hey Cyntrix, my budget is around 500 + , currently stuck between the m20w ( or even m50w if the difference is big) and ds1080iv now, what are the main differences ?

I'm gonna use it as a desktop speaker mainly for music + gaming in my room.

Thanks in advance.

Woah thanks a lot for information man and you actually replied at 3 in the morning ! That's dedication right there notworthy.gif

I'm really spoilt for choices now that you've put DS1010-IV into the picture. I think I'll wait till the demo unit is set up at heavyarm's store next week to try these speakers out before deciding smile.gif.

Went and auditioned nearly all of the HiVi Speakers today in Heavy-Arm. It was truly an eye opener. Would like to share my experience with you guys smile.gif.

Do note that I'm a noob when it comes to speakers. However, I do share the same appreciation of good music as most of u here. Hence the absence of proper terms used in describing the sound quality will be obvious.

First up was the M10. Well what can I say ? The moment the first song started playing, it blew my current speaker - the altec lansing vs4121 away. Immediately I got anxious, thinking HOLY SHIT ! this is the entry model ?? As mentioned before by Cyntrix, don't be deceived by its size, it packs a lot of punch ! At that moment I seriously couldn't wait to go higher to see what the rest are capable of.

Next up was the A532, the notable difference between these 2 similar priced speakers is the bass. A532 bass is a lot more thicker and the overall sound is " lower ". Personally prefer the m10 because of its all rounder feature smile.gif.

Then it was time to jump to the next bracket, roll in the DS1010 and DS1080. I went with the DS1010 first and God it was beautiful, I honestly, had goosebumps when the music started playing, once you experienced the D-series, it's likely that you'll never look at the lower ranges again. The clarity you get from this speaker is amazing and for a price of RM 399 ? U can't ask for more.

Next up was the elder brother as the staff called it tongue.gif. DS1080 ! From my experience and base on what was said by the staff, the DS1080 packs a lot more bass than the DS1010, however the clarity of the vocals are lacking. For me, I preferred the DS1010 over the DS1080 smile.gif.

Honestly at that time I wanted to just settle for the DS1010 and walk out of the shop but the greedy side of me said otherwise. Hence I decided to try the M20w and M50w as well. It's strange because after listening to both, I actually preferred the D series. Steve pointed out that the M20w and M50w speakers are not as bright as the D-series, but their bass are a lot better, giving listeners the ohmp due to the existence of the sub. The M50w in particular is a lot warmer. True enough you do get a more wholesome experience when listening to the M series. He also added that listening to such bright speakers like the D series might be tiring to some people's ears. Whereas the M series are more suited for long usages.

Finally it was time to take the final step, the gorgeous mkm200ii ! If money isn't an issue I would have bought it on the spot. Out of of all the speakers I've tested. This one was just perfect. The clarity was right there. Bass was just nice, complementing the music. Personally, that was the one for me. Without a doubt.

So yeah here I am in a big dilemma, whether to go for the DS1010 or the M20w. Or should I just take the plunge and settle for the mk200mii.

Sorry for the long post. Would like to give a shoutout to Steve and the staff of Heavy Arm store. They were really helpful and friendly, always ready to assist and explain. smile.gif

The A532 is actually the upgraded model of the M10. But it's not exactly better but different. The A532 has a more mellow sounding satellites, they don't sound as bright. The A532's bass does hit a wee bit lower but loses on SPL that the M10 delivers. So in some way, the M10 is still more engaging but at the same time more fatiguing. Yup, it will blow any typical L/E/A speakers away. tongue.gif

Did you listen to the M200mk2 or mk3? They look almost identical. On desktop, mk2 will be suffice, saves you RM500 also. M200 is what made Swan famous. You will be BLOWN AWAY when you listen to the M200mk2/mk3 at home in a quiet and relax environment, nearfield, on the desktop.

Congratulations to you, you just experienced something that even millions of citizens of the USA would find it very difficult to come by. Yup, many wants to audition them but very hard to find in the states.

I'll probably head over the Heavy Arm tomorrow to help out with any inquiries people may have with the speakers and brand. Don't forget that you can get RM 20 OFF all HiVi speaker purchase this weekend from all our dealers - Heavy Arm, Alex Audio Visual, Rix Trading (EM), and Wellcom PC

Oh I see, that makes a lot of sense too, with regards to the " fatiguing " part of the speakers. I auditioned the m10 first hence I found it more engaging but as I hit the hour mark the " engaging " speakers were too " demanding " on my ears. Too much brightness lol and details to listen to biggrin.gif.

I listened to the mk2 as I saw your previous review comparing both speakers nearfield and you couldn't really tell the difference. For now I'll only be using it in a small room so mk3 will be an overkill for me lol. (no need to fork out the extra RM 500 too whistling.gif ). I was BLOWN away the moment the speakers came to life, I have no doubt it will do the same or more if they're playing right in front of me now again cool.gif

This is all thanks to you bro thumbup.gif . Without you bringing in this awesome line of speakers we wouldn't be able to enjoy such sound quality at a bargain price nod.gif .

Btw, would appreciate it if you could enlighten me on the DS1010 vs M20w part... For a more wholesome experience, m20w will win hands down ? I game, listen to music + watch a bit of movies on my PC.

Nice review! Damn, after seeing what you said, I kind of regret of buying the M50W, should had go for 2.0 speakers, the M200MKII is just RM20 more.

Thank you for your kind comment hehe, although it's more like a description of my visit than a review tongue.gif .

I don't think that's necessarily the case haha, as Cyntrix mentioned before there's something for everyone. M200 might be the one for me but it could be different for anyone else hehe. For me I just prefer the brighter tone of the m200 rather than the warm sound of the m50w. nod.gif
