i think, ur car is still low mileage. Need some more run. However, i do think u need to read carefully on how arthur taking advantage on understanding how clutch based cvt works. There is a diff even light footed term applied. Even both drivers never rev beyond 2k rpm or 1.8k rpm to be specific, from idle, one let the clutch closed 1st b4 press the throttle n gradually pressing until it reach 1.8k rpm(getting the cvt less work to match the ratio with the engine speed) will have diff fc with those instantly press the throttle when the clutch still in open position n contasnt pressing the throttle at 1.8k rpm(cvt hard to work more to match its ratio with the engine speed). There is a diff, even not really huge. Remember, the amount of fuel spray/injected to the engine according to engine rpm speed. The advantage of cvt is that no need to try hard to contrl coz u only need to control the engine speed while cvt doint its work for matching the ratio, while in at, u have to control it for every gear to make sure it did upshift as low rpm as it can. But if really technically careful driver, sometimes using step gear really help if take advantage of overdrive gear.

However, tcu n ecu adaptive program need sometimes to read ur driving patern before deciding the best balance between power n fc. Same apply in any car actually. If u have driven/tested turboed pug 1.6, its fc really low below 5k, n getting better n better until settling down until 10k km. Or maybe u can read any article on long term test drive on pug, i think some auto blog in malaysia do that.

Im not saying that preve cfe fc is the best, but it certainly not the worst. For a modest pwr come from 1.6l turbo engine fit in a heavy car, its not really bad. But thats my opinion jer. Others have their right too.
*
Bro, not sure if you have any specific knowledge about this, but when the clutch is opened (brake pressed, eg. Traffic light stop), does leaving the gear in D or N make any difference in FC? There is an endless debate at the Saga thread about this, with a member furnishing a fuel flow graph from the ECU indicating D will consume slightly more fuel than N.

Also, will L or S mode cause the ECU to spray more fuel?

I am basing my observation on the fuel flow rate from the OBD2 scanner, but it seems the fuel flow rate is not a reliable indicator of fuel usage, as I found that engine braking downhill INCREASES the fuel flow instead of maintaing it at idling level or outright cut off.

actually, u can hear whether the cvt work more or less to match engine speed. If u heard the engine roar a bit until it reach desired speed, and the sound become less audible, then its already match the ratio. But if u gradually pressed, u can hear the engine sound less audible coz cvt work less to match the ratio coz engine speed gap between cvt ratio is not apparent. Sorry, not really good in explaining.

I know what you mean. In fact I find the engine sound volume to be a nice indicator of whether I am wasting fuel tongue.gif

Mat79, thanks for another lengthy reply, gonna take me some time to digest it.

The powershift is really a pain in the a$$ to tame compare to the CVT. I really miss the CVT smooth operation.

Many thanks bro mat79 the legendary! Whenever you come to the explain, all the puzzling were cleared! My salute to you!  notworthy.gif

I have no doubt and never complain on the driving comfort and the power that a Preve produced. Just my bad as I did not do enough research when I saw the statements online saying "turbocharged engine provide more fuel efficiencies etc...". Now I can understand more on the term "fuel efficiencies" were to compare between NA engines which produce the same power, but not comparing to the engine with the same displacement.

You are also very correct about your earlier claim saying we could get better and better FC when our mileage hit 10K mark. My mileage is now 11,xxxKM and almost full city driving in Penang, my recent best FC was 10.9L/100km in two consecutive refills!  rclxm9.gif (worst FC was 12.6L/100km)
*
They keyword is "efficiency". When the turbo is boosting you will consume more fuel compared to not boosting, but because combustion is more complete, you will get more power for every cc of fuel injected into the combustion chamber.

Range extenders allow for development of efficient forms of power generation. The transfer of gas --> electricity --> motion is far more efficient than gas --> motion. Plus, as technology advances, who's to say we'll be running on fossil-fuel burning generators? hmm.gif Nuclear anyone? tongue.gif

I'm just saying, range extenders open a whole world of possibilities. Energy efficient generators, alternative generators, efficient motors, alternative power-trains.... can go on & on... smile.gif

bro, what is overdrive?

in ATI graphic card got overdrive i know la, but for car overdrive, i dun understand what it is, pls enlighten me...

Overdrive in a normal AT gearbox is the highest gear, also known as the cruising gear. It is used for high speed cruising that allows the car to cruise at high speed with low RPM, at the expense of acceleration response.

why my dealer proton SC say cannot sendiri bring engine oil, if not will void 5 yrs warranty. I was like WTF? Should i call iCare to complain?
*
Certain SCs allow, such as COSE, but they will make a notation that you brought your own oil. While it wont outright void your warranty, if touchwood something does happen to your engine and you wanna claim, they can point this out and make your claim difficult, maybe accusing you for using fake oil.

So I guess if you wanna bring your own oil, get it from a reliable shop and make sure you have a receipt for it.

Otherwise just stick with the EO offered by the SCs.

Ps: I have called iCare before re this issue, their stance is that they allow, but will not be held responsible for anything that happens to your engine thereafter.

*
Eh so random rclxub.gif

I was obsessed with Fiesta for quite some time dy, did a lot of research and watched a lot of reviews, most of them were positive, mainly on the handling and NVH.

So when the opportunity arise, I went for it lor. Also since I almost always never have rear passengers in my car, the smaller car would be more fun for me than the Preve or Inspira, which I also considered.

Finally, its a conti, nuff said tongue.gif

Im not sad at u guys, just others in other website@thread that keep bashing  recklessly without understanding the actual facts. No wonder other makes enjoying fruitful profit even tax are the same nowadays, overcharge malaysian, coz we just accept it with open heart. It seems contis r giving the fair price here with the new tax structure, while others dont seem to care. Like some said, why fix if aint broken. Why need to reduce price if the sale still the same, enjoying a big profit margin by offering less. People dont care about the tax now the same, people just blamming prtn for the price, no need to do anything. So, less is more then :-),less equip, more on pricing.
*
No need to be sad. No matter what these professors at lowyat university says, I still see more and more Preve on the road. Some people have no choice due to budget, but some choose to buy it because they recognize the value, values that those sushi brands outright refuse to give, the latest being the nissan almera junk.

Say what they will about Proton, but Malaysians are more careful on how they spend their hard earn money now and they have more choices now. The fact that many still pick Preve speak volumes.

QUOTE(diadokmai @ Nov 11 2012, 01:21 AM)
i test drive almera..engine very silent, sitting in the car very silent, seat very soft, especially the leather seat one, door close with confident (TUP!! sound) completely close.

from my point of view..i prefer

the interior

seat - almera (sitt there with confident, soft)
steering - preve except the logo
logo - nissan (current proton logo like non-original logo - macam pelekat mainan budak2, my previous gen 2 feel more original..)
dashboard - preve
HU - Almera - more futuristic, preve HU is VERY Like Old School even my previous myvi extreme also very modern (myvi lakato build in navigation also very friendly to use)

exterior :

logo and design - almera (NISSAN with very very shiny logo), more compact design but still preserve the sedan mode
rim - stock rim preve win (if impuls i dont know la)
side mirror - almera - preve side mirror almost 100% identical with persona/saga flx (they sould design  a bit different la, i like more my previous Gen 2 more macho side mirror)
rear lamp - almera win - my view is preve rear lamp is ugly..they should copy cat 100% audi/ merc rear lamp - i dont care copycat 100% as long as they pretty - no need modify to ugly one
head lamp - preve except the grill bettween these 2 eye i like almera grill more elegent

performance and safety :

engine : preve win kaw kaw since 1.6 with turbocharge
stability : preve for me - feel heavier and nice to cruise in highway
engine sound : almera win kaw kaw - please go self test drive.
safety : ? i didnt confirm about these. haha only go test drive for fun forgot to check about these..but at least the low model got 1 airbag and abs - so maybe preve still win kot
gear : preve win with CVT and protoronic aka tiptronic gear

overall :

for me

so maybe if i still didnt buy preve..almera full spec maybe will be my choice too.

forgot i thing. preve rear compartment bonnet +- 30L more than Almera. (preve win in this aspect). but if u see the bonnet is not noticeably...only me notice a bit different

in my place is hard to find a nissan driver drive car speeding more than my preve since i thought most of them buy it as a family car..they got child and thus the car is for comfort drive..like my brother-in-law, he own a sentra and drive according to road speed meter..since he got many son and daughters..But he compliment me to buy preve as he said preve is the most quality car tht proton ever build. haha i know he just satisfied that i can provide a comfort transport for his sister...so no problem either local or international car..

but in my place so many local car drive like king of the road, especially persona and myvi...haha..make me heated up too..sometimes somewhere i ever showing off the CFE power too...need to check coverage first since already got 2 summone which is i said it very waste of my money..if i put it in my investment so future i will be richie. haha
*
The reason why I called it junk is because they omit a lot of things even on the highest spec. Side mirror no indicator lights, max 2 airbags only, No ESC etc...And do you know you have to pay extra 2.8k for the cap ayam touchscreen HU? Also if you want the leather seat, pay another RM1.8k. It has no stock tinting either.
