hi guys, just a soft reminder...

katana is a scheduled weapon under the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapon Act 1958.

if you guys carries it around at public places, selling it in public places, its a seizable offence, meaning can get caught.

punishment: prison not more than 3 years.

so, jaga-jaga, cause its also a non bailable offence. (meaning, kalau u kena tangkap, polis terus charge you in court only. hanya thru mahkamah sahaja boleh jamin you all)...

wont want anybody get caught by this type of offence...

does that mean if we do not bring it in public it wont matter?
(like collecting it in private area, homes , etc)
anyway who says petaling street dosent sell katanas
theres lotsa them in central market
but with stupid prices, bad bad quality
if u're a collector u know it
if u still going to collect that kind of quality things means u're still noob
by the way, japan dosent permit thier registered katana to be exported that easily,
unless u have some rank in kendo or kenjutsu and is a sensei
dont be fooled if someone tell u he is selling a katana from japan and is registered
its probally from china

Sorry if this has been asked before, but will Customs give me trouble if I were to ship an ornamental katana (dull blade but otherwise looks the part) from overseas? I'm shipping home some personal effects that a friend was keeping for me, and it suddenly occurred to me that my katana might not be allowed into the country. Much as it pains me I'd rather the katana stay with my friend, where I know it'll be safe, rather than risk it being confiscated and left to rot in a Customs warehouse.;_;

To get a registered katana from Japan would probably cost around the range of RM10k if from awell-know master and high number of folds. Paul Chen's katanas are already very good and already very pricey.

For those collectors who buy solely for ornamental purposes, I wouldn't blame them for buying from central market. That is what they wanted. To them it is a decoration meant to sit in a cupboard. They probably don't know what is a full tang.

By the way, anyone knows where to get choji oil? Mine's going to run out soon...

why dont you make you own choji oil ?
i saw some website teaching people to make it
and if u're in malaysia... better import rather searching for it in malaysia
coz katana's in malaysia are all mass produced from china, with low quality stainless steel
they dosent need to be oiled

Hi, do you guys know how much a wooden katana (80cm-100cm) costs in Malaysia and where can you find them?

I know there're a lot in Jonker Street but I've never been there myself and I'm not sure about the length. Anyone bought any wooden katana before?

there was a shop called "little china" in petaling street that sells ok-quality wooden swrod
(i wouldnt call it a wooden katana as it dosent comes with tsuba)
RM9 for one... well no need to surprise as it is mass produced...from china
so i bought one home for swinging around... and to replace any broken bokuto
its surprisingly quite durable ... survived until now ,gone through lots and lots of brutal hits
anyway when i wanna go back and buy one... the shop is moved away

as for those you see in jonker streets and central market, i think they have the same quality as they looks exactly same
anyway they raise the price up to RM27~45 due to there is no one to compete the price
and to cheat newbies that loves these stuff alot but dont know where to get one

Difference Between Japanese Katana & Korean Jingum

The Koreans did adopted the Japanese katana as one of their own weapon. However, if I may to give certain insight. The Korean Jingum although may look similar at glance, there are certain differences such as

1. Curvature, Korean Jingum is less curved than the Japanese Katana
2. Its blade is slightly wider than the Katana
3. The blade tip of the Jingum is most often shobu-zukuri while the Japanese Katana tend to use Shinogi Zukuri

The Koreans might have adopted the katana perhaps during the Imjim Waeran, when Korea was invaded by Japan in 1598.

WIth the expansion of Korean Sword art, More jingums are in production to meet the demand of the Korean Sword practitioners. The Koreans adopted a lot from the Chinese from the sword making method and even design. There are Korean Jian too. It is interesting to see if other culture adopted other culture which produces interesting combination.

sure.
to register, u need a proper reason to own one real katana
and ofcourse, prepare money ==(lots of them)
but why the hell do someone wants to go through this lot of trouble to keep 1 sharp blade?
just blunt it ,save lots of trouble
