5k for a pair of speaker

here's an example of the best speakers KEF offers
