I really wished that they have managed to stick Optimus in the laptop. It probably would have made it the perfect laptop.

Yes, probably have all the NVIDIA power is all good, but I have a V3-471 Acer running an i3-2348M that has just trounced a SLI powered Y500 in one niche aspect - Video encoding.

Quick Sync really is Quick.

It depends. Make sure your cooling fans blow air the right way ie towards the laptop air intake, rather than sucking air from the bottom of the laptop.

Try to register the warranty on-line with local Lenovo follow the link here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_MY/product-se...arrantyReg.page
Pls report back any problem on warranty registration for US set.

Check your laptop thoroughly and see any manufacturing defects, ask for 1 to 1 exchange with the shop if any defects within 1 week before they run out of stock.
*
I don't think you can register a US set without a MY serial there. But I may be wrong.

Guys, i have a question, why US set has better spec than malaysia? and pric3 cheaper
*
Above is a quotation for one of the more popular US Lenovo set dealer here, which is a blatant lie.

1. Some models being sold by Lenovo Malaysia has 2 years warranty, which includes the Y400/Y500 models.

2. The US set spec is cheaper by a combination of exchange rate / special discount / country pricing etc etc.

3. The online warranty check status will default to the manufacturing date first before your purchase date is updated.

For example :-

Your Y500 manufactured on the 5th May 2013. You buy on the 31st May 2013.

Your online warranty will reflect that your warranty starts from 5th May 2013 - Your set's manufacturing date.

If you buy local Lenovo set, what would happen is you or your reseller sends an official copy of the receipt to Lenovo's Asian Registration.

First, they would update the purchase date - e.g. now your warranty when you check would begin on the 31st May 2013.

Second, they would then update the 2 years warranty - e.g. now your warranty will end on 31st May 2015 instead of 31st May 2014.

4. Sure, you can buy US sets / Grey market imports or whatever, but Lenovo has every right to request additional documentation before the decide to warranty your set.

5. Among the documentation they may ask - Your US receipt or your travel documents (e.g. Mr. Lewis bought the set in hometown in Oklahoma and travels to Malaysia for work where the Laptop breaks down). If you don't have that documentation, they have every right not to warranty your set. At that point of time, they can also say, take it up with your reseller.

6. In the end, seriously ask yourself, is saving RM300 worth a RM3000 headache?

For more clarification, below are a sample email of how registration work with Lenovo Asia.

Local stock comes with standard 1 year warranty....but already bundle with Lenovo warranty pack or LenovoCare extended 1 year so become 2 year warranty...this bundle package already do at distributor side...reseller still need to update their product to entitle to get 2 year warranty instead  1 year warranty...
from oversea set with 1 year warranty..just buy lenovoCare or warranty pack to extend ur warranty to 2 year or 3 year...its same thing...
*
What bundling la brader? As long as you have that MY at the serial, straight away you get that extra year.

You still hiding the fact that if you have a US set, trying to claim warranty here in Malaysia can get you into trouble.

Here, straight from Lenovo :-

ASEAN (Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam)

Customers requiring International Warranty Service in any of the ASEAN countries may be asked to provide one of the following in order to obtain IWS warranty repair service; proof of company identification (company letter, email, business card, company badge with photo ID), proof of purchase (purchase receipt, official order, delivery note, sales memo, or invoice), and/or proof of travel (passport with valid Visa to or from country where product was purchased, or other travel documents).

So, if you now just buy carepack for your US set, bring warranty claim suddenly Lenovo ask for your proof of travel. Now what? You will hantar the unit back to US for warranty service?

bro..u think i just sell this unit 1 or 2 days? i already sell this set a few year la bro..izit u know my customer got problem claim warraanty or not? sure u dunno bout that...some of them already buy from me a few time already...:-)
*
Then what is this thread all about? https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2647407/all

You see, I don't care you sell set from US, UK. I don't have any care about your customer. I don't care how many times they buy.

But be honest about the warranty. Be honest about the terms. Be honest about the trouble they may face in claiming the warranty. Boleh?

Just gotten the Y410p and I think the Nvidia optimus technology is enabled as my device manager shows HD4600 graphic too
*
Looking at it, it probably does have Optimus enabled. tongue.gif

Reason I think it has - It seems that I am able to encode videos using Quick Sync. Doing so with my Y500 crashed the program.

Edited :

Yep, confirm got Optimus based on my tests.

if Y410p got Optimus, does it mean it is not SLI-enable? (can't add extra GPU through Ultrabay)??
*
I don't think so. Y400 and Y500 didn't have Optimus because it wasn't wired for Optimus.

Yep. Took the shine right off my Y500. Powerful as it is, having Optimus mostly meant better battery life - and the occasional experimentation with Quick Sync. Had the single card Y500 and it still doesn't have Optimus.

Imagine my surprise when the Y410p had it. Even tested out the latest Quick Sync software and Y410 had no problem handling it.

if Y500, i don't mind coz most of Y500 sold together with extra GPU..
but for Y400, we didn't have extra GPU for GT750M..i never saw it.. <<correct me if i'm wrong~
thus, no SLI for Y400 (GT750M only coz GT650M extra GPU)..

also no Optimus!!! i rely on Optimus if wanna saves more battery  cry.gif

hmm.gif

Would be interesting to see how long the Y410 can last using battery..

Here is my Quick Review of the Y410P

Physically, there is nothing much to distinguish this from the Y400. Same keyboard, with the same 3 stage red backlit. Same 1366x768 screen, and to be honest, nothing spectacular, just your standard run of the mill "HD" screen. Same ultrabay design, in this case with the DVDRW. Same thickness, USB port. In fact, aside from the newer sticker, externally, everything is the same as the Y400.

Inside however is another matter. Intel's newer Haswell chip, in this case the i7-4700MQ, 4 cores, 8 threads, Intel HD4600 that is wired for Optimus, NVIDIA 750M (same with the last new Y400), 8GB RAM and a 1TB hard disk all being run by Windows 8.

Good performance? Yep. Recommended to get this over Y400? Yep. Any problem? Nope. Unless you consider the Y400 problematic, in which case probably you should not buy the Y series in the first place.

Bottom Line : Same Thing - Better Engine.

that one i cannot brain..huge different from Y400 doh.gif
RAM, HDD all can upgrade by us..

how about battery life? wanna compared with Y400 Ivy Bridge..

I would say a bit better - but not by much. Just wifi, surfing, some music got close to about 5 - 5 1/2 hours. With really compromised screen brightness at that. Don't think you can expect much - it is a gaming laptop after all.
