Yup. ESPN said thigh strain. His dribbling will invite tackles. Better not to risk him. But still sad couldn't see him play live. cry.gif

QUOTE
You let everyone down, BSC Soccer
By GRAIG NUNIS

PATHETIC is too mild a word to describe the shenanigans which took place during Barcelona’s visit to Malaysia.

It is bad enough you have inexperienced football promoters/tour organisers who didn’t hype up the appearance of one of football’s greatest clubs and failed to ensure the playing field was up to scratch, but the “vetting” of their security personnel appeared non-existent.

How else can you explain the behaviour of BSC Soccer’s security personnel?

Several journalists covering the match last night were pushed, shoved and obstructed from doing their jobs and were even told “come settle this outside” when they argued they should be allowed into the press conference room as they had the right passes (strangely, not all journalists were accredited to attend the press conference and the decision as to whom could or could not attend was left to the discretion of the match organisers).

BSC Soccer should shoulder the blame for hiring what many journalists considered “thugs” or “gangsters” to act as “security experts”. They were clearly out of their depth and had no idea what they were supposed to do – apart from trying to intimidate people and extort money from fans – more on that further down.

We understand security has to be tight – although BSC Soccer FAILED MISERABLY when fans invaded the pitch after Barcelona’s training session on Friday and some even grabbed hold of a couple of players.

BSC Soccer “security experts” were too busy trying to catch mementos thrown by Barcelona players – perhaps if they were doing their job, they could have stopped the pitch invaders.

Food for thought, eh, BSC Soccer.

These security goons also prevented the local media from speaking to two Barcelona players, even though it was clearly stated on the invitation sent by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) the media would be allowed to interview the players after their training.

Or perhaps BSC Soccer forgot to inform FAM this privilege was only for the foreign media?

On match day, the mixed zone area was awash with people trying to get a glimpse of Barcelona and Harimau Malaya players. Accredited media, thus, had trouble making their way to the press conference room.

Overzealous BSC Soccer “security experts” refused them entry and several shoved the media when the journalists tried to show them their accreditations.

One reporter was nearly hit on the head with a walkie talkie after asking why he was not allowed in!

These “security experts” also denied a sponsor’s representative entry, even though he had an all access pass.

The reason? The press conference room was in Zone 8, but “all access cards” are marked as No. 7. Hello, there is a reason why it is called an “all access pass”.

To rub salt into the wounds, Barcelona snubbed the press conference as they were “rushing to the airport”.

Their players were also roundly booed after the match for their failure to acknowledge the fans who paid big bucks and sacrificed their Hari Raya holidays to attend the match.

Compare this to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who made it a point to speak to the Thai and international media in Bangkok on July 28 even though, he too, was rushing to the airport (and we all know how much worse the Thai traffic situation is).

Rodgers spent less than five minutes with the media, but answered several questions, mostly about Luis Suarez, and made it a point to say thank you.

BSC Soccer should have insisted or made plans for Barcelona to attend the press conference. After all, the Spaniards are here to popularise their brand and are being paid a king’s ransom.

Dear BSC Soccer, the media are not asking for much. We just want to do our job – without worrying about being bashed up and would like to be treated fairly.

We are not asking to be treated like royalty. We just want the same access you grant foreign journalists. Why the double standards?

Hopefully you can learn from your many, many, many , many, mistakes.

Fans short-changed and asked to pay more for seats

OH, another thing. When you decide to make a last minute venue switch, please advise your “security experts” who is supposed to sit where.

As seen from this report, many VIP ticket holders were denied entry to the VIP section as the all-knowing BSC Soccer “security experts” refused or were not instructed to open the gates to the said area.

It won’t come as a surprise if several fans decide to take legal action.

A BSC Soccer “security expert” also tried to block several fans from seating in their designated areas unless he was paid some money.

The fans, two of whom are foreigners, refused to fork over any more cash after paying RM388 each for their tickets. They argued with the “security expert” and informed him they were escorted to the area by the people manning the ticketing checkpoints.

Several other BSC Soccer “security experts” then gathered round them and were staring at them throughout the match.

Luckily, these were not the same aggressive “security experts” who were happily manhandling the media.

This certainly leaves a bad image of the country.

I wonder what Malaysian Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), whose role is to promote and position Malaysia internationally as the preferred destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibition including major events – have to say about these incidents as they are one of the sponsors.

Barcelona tour organizers treated us like pariahs, says Malaysian Sports Minister

By Keeshaanan Sundaresan

Aug 11, 2013 6:00:00 PM

Khairy Jamaluddin expressed his resentment towards different issues that surrounded the poorly organized match between Barcelona and Malaysia XI

Malaysian Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin took to Twitter to express his animosity towards the poorly organized match between Barcelon and Malaysia XI yesterday.

The former Deputy President of FAM criticised organizers for their lack of consideration, claiming that local fans and media were treated like ' pariahs ' .

" Event organizers for Barca tour messed up ground ops throughout. Local media and fans treated like pariahs, " he tweeted earlier today.

In what turned out to be a real mess, organizers were forced to change the venue of the match to the Shah Alam Stadium on Friday night, due to the terrible pitch condition in Bukit Jalil. This last hour change, created a mess in terms of logistics and the problem amplified on match day.

Several fans who had purchased VIP tickets, that costed RM688, were not allowed entry into the VIP zone by the security team, despite their continuous pleas.

" Event organizers poorly advised FAM and Barca on pitch condition. Probably wanted to maximise ticket sales at expense of pitch condition, " Khairy continued.

" FAM and Barca should have been more hands on in field inspection. Especially FAM who should know better about SNBJ (Bukit Jalil Stadium) field condition and my October refurbishment plans. "
