oh well... since all the mtg thread has been closed. so... i guess i should start a new one.
are there still any mtg players loafing around here?

im not a shop or seller, im just a normal mtg player who doesnt know much about mtg (just kidding...) and doesnt have a lot of cards.

i've quitted mtg for sometime (give away almost all my rare and uncommon cards) and decided to get back into mtg recently. also, i would like to meet other mtg players out there.

if you're staying in seri petaling or kl area, we can arrange for a mtg battle session or card trading session (if you're interested with my... err... very very very old and outdated common cards). haha...

do send me a pm smile.gif

[for those who are new and interested]

yes there are...but the cards are mostly from the old sets like m12 is going to be phase out after the release of Return To Ravnica
for single cards, it depends on the shop...
try to create the event, and see how many participants
i might be going........

it's not old, it's just going to be phase out.....
after Return To Ravnica come out, only left with Innistrad, Dark Ascension, Avacyn Restored, m13 and Return To Ravnica.....
the rest are banned unless it is reprinted on the new sets

In Melaka, Epic Toyz in BB Bazaar is the place to get your MTG needs. I drop by there for FNM sessions.

Yup, the blocks you mentioned are legal in Standard format once Return to Ravnica is released.
Depends what format you are playing, I heard some shops in KL started Modern where more blocks are legal.

Among friends we don't care about the formats, we just play with whatever cards, but for FNM at the shop here it's Standard format.

As if you dont have to pay for physical cards. tongue.gif

On a serious note, playing online is much cheaper compare to playing in real life.

You can get commons for free if you know where to look. A booster will cost around USD3.99 so after conversion around rm12?

U can still play MTG for free if u want. If u dont want to waste money or want to test play some cards before u buy it. u can go to this website and download the application. its somewhat like a MTGO except u dont nid to pay.

You need to check out the nearest shop selling MTG for your convenience. In Melaka there's Epic Toyz. CCE Games is based in PJ/KL not mistaken. Per session should cost around RM 65-70.

The meaning between plainswalker and planeswalker is huge biggrin.gif

Those of you who say onslaught is old... make me feel very old. I still have my old revised deck and fallen empires sweat.gif

I have the first Duels of the Planeswalker on Steam but then they started releasing a new "version" every year and I didn't bother buying again.

Went to M14 pre-release. Cards were kinda meh :/

But thankful I played a fella in 2nd round, both of us were joking and laughing like mad throughout our rounds. HAhahaha

Prefer more relaxed play rather than all tense and wan win type...

Good day to all fellow mtg-ers. Well here's my history.

Started MTG during the 7th Edition Core Set, and played on till the end of Invasion block. After that stopped for what seemed like 8 years only to join in back in Zendikar.

Am now playing EDH and also standard around Wangsa Maju.

Hi guys, found this thread n thought I'd post something. This is for anybody from Penang, and looking for a group of MTG kaki to play with near the usm area. Some friends of mine started a group session that convenes a few times a week for games at Nasi Kandar Istimewa, at the Ivory Aptmts Jln Bukit Gambir. I got dragged back into the game after leaving it 15 years hahaha. Anyways, if anybody is interested in joining our MTG session (theres also a Netrunner group as well), drop me a line.

In terms of boosters and boxes, there's Marcus's place Twenty Twenty, that's in One Stop Midlands. There's also Pegasus, around that neighborhood also. There was a place called Paradigm Infinitum I think, but apparently its closed for a while.

Will take some time to list the rares down.....I probably will remember those somewhat valuable rares & uncommon. But sometimes, those junk back then can be valuable now due to imba combos with the newer cards lol.

Hello guys,

I was an avid oddities collectors for MtG. I still have a few page of cards that I decided to sell. I've acquired my cards through magictraders.com more than a decade ago (sadly I've long forgotten my account there). I remembered the trouble acquiring these back then, thanks to their rarities. These cards have never left my folder since so their condition are exactly in similar condition the day I got them.

Rarities:
1x GURU lands Mountain (NM-M)
1x GURU lands Swamp (NM-M)
1x GURU lands Plains (NM-M)
1x Mirror Universe (ITALIAN)
3x APAC Forest
2x BETA Plains (FRENCH)

Generic Misprints:
PRERELEASE misprints:
- Beast of Burden with no date and symbol
- Torment Set with no symbol
FOILED Japanese Circle of Protection with 1/1
Arena border misprint
Serendib Efreet color cost misprint
Stripmine / Burrowing
German Plain / Forest
German Swamp / Drudge Skeleton
etc

Singular Misprints (these misprints incident are unique):
Text misplacement (text printed out of frame)
Miscuts (2 different cards on 1 card)
Print Ink splash
and many others

Michael Sutfin signed collections:
2x Yawgmoth's Bargain
2x Eviscerator
2x Engineered Plague
1x Repercussion
and other signed card/artist

PRERELEASE COLLECTION:
- Monstrous Hound (6/98)
- Beast of Burden (2/99)
- Overtaker (9/99)
- Avatar of Hope (5/00)
- Planeshift Set
- Apocalypse Set (signed by Jim Nelson)
- Torment Set x2
- Judgement Setx3
- Silent Specter
- Feral Throwback x3
- Soul Collector
- Sword of Kaldra
- Djinn Illuminatus
- Lotus Bloom
- Oros the Avenger
- Malfegor

I'll get some photos up if anyone is interested. I wanted to sell the cards in bulk to serious collectors only. Judging by the GURU lands alone, I'm hoping to look to sell the entire collections for a few thousands Ringgit Malaysia.

PM me as these threads would probably lost on me. ><

Me and a couple of mates are planning to rent a venue in the PJ/KL Area to teach anybody Magic The Gathering. Currently in talks with Wizards to see if they can supply Quick-Start decks. If not we'll pony up our cards as freebies for those joining.

Would be great introduce some new players to the game and bring back old players back into it as well.

So if you're interested in coming back to the game and learning all the new rules and interactions, give me a PM. We're looking to book a day during the 3rd Week of December (19-21 Dec)

Our Mission: To provide a friendly environment where we can enjoy this great game without the pressures of Uber Competitive play. Also, they'll be boardgames for those who just wanna relax smile.gif.

Hi. My name is zharif. U can find me in sparta page. But people called me zhaf usually. I cant wait for prerelease though. Not sure which clan to pick but definitely nothing that splash green. Green is too expensive at the moment with courser and sylvan being must haves currently.

Quit after kamigawa era ends, now thinking of coming back with "Shadows over Innistrad" just few days around the corner.

I'm a big fan of themed decks specifically main stream mystic style art, vampire, werewolf, spirit, zombie, samurai, ninja .... etc .....

Plan to drop a few box bomb. Is it worth coming back?

I'm a big fan of themed decks specifically main stream mystic style art, vampire, werewolf, spirit, zombie, samurai, ninja .... etc .....

Plan to drop a few box bomb. Is it worth coming back?

If u planning to play Standard (aka Type 2), should be fine. The cards are still within 'affordable' range, barring mini Jace.
If u planning to play Modern (aka Type 1.5), prolly not. The entry cost is way too high, adding in the forex factor right now, u're prolly looking at about rm2k for a viable tier 2 deck.

For best value of money, it's better u do some research on what viable decks.

your old cards from which sets?
for modern, cards are legal as long as printings are from 8th Ed and beyond. There's a list of banned cards though.

My collection is as old as arabian nights, active from urza's saga up until kamigawa, then from time to time just 1 or 2 random pack for no reason.

Back then build mostly theme deck.

maybe u can look into EDH, or also known as commander. it is a singleton format, where u have a legendary creature as your commander, and a deck of 99 cards. Each card only allowed 1 copy, unless if it is basic lands. Your spells must be of the colours of your commander. If ur commander is UWR in colour, only spells of colours (single or combined) blue, white and/or red are allowed in your deck.

This format is more for casual plays, there are no sanctioned tournaments for this format. However, it is widely popular.

Since u're into building decks with a theme, I highly recommend u to look into this format smile.gif

To ask an old question does anyone know of any MTG shops/Tournaments in Seremban or surrounding area.

I have found TCG Mars online but they only seem to do Vanguard and YuGiOh.

Thanks for your help!

I say around Rm500? I stopped when Wizard of the Coast introduce mythic cards. Every deck nowadays most likely contained at least one of those damn planeswalkers.

Hey! I haven't even mentioned that the meta changes so fast that you will most likely have to get another deck every time Wiz introduce a new set/expansion. tongue.gif

If meta change is a concern, consider playing Modern or EDH formats. If ur not playing competitive, just use proxies first n test the deck out b4 u consider putting money into it.

How much are these worth? I also have a full playset of each of the dual lands, fetch lands and ravnica duals (120 cards in total).

I also have two playsets of force of will, a playset each of mana crypt, grim monolith, JTMS, Karn Liberated etc etc. Single copies of candelabra of tawnos, tabernacle at pendre vale, and every vintage or legacy card known to mankind. I also have playset of almost all playable modern cards like Vendilion Clique, Kiki jiki, splinter twin etc etc. I am missing tarmagoyf tho...

Any idea on the worth of a grasscutter's collection?

You can refer to the prices on Starcity Games. Local players would buy them at rates of USD @ 3.0-3.5.

Hi Magic players,

Have you heard of Pucatrade?
It's a MTG card trading platform. You trade cards for points, each individual card is assigned to points called Puca points.
In terms of value, USD 1 = 100 puca pts.
So far I see not many Malaysian players are active in Pucatrade. In fact most of the cards I get come from other countries.

Signing up is free, and just by doing a few tasks you will get bonus Puca points.
List the cards you want, and once you have enough points for the card, other Pucatrade members will be able to send cards to you.
How to get more points? Send out more cards!
You can also buy points, but why would you want to do that?

Just another alternative for you to trade/buy/sell cards.

You can check it out here:

Pucatrade

Pucatrade gets negative reputation these days. It was great around for a year after its inception.

Basically, the developer pumps in additional Puca points themselves into their Puca system. Reddit search should turn out some good read.

Ah I see, I guess that's why they revamped the system not too long ago with some point sinks for members to spend their puca points.
Hopefully they'll stick around for a while, I actually like that we are able to trade cards without the hassle of fair value, needing to top up with cash and so on.

I tried to go back MTG when shadow of innistrad was out, I find mtg now a days not like the good old days ...... all that block's card value drop so low at the end of cycle, drop even more after cycle.

A lot of deck are build without real theme, like basically any card that can win are mixed.

Back in the days besides duel the best thing I like was theme deck, zombie, vampire, treefolk, samurai, kithkin, etc ....

Now you still can make them if you want, but no one in active shop is playing any, mostly just build deck around dominating Planeswalker ....

Of the few places I know, the only one left is Comics Mart in Mid Valley. Are there any other shops that have a variety of MTG stuff for sale, as well as sleeves, binders and other stuff? Comics Mart a bit low on choices.

For sleeves, binder and stuff, I'll try ask any card shop even Japanese card game ones. Chances are their supplier has standard size (mtg) products and they can order in for you.

You can try Safehouse (ex Spartan Games Arena) in Wangsa Maju, they have those. Littleakiba has lots of Japanese sleeves last time I was there.

Okay, this is my personal experience this week, although a lot of the must-go shops were closed on Mondays. The only 2 places that have a lot of sleeves is at Comics Corner near Atria (they have a branch at SS15, not much there) and also ACE Cards (one floor higher than Comics Mart at MidValley). I bought all my sleeves at these two areas.

I think only Vintage players would want your cards. And nobody buys basic lands. Sorry my friend, I think the demand isn't there and I think RM100 is still pretty expensive. I got 250 lands for just RM30.

did a simple izzet control, type 2 from the cards i have (yar, mostly from the box i hugged and cuddled for few nights, then the protective plastic wrapper broke...)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

deck is somewhat simple... magma pray, a no-brainer must have, sweltering sun would deal will bears and tokens, sensor for early low cost counters then later cycling, 8 card draws, gearhulk for counters and harassment and drakes that just grow when u dump spells into graveyard

as for side board, flings is somewhat situational and depended on draw (u know, ppl stand up yelling 'madness? THS IS SPART-' and i'll just fling targetted creature to their face before the can fatal push it...), cryptic serpent is cheap during mid game when much spells are in grave yard, by force just get rid of some stuffs (like the marvelous stuff that made people yell 'alamak', or giddy-the-poster-boy's heart-shaped mosquito). glorybringer is included becuz it's GLORY BRINGER!!!

in b4 'amg y no innistrad/ zendikar block' (well, rotating out soon, amonkhet exp is roughly 1.5 months apart, plus this is how i roll cool2.gif ), 'amg no aether hub', 'amg no dual lands', 'amg 2 gearhulks' (the price for those cards... *puking blood*)

Yokuzuna in Berjaya Times Square (7th Floor, same row as XL-Shop and Gamers Arena, at the Corner heading into the Theme Park area) sells MTG cards (and I assume their main shop in Publika does as well). They have booster packs for most of the latest series, Zendikar, Shadows over Innistrad, Eldritch Moon and others, all the way to Amonkhet. They don't seem to have other things like Duel Decks, Intro Packs etc, though - just Booster Packs and Booster Boxes, with the odd set of sleeves and, of course, loose cards. The people there also play the game, and are more than willing to give advice on playing the game.

Thanks! That's so much nearer my place, and will look for it.

I found another store, Brainstorm Games, at the junction where Jalan Kuchai Lama meets Jalan Klang Lama. They have Duel Decks, intro packs (for Eldritch Moon), Planeswalker Decks for Gideon and Liliana, as well as sleeves and boosters as usual. They also have those free Welcome Decks, so if anyone wants to grab a few to introduce new players they can do so (although I personally find the welcome decks lack a certain charm and feel to them).

How did the event at Sunway Pyramid go? I didn't have time to visit and watch.

How does the tournament work? Each person gets three booster packs and has to play with what they have? What if you don't get any land cards?

Many cards get reprint to hell, collector's now interested in gold, foil from the past but only from certain set. Some old lands that is different from the new one also got collection ...... its best if you search all your cards and pick out those with some value and bundle them up to sell with a discount either on the sale hobby store here in /k garage sale ........ or try to find buyer from game shop that held mini tourney everyday (usually night time).

This kind of gameplay format is called Limited. Your deck is the cards you cracked open open to a minimum of 30 cards (for this event).

There is a table with basic lands (land stations) where you can add in as many basic lands you want into your deck.

MTG Collector for vintage old cards, if you or you know anyone who has quit magic and is interested in getting rid of their collection, I'm willing to take them from you for a very good price. Do let me know in the PM, thanks.

Well, look at it this way - the loss was only for that event, but the foil Scorpion God is yours for life. Nice pull! smile.gif

I missed the pre-release events as I didn't have time on Fridays or Saturday, and so only managed to buy a couple of pre-release packs on Wednesday. Went home, played a couple sealed games with my son, and we ended at 1-1. My son drew a Scarab God while I drew an Overwhelming Splendour (and which won me the second game). Our promo foils were a bit meh, although I did get a God-Pharaoh's Gift.

Nice. The prerelease packs are great. They have all the right stuff inside for a good pickup session. You can even do 4 player drafting with 2 prerelease packs.

I didn't play prerelease for this set but got in a draft session for this week's Draft Weekend. Lost all the way but it's great to meet some new faces.

Yeah, minimum C/UC prices quoted online also usually refer to the price you have to pay if you want to buy them for whatever reason and can't find them lying around unwanted, instead of the actual chance of you getting that money if selling them too.

Anybody still playing? Recently just pick up this game.
Went to a local game store but don't feel like going again before I can play "fluently". As I am still new, so I made silly mistake like I play a land card before I draw, take longer time to read the cards, need explanation on what my opponent cards do...etc.. People seems not interested to play with me as it might be quite annoying...

So if anyone willing to meet at cafe/Starbucks for a game or 2, i am happy to meet up, thank you!

Welcome to the game. There is an upcoming event caters to new Magic players. It is on November 19th and called Magic Open House (Rivals of Ixalan). It's free of charge, you get free cards and most of the Magic shop around will host it.

Since you are in JB and I'm in KL, I'll suggest you to Google Magic shops in JB or SG for that event.

temped to try commander (or some likes to call it 'elder dragon highlander'), owns no cards prior to kaladesh block...ended up exhausted all my reserved $$ this month for iconic masters box sad.gif

prolly get my box tonite, using it for few games of sealed draft... 6 cryptic command plz...

2.6 billion donation, plz...

*sigh*

@CreamMilk
welcome to the game. smile.gif

there are few stuffs you need to take note of:
1. get singles - sometimes our luck just... bleh... and it'll made you ponder what directions you took in your life... when a dude next to you pulled nissa out of 1 pack, glory bringer from another then a foiled niccy...

2. FNM was better last time due to the reward but it's still good to practice the phases and get to know the rules (keywords like 'dwelve', 'exert', 'prowess', 'fear', etc) and familiarize with many odd mechanics (like EOT sac, blocking sac and most importantly... THE STACK!!!)

3. card vulture - people will crack packs to try their luck and often would they leave some, it's a good way to get cards (you can get rares if lucky). remember to ask them about their discarded pile before taking any cards

4. start cheap - dual lands are usually a good way to fix mana but they are f**kin' expensive (cheaper if you opt for tap lands), use basic lands instead. always look for deck alternative instead of following latest deck trends cause they cost a lot. build up your financial

wat ashburn98 mentioned is a good way to get few cards to play. go visit LGS during that day and shamelessly request additional decks (if possible). you can store those decks in your cars, your room, your garage and it's a good way to party with fwens, all you need is just a bunch of basic lands...

fyi, there would oso be an event held somewhere in SG next month, no points required to enter (unlike the one at quill city mall... *sigh*). i was encouraged to go and try my luck (LGS owner was like, 'woooi... go laaaa... help cut down the cost, we can share room wat... sg got lotsa lenglui oso...'), but izzet prowess deck i made is still unstable... prolly scrap it for mono black tokens... becoz... TOKENS!!!

ofkos there are few alternative ways to play the game, such as the official wotc product like MTGO (initial registration, booster packs requires $$, in game tix is more important) and it's b*st*rd line of 'duels of the plainswalkers... or just use unsanctioned clients like c*cktrice, xm*ge to play but those would lack interaction, plus familiarizing controls are always an issue...

Wow, thanks for the tips & guide, I could not understand most of the jargon sweat.gif
I might look into MTG Online too if I could not visit LGS frequently, just that I am very reluctant to spend more $$$ to get digital magic cards.
Yes I have heard about the Singapore GP, as told by the LGS boss which I visited that day, the registration fee is kinda steep though and most importantly I am not around on 15th December, will only be back to Singapore on 16th December, most likely. So probably would drop by on 16 or 17 to look see look see.

This is my suggestion as another option to get familiarize with MTG basic games, if you own a iOS device you may download the game and give it a try.
They will guide you on the basic on playing land, attack, defense and etc.

i think the app is still not as complicated as the actual game when comes to dealing with THE STACK (well, since everything goes there...) and board state (which is also complicated when mechanics are involved) and sometimes lack much explanation for people to understand

for example:
you had a 2/2 creature on field, while opponent had a bomat courier and a 4/4 indestructible creature

you declared your attacker after declaring and moving into combat phase, during the blocker assignment opponent had assigned bomat courier to block your attacker (state based for attacker: blocked), then opponent proceed to sacrifice the blocker for exiled cards (ability effect on stack to be resolved). in response to the ability state in stack, you cast a instant targeted opponent's 4/4 indestructible creature to get -4/-4 until the end of turn (new spell moved to stack) and opponent has nothing to response

the stacks resolved before moving to blocking phase, due to state placement effect the attacker was blocked by a creature opponent sacrificed, and also due to state placement, opponent's indestructible creature was moved to graveyard (well, it didn't get destroyed, but turned into a 0/0 creature and had to be moved to graveyard)

the app never do such detail and proceeds to resolve automatically...

Just FYI, a card shop in Wangsa Maju called Safehouse will have its last day on Feb 11th. It was previously Spartan Game Arena.

They are having discounts on MTG products, Warhammer and all accessories (Dragon Shield sleeves, deckboxes, etc) right now. If those are something that interests you, go check them out before the last day.

Actually if I am looking to build a magic modern deck, like the affinity deck link as below.

How would be the fastest way for me to buy the cards?

Previously quitted MTG 10 years ago. Interested to restart back.

bump!!! this thread ain't dead!!!

recently playing MTG Arena with an unusual restriction:

- keep 3 packs of each release, they can't be open
- 1 wild card usage per month
- keep afloat with 6000 gold
- construct and play decks based on any given quests (example: cast 20 red or black spells)

having some fun doing away with standard meta and messing around with jank builds

as in real life game, my little brother is showing concerns of me wasting much time to play cardboard crack over saving up to get a vietnamese wife, but meh... competition is this saturday and i'll be there trying to compete with meta decks

not quite ready to move for modern because of the insane price tags...

who's heading to atria mall this saturday and sunday for the nats?

Is it legal to sell custom made magic the gathering figurine? I'm practicing clay crafting and thought of proposing to a frequent shop of mine to play specific modern competition and make them as a give away prize for top winners. Something with a theme, like Zombie modern, vampire .... etc.

You can ask people in your playgroup if they are interested in buying your cards, and talk to the shopkeeper of your previous local game shop if they have a card buying list/policy.

I personally will point you towards transitioning to play Elder Dragon Highlander format with your cards and keep playing Magic. smile.gif

I have no idea but this shop that sells both art items and MTG products might know the legality.

Is there a WhatsApp or telegram group for MTG? I used to play back in the 90s and would definitely like to rekindle this old hobby of mine.. Is the group in Sri Petaling mentioned by TS still active?

Did you keep your cards or sold them away and have to start afresh? Depending on your card pool and available time/commitment, these days it's usually Standard format (used to be called Type 2) or Commander format (100 cards, single copy card, casual, multiplayer).

Commander plays like this

Below is a 5 minute introduction to Commander format.

I play Commander in KL. If you like to try it, PM me.

Does anyone know where I can get the Vampiric Bloodlust 2017 Commander deck? Been looking for it for a few days now, can't seem to find it. I used to play a vampire standard deck back in Innistrad cycle but I rather play EDH now days

The ship has sailed for Vampiric Bloodlust precon. Probably it is better to hammer up your own deck list and go look for individual vampire creatures (which is not expensive).

I am surprised to see that it's already 1 year after the last post.

If you're still playing MTG, what format are you in now?

Hi all, I'm interested to know if its worth to collect cards (decks/booster packs) such as MTG for future investment?
Increase in value, though not expecting much, but still retain and get back budget spent.
Could anyone share experience & tips on this matter? blush.gif

Just checking in from time to time.

The most recent product, released a week ago, is Double Masters 2022. About a month ago was Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate.

Next up, in September is Dominaria United will be released. Going back to Dominaria, the original continent/world, and we will get to see how the brothers, Urza and Mishra, fight it out in The Brothers War on November 2022.

In October, you'll see the release of the Unifinity set and Warhammer40k Commander decks.

Meanwhile, Hasbro enjoying record profits and yet, keep rising prices.

Hi, for the mtg warhammer 40k(non surge foil) deck. Is rm300 to 330 a fair price for each deck? I’m a fan of warhammer and kinda want to casually play with friend during gathering event with it. But don’t want to pay too much of a markup price.

These days for beginners first purchase, it is usually wiser to get the latest set's commander precons. They play well against each other; easy to sit down and play with strangers in card shops and there is no need to chase or upgrade cards.

The official link to the two precons is below.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcem...ander-decklists

There is no need to try the bootleg version. Magic the Gathering have online free to play version called Magic Arena. Make a user account and they have tutorials inside to guide and rewards beginners.

Hope that helps. You can PM me for more pointers as this thread can evidently get slow.

Hi guys, if you're beginners sometimes you can try to find events that open to beginners, and you can get a complimentary starter deck to learn through the basics, then from there you can slowly build your Modern or Commander deck.

A bit of marketing, if any of you interested to get some old cards can browse through my list here:
