Yeah... the usual way you install a windows program. Double click on the .exe file you downloaded to install.

u have to install pc companion first to install the drivers for the phone...and ur using windows XP..there's a possibility that ur OS does not have the necessary drivers...

So the latest ROM has been out 4 sometime, i believe it's 9.2.xxx {mine stock is 9.1.xxx).....has most of the issues been sorted out by Sony?
I still hesitant to upgrade
