Old man possibly afraid Red fans will taunt his team and demoralise them for the whole 90 mins when they meet us in Anfield hence the good gesture. Havent seen him giving a 2 foot about us all the time until now.
It's a goodwill gesture after his fans taunted Liverpool fans during their game (chanting it's never your fault), even though he had expressed for them not to. He just dropped by to show that despite the actions of a few fans, MU are behind the families.
Seriously, I would have loved it. I still think that Torres will excel to his old form if he comes back to Liverpool. In Liverpool, they play the ball to him more often and they form the play around his strength. Suarez could have easily provided so many assists to Torres.
Unfortunately, things are not meant to be and we are now without a prolific striker.
I think I read somewhere that the 'prominent Liverpool player' that requested Comolli to do so did so after a hint of interest from Torres, who at the time was having a *ahem* Tor-rid time at Chelsea. Speculation is that player was Reina.
Yup. Wildly speculated to be Reina due to the Spanish connection but it could also be Gerrard since Torres and Gerrard are really close.
Fernando got to face it. He made a wrong career move just like Mickey (Michael Owen) and now he has to pay a big price for it. Chelsea has destroyed so many big names such as Mutu, Shevchenko, Kezman, etc. Such a silly move.
True, but seems like with Hazard he's slowly coming back to his best. I honestly want to see him at his best again, definitely the most graceful striker I've seen in a long time.
1st bold part is really true if you've seen the way the fans take to him.
2nd bold part, is it? don't think so, considering how many gaffes statements he released since he went south.
P/S: beware of ppl telling us to get over & move on....just for discussing torres.
Get over it and move on
But seriously, you're right. Torres was one of the most complete strikers I've ever seen. I actually wouldn't rate RVP as high as him. Another complete player I feel is Cristiano Ronaldo, although he often loses out in competitions to Messi due to his selfishness I guess.
I really hope Yesil shines against the Young Boys, though I doubt he'll get a call up against MU. We're probably gonna look at Boringni and Suarez again up front. Though I do hope BR will have the presence of mind to deploy GJ as a winger, since the two newcomers might not be adjusted to the PL yet. Is Enrique still injured? Man I miss Finnan, Arbeloa and Riise
Probably perhaps RvP was never played as a main striker spearheading an attack till last season. He has been playing as a winger/supporting striker his entire career. Always thought he is a very good player and would have scored lots of goals even as a supporting striker if not for his injuries.
I miss the Riise in his prime, not the one we sold, maybe it's just me but I can certainly understand why Rafa sold him. What I don't understand is that position has never really been filled since he left. Dossena came and go like the wind. I thought Insua was pretty decent, don't know why we sold him, would've done well as a backup if not a starter.
For good times' sake:

On the left side, we're a bit defensively unbalanced with the likes of Suarez and Johnson, they're good attackers but they're not particularly known for their defensive prowess.
On the right, Kelly gets the job done but just barely. He looks more like a central back than a fullback. His touches are heavy and he can look laborious at times. But thankfully and somewhat surprisingly, Sterling has done an amazing job of tracking back and helping out his fullback. Kelly's limitation would had been a lot more exposed had it not been for Sterling.
In an ideal situation this would not be an issue if we had a good DM to provide the extra cover but the likes of Gerrard, Allen and Jonjo are all makeshift DM who don't look at home playing as DM.
Exactly...which is why I think GJ should be given a chance as a winger instead of a wingback...as for LB and RB...honestly speaking, since Arbeloa, Finnan and Riise left, with the exception of maybe Enrique and maybe Warnock/Insua, I don't think anyone has performed as consistently as those guys.
I wouldn't pay so much attention. All the goals conceded are either down to individual mistakes or due to players trying to adapt to the new system. Things like this can and will be ironed out as we progress.
Last night we conceded 3 goals that could have been easily prevented. 2 of them were down to poor performance by Enrique & Carra. The 3rd was a soft one, imo Coates should have headed the cross out of danger. What? Assaidi not impressive and Downing played well? Are we even watching the same game?
I can't help thinking that the youngsters can perform because they've virtually nothing to lose and they're fighting for first team places. I'm worried that once they make the first team, they'll stop performing after a season or two.
Yes, after reading alexs letter towards us, i will respect you guys tonight. Respect apart im still going to taunt you guys here when we score a couple of goals later ok. No hard feelings losing to united isnt shameful at all it is like a destiny so embrace it from now on.
Before reading that letter you weren't planning to respect the 96?
There is nothing classy about bragging about class distinction.
To a lot of kids who don't know about the deaths of hillsborough and if you choose not even acknowledge the munich disaster, just because it wasn't your time (goggle who help or which club sent to assist the then depleted squad). You have shown how tasteless how some Manu fans are. I sure even the red devil loyalist would see u as an outcast minority.
We respect history. Everyone, every kopnite respects history. It defines a person character.
and I'd like to add on to this. if you claim that an event that happened to a club doesn't affect you, supporting said club is too. for if you can't bring yourself to understand the history of your club or others, wins or losses shouldnt mean anything to you either
A great match from start to finish if you ask me. To take a quote from Gerrard from a long time ago: "We played like lions". Actually I think the quote was we defended like lions, but whatever. No matter what you think about the penalty and red card decisions, we can take heart in this performance. It certainly isn't the best period to have faced MC, Arsenal and MU, but we've gotten these over with. Up next, Reds to maul Norwich
1) Howard Webb 2) Andre Marriner 3) Uriah Renne 4) The cowardish skinny dude who currently holds a high post in ref union (i forgot his name) 5) and now...let's welcome Mark Halsey to the disgraceful list!
I think let's not be harsh. He made mistakes, but we shouldn't brand him an MU fan unless he consistently makes them in favour of United.
That's the last of our early nightmare fixtures right?
If we do not get results soon we are going to WIP ourselves into relegation.
Putting the the manner of the result last night behind us, I'd say we're pretty well setup to tear into our next opposition. Assuming we can get ourselves similarly motivated that is.
