Quick question, Lexar or Sandisk for CF? And anyone with experiences with both of them?

I'm looking at Lexar 400x vs the Sandisk Extreme, both rated at 60MB/s.
*
using both er.. so far dont see much differences. no failed / corrupted images yet (touch wood)

At the moment I'm a Sandisk owner and I have confidence in these cards.

Lexar 400x 32GB x2 -> USD148.51
Sandisk Extreme 32GB x2 --> USD197

I can save almost USD50 if I were to go for the Lexar instead of the Sandisk now. That's roughly RM150!
Ahh good to hear that biggrin.gif Which Lexar and which Sandisk model?
*
the lexar 400x 16GB and Sandisk Extreme 60x 16GB.. where u get your pricing so cheap one.. lol we got ours like... beginning of the year... so expensive shocking.gif

I'm getting it from http://www.bhphotovideo.com/. How much did you paid for yours? Btw the prices I quoted earlier is in US dollars and they are for 32GB per card. 32GB x2 for USD148.51
we paid too much for it... you deal is more of a steal! mad.gif oh well. But so far its been pretty reliable. Using quite happily on both Nikon n Canon bodies. thumbup.gif

do they ship to msia? wats the shipping costs?

Yeah, I have a Spyder Lenscal. I'll read it when I'm back... I glanced through, its actually converting the 36MP NEF to smaller DNG files.
I'm attending this! Since I'm not going Penang for M2 sad.gif
You bought from Malaysia? If Malaysia then it is known to be pricey here, I paid RM330 for my first Sandisk Extreme 60MB/s 16GB end of 2010. My second Sandisk Extreme 16G cost me about half from B&H. They do ship to Malaysia, you have a few options for it... some last time I bulk before with friends I think is USD50 :S.
*
yea. bought in msia kena potong kaokao.. my 'friend' selling accessories told him i need.. then i didnt really check price also jst assume is best price.. mana tau is best price for him ! my own fault lo, now everything mst check price ! wat more I get EAST MALAYSIA pricing sad.gif tats why asking my friend go KL pick up the D600 instead of buying here . . ..

does a remote cord work with the yongnuo? how much would a remote cord cost?
*
http://www.phottix.com/en/flash-accessorie...emote-cord.html

remote flash cord would work with any flash unit. not sure wats the price now but I got mine I think under 50RM. One of my fav tools. For me its enough of a distance to make a difference. you got to experiment if you like it or not. I use it in product photography as well. CLS is good but I dont like killing the lifespan of the built in flash on my d80 n d300.

Problem with optical trigger is, if your in lets say a actual wedding scenario, you will also have a lot of other ppl w/ camera. and your optical trigger would be triggered by flash, ANY flash from compact to even handphones w/ xenon flash bulbs. So your most likely to deplete your batt juice before u get to use it yourself hahaha. Unless you tell everyone to not take photo it kinda might work.

And another nice modifier is the Demb diffuser pro. Gives off pretty sweet light. Even with flash mounted on hot shoe. U might want to look into that as well.

If you want to pop your flash far far away then maybe can investigate in remote triggers. xD thumbup.gif plant a few light stands all around the main area with triggers and flashes and your good to go! thumbup.gif

holy crap! shakehead.gif  you're right about other people's camera setting off my flash hahaha. that would suck tongue.gif thanks for the heads up. now i realise optical trigger is a very bad idea.

remote triggers errrrrr if i can afford that, i wouldn't have to ask here LOL.

thanks for the remote cord recommendation. i'll consider it. i've been reading Tangent's blog on on-camera flash, he's getting really good results. i'll get an SB700 first and practice2. if no need off-camera flash then good la, one free hand tongue.gif

nothing wrong with on shoe flash, jst try to bounce to larger white source (such as walls) to 'amplify' the light. But bear in mind if its a chinese wedding u will be bouncing into a lot of red! LOL

so I was playing around with my new old manual lens on a the d600... I found something interesting. The focus indicator, usually a lot on the lower left corner of the viewfinder now actually indicates how close u are to focus. to the left and right of the dot... indicates further or closer u need to go to get to focus lol. and that the dual SD even both class 10 can slow down to a crawl if you load the smallest thumbnails

I thought only D800 having the slow loading issue with small thumbnail. Mine is using Sandisk Extreme CF 60MB/s.
*
we were also using Extreme Pro SDHC UHS something something I think 40mb/s. if single card its relatively fast. but when there were two cards in the body it jst slows to a crawl. Tried single card in diff slots, different combo, seems tat it only happens when both cards were inserted. Oh and one card was filled the other was half.

QUOTE(LegendLee @ Oct 24 2012, 08:54 PM)
Hey Nikonians.
Just wanna ask, which camera setup is the best for taking events (Think dimly lit halls) ?
I'm used to using a 5D2 + 70-200 + fast 50 for events.
But soon I'll be helping my company take their events and they don't like canon.
They do however have lots of Nikon camera for me to borrow.
So which models should I borrow ? Models available are all except the D4, D3s and D800 plus all lens below RM 4k.
Must be pretty good + user friendly to a canon user like me lol.

It'll also be really helpful if any Nikon Sifu can state any major difference in user interface between the 2 brands lol.
*
Im not a sifu but I do use both system extensively for my work (1ds, 5dmk2, 7d, 50d etcetc). As long as you know your photography it does not matter the brand of the camera as the theory remains the same, ISO+aperture+shutter madness. All you need to know is where the buttons are. U'd also find that metering bar, dials, zoom and mount are opposite way of Canons. thumbup.gif

Oh and I find that the menu system for 5dmk2 is quite complicated, you got tabs and tabs and tabs which drops down to sub sub sub menus rclxub.gif. Now the 5dmk3 is way better, feels more like a Nikon menu system hehehe

best of luck

Thanks !
It's back to manuals and getting used to a new system again lol, kinda feel nostalgic.
I hear for Nikon flashes the exposure compensation is also a little different from Canon, where decreasing the general exposure compensation on the camera will also decrease the flash power. Is that true ? If it is, for which models ?

5D2 menu can be complicated la, but even something complicated can be second nature after using for a long time lol.
*
hmm.gif I thought all models will do that? So far all the Nikon models I have used d80 onwards can

yea. its about perseverance and learning the new layout. Some ppl jst give up after 2 mins with another system and complain its useless. I was pretty frustrated when I was handed the 5dmk2 .. totally lost but I would not be beat by a camera, so got to learn it.

QUOTE(celciuz @ Oct 24 2012, 09:42 PM)
Which means only happened when dual card is used? Hmm... maybe I should just leave my SD slot blank and use the CF only.
*
Seems to be, we were using same spec'ed cards. The slowdown only when reviewing the mini thumbnails. Does not seem to affect performance, well non which I noticed anyways. I guess its fine as long as we dont hit the '-' button too much xD

First time using my D800 I kept accidentally pressing the '-' button because that position was + instead for D700  sweat.gif , so my D800 kept jam LOL!
*
wah.. tat means it happens on the d800 as well.. hmm.gif maybe nikon engineers forgot to upgrade this file system...

QUOTE(LegendLee @ Oct 24 2012, 10:34 PM)
I was actually hoping it will not haha. Or there is a way to counteract that.
I'm used to the canon system where decreasing your general exposure would mean a higher flash power to compensate.
Not to say which brand is better, but I'm more used to Canon exposure system.

I did play around with my company's D7000 last month, basic controls like ISO, aperture and SS is pretty much ok. But when it comes to setting custom white balance based on a photo, I get lost lol.
Well, this will take a while to fully get used to haha
