if you can afford it, private. no debate.
if you cannot afford it, then govt.

msian healthcare is a good , both private and govt. govt hospitals are not at all that bad. some of the best minds in medicine are still in govt service. but bear in mind, the long waiting lists.

No doubt government hospitals have good doctors, if we meet the good ones we are lucky. But what if we don't? All the stories we heard about government hospitals....only sad ones are told. How regretful parents feel after something bad happened to their newborn baby, but it's too late!

well then how about paying through your nose for a horrible private doctor or lousy private hospital then? never heard? i have. my patients related their pityful stories to me. only govt hospitals got sad stories? private hospitals do have them but probably not told.

patients only die in govt hospitals? patients don't die in private hospitals right? when they are about to die, they get transferred to govt hospitals or some other place.

this is not directed to you only. nothing personal. i'm sorry if i hurt your feelings.

greatly agreed, if you are lucky enough, you'll get a gem of the hospital.
but no doubt, if you can afford, go for private.

Dr Chuah is the best O&G you can find in Tung Shin hospital!  ( because I have seen the other drs...)  let me share my experience with you!  From the beginning till my delivery...

During my first visit to see him, while waiting outside his room together with his other patients, I waited for sometime.  His patients told me I  will understand later why have to wait so long!  This doctor is definitely worth waiting for!

After seeing him, I totally agree.  Even though I waited for about 1 hr +, it was worth the wait!  I had visited a few O&G and none of them could settle or answer all my problems with much more expensive consultations.  But Dr Chuah managed to settle all my problems and answered all my questions in just ONE VISIT!  He is not a 5 min doctor, he listens to my problems,  check in detail and gentle during checking.  Then he spend time explaining to me what is the problem and how to handle it!
Charges are reasonably cheap for the type of care he provides!  Because he even gave me his mobile number for easy contact.  rclxms.gif

In the middle of my pregnancy, I started to bleed.  I remember it was a Sunday nite, i was so scared...I called Dr Chuah and soon he was in the hospital to see me.  I was admitted for 2 nights for bed rest.  I was very worried but during my stay in the hospital Dr Chuah was very caring and reassuring.  He comes back to hospital every night to check on me which I really appreciate.  Luckily everything was ok! icon_rolleyes.gif

Then i attended his antenatal talk, which he conducts every two months in the hospital.  This I strongly recommend anyone who is pregnant to attend.  Because, it is FREE to attend and there is a lot of information and preparation about pregnancy and delivery process Dr Chuah will teach in his talk.  The most unbelievable thing I heard was Dr Chuah do not do episiotomy, which later i found out it means he do not cut the private part during delivery!!! I was very happy to hear that!  rclxm9.gif  Because that is one of the thing I'm most worried about.  But I find it hard to believe....really can deliver without cutting?? hmm.gif

Then my time to deliver came...I was pushing for so long, I don't even know and later my husband told me it was about an hour!  But Dr Chuah was very patient the whole time, encouraging me.  I was worried he will vacuum my baby but luckily not. And true enough at the end I gave birth to my baby after 1 hour of pushing without cutting my private parts and no tear or injury!!!
I'm really thankful I met Dr Chuah!  notworthy.gif

How much did we spend for delivery? In total 2200 including baby's charges, for the care we received I think it is definitely value for money!  thumbup.gif

I managed to deliver my baby just last week through VBAC thanks to Dr Chuah. Hubby and I are very pleased with him and blessed to have him as my obstetrician. I started seeing him only when I was 30 weeks pregnant as the obstetrician I have been seeing since my first pregnancy is not supportive of my wish to have VBAC. My first baby was delivered via emergency caesarean as attempt for natural birth was unsuccessful.

2 thumbs up for Dr Chuah!!

I have just started my pregnancy about 8 weeks and am looking for a gynae to follow up on my pregnancy...Based on here, Dr. Chuah seems like a very good and caring gynae...how about the other doctors in Tung Shin?

Hi Jadegal,

I have seen all three doctors in that hospital. After seeing Dr Chuah, I decided he is the only gynae that I will see from now on! Try him out yourself, you will know what I mean nod.gif

Hi Purplebug,

Thanks for sharing your experience to everyone of us, appreciate if you can answer my question. rclxms.gif
Normally how much does it cost when seeing Dr Chuah for check-up?
My wife is currently in week 14 and we do regular checkup in KKIA.
From your point of view (or experience), when should I start to bring my wife to see Dr. Chuah for check-up?

Thank you... notworthy.gif

average checkup is about RM165 including the Multi Vitamin.
I found the multi Vitamin sold at Tung Shin is cheaper than others pharmacy.
My wife also having at checkup at KKIA, what we do is doing a testing, suntikan and taking some supplement at KKIA, and bring the test report and supplement to him for his reference . He is no problem for that, and he will ask you to take from there. which is free of charges.
I think you can bring your wife to see him as earlier, no harm to get a consultant from him as I experience from KKIA is not so good.

Hi Candino, jz to share that I'm in a similar situation with u. I will due in mid Oct also, and all those previous months I have been having my check ups at clinic and at Tawakal hospital. Then I decided to change to Dr. Chuah, though it seems very late, at my 33 wks. So I dropped him an email to inquire if it is still possible etc, I received a very quick and friendly reply from him encouraging me to come to him as early as I can. He also shared with me his coming Antenatal Talk on this 28 Sept, and gave me his mobile contacts..

I jz had my 1st visit with him last week, I brought along the check up/record book that I have from my previous doc which has my check up records and test results etc. I had to wait kinda long as it was a Saturday (despite I arrived there the earliest) I think he attended to his patients who have had made appointments first. But yeah, I felt comfortable with him smile.gif Gonna be checking in with him till my due date. The major diff between him and my previous hospital is that he didnt do urine test for me, while my previous hospital always do that. Not sure if it is a significant test to do..(make mental note to check with Dr. Chuah) The check up charges is about the same for both hospital at approx RM 200 (I thought Tung Shin will be cheaper..but prolly cos it is first visit so there are more to check + supplements? shall see again what is the charges like nx visit)..

Highly recommend Dr Chuah Bee Poh from Sunway Medical Velocity..he’s passionate, knowledgeable and less calculative.
He’s also always at the hospital, I was admitted at 8PM++ and he’s there to check on me at 8:30PM and was back again in the morning at 8AM - much dedication.
But the wait time is crazy with or without an appointment.

Yeah he did the same to me during last pregnancy too. Checked up at evening time and asked me to go back next morning 8am and he is already there. BTW may I know roughly how much is the charge each visit? Last time I visited him in Tung Shin so I have no idea about the pricing in sunway medical velocity. And my edd is June next year, so sad that the delivery promo package is not applicable to my case.
