maybe each new iPhone is not really that much improved from the last version, so ppl still keep their old one. I think 4S to 5 not really got big difference except the larger screen and the new broken map apps. And last gen model's system can be upgraded to latest one too.

Unlike android which every new model from previous one bring a lot of new features. So android users will ditch their old model and go for the vastly improved latest models. Like S2 to S3 and Note to Note II, lots of new changes.
