The local official Y500 only come with dual gpus and 170Wpsu spec below.

Other variant of Y500 are imported unit (AP set) from US with different spec and cheaper price. Pls check carefully with the warranty coverage/extention, recon/refurbish or brand new unit.

The warranty service for Y500 imported from US is not cover by local Lenovo according to Lenovo US website.

Now, Y500 become more mobile with 120w adapter & dvdrom to carry around. Just swap in the extra GPU & 170w psu when we need the extra gaming power at home. Thats the beauty of swappable ultrabay. 

Wonder when the ultrabay component for Y500/Y400 will selling here.

That's the overseas price, You'd have to wait for the local GPU card to arrive, might be cheaper

For those of you guys who bought the ODD variant from Lenovo Official Reseller in Lowyat, They'll let you switch your machine with the dual sli graphics gt750m variant only if the machine is in good condition and you top up a few hundred(the remaining price of the dual sli variant) within 1 week of the date of purchase.

PS. I just got off the phone with the reseller, he said he'll extend my return policy for another 1 week just to switch the machine when it comes out....

May i know if the geforce gt 750m sli ultrabay is available in malaysia or not? since i bought the y500 single graphic card and wanted to upgrade it later, if it is available, what's the price?

Actually, that's a standard shut down for this laptop.. I just bought it a few weeks ago, and everytime I shut it down, the lights from the back-lit keyboard remained on for a few moment... but I just closed the laptop as i know that it's already shut down.. just let it be..

Above is a quotation for one of the more popular US Lenovo set dealer here, which is a blatant lie.

1. Some models being sold by Lenovo Malaysia has 2 years warranty, which includes the Y400/Y500 models.

2. The US set spec is cheaper by a combination of exchange rate / special discount / country pricing etc etc.

3. The online warranty check status will default to the manufacturing date first before your purchase date is updated.

For example :-

Your Y500 manufactured on the 5th May 2013. You buy on the 31st May 2013.

Your online warranty will reflect that your warranty starts from 5th May 2013 - Your set's manufacturing date.

If you buy local Lenovo set, what would happen is you or your reseller sends an official copy of the receipt to Lenovo's Asian Registration.

First, they would update the purchase date - e.g. now your warranty when you check would begin on the 31st May 2013.

Second, they would then update the 2 years warranty - e.g. now your warranty will end on 31st May 2015 instead of 31st May 2014.

4. Sure, you can buy US sets / Grey market imports or whatever, but Lenovo has every right to request additional documentation before the decide to warranty your set.

5. Among the documentation they may ask - Your US receipt or your travel documents (e.g. Mr. Lewis bought the set in hometown in Oklahoma and travels to Malaysia for work where the Laptop breaks down). If you don't have that documentation, they have every right not to warranty your set. At that point of time, they can also say, take it up with your reseller.

6. In the end, seriously ask yourself, is saving RM300 worth a RM3000 headache?
